    Anal gland fluid smeared

I took my dog Penelope in for a simple anal gland expression and nail trim. She's already a nervous dog, hence why I bring her to the vet vs groomers. Unfortunately, our experience here made things far worse. Before even taking Penelope back, the technician (Tia) roughly pulled her by the leash to weigh her, and immediately told me she would need sedatives just to trim her nails and express her glands due to her anxiety-before even attempting. Penelope is 6 and in her 6 years- I have NEVER been told this. As mentioned, I bring her to the vet BECAUSE she is anxious and I need it done efficiently and quickly. What was especially frustrating was the amount of time spent going back and forth about whether Penelope could be treated -- time that could've been spent actually helping her. When she was finally returned to me, she had anal gland fluid smeared all over her backside and down her legs. It even got on my clothes when I picked her up -- which was both unsanitary and unacceptable. The annual membership, is a complete scam based on the quality of care received. If you care about your animal, don't bring them here.

This is going to be a super long review! I stumbled upon Dr.Treat on Instagram and I'm so so glad I did. If you're on the fence about signing up, DO IT! Yes, $250 up front is steep but it's so worth it. An average vet fee is in 2022 is typically over $75 per visit. This pays for itself in just a few visits! They also have 24/7 telehealth. Just knowing that if anything were to happen to my dog at any time & Dr.Treat will be there to help gives me a really great peace of mind. When they say personalized pet care, they mean it! All members also get a free genetic test upon signing up. They also give members the cutest welcome box. It included a really fancy coffee mug and a cute dog toy :) Now on to the actual visit! Their office is super modern and really built with customers & their pets in mind. The space is clean and comfortable! It reminded me of a fancy tech office! When we entered, our dog was immediately given a bandana with a calming lavender spray on it. They also diffuse this scent throughout their whole clinic! The receptionist was so friendly and chatted with us about their future plans for Dr.Treat. The vet tech we met with did a great job at asking us questions, prepping the vet, and taking our dog's heartbeat, weight, etc. A small detail I really appreciated was that the dog scale was flush to the floor and wasn't something dogs had to step on. We met with Dr.Sanchez and she was so patient and kind. Our dog is pretty timid when it comes to the vet so I really appreciated how Dr.Sanchez got down to her level and was so warm and friendly. They explained what procedures they were going to do and why they were going to do them extremely clearly to me. The visit felt super personalized and we did not feel rushed or pressured into anything at all. A few days later I received a call from Dr.Sanchez letting me know the results of my dog's blood draw. She explained it in a way that anyone could understand! I have no biology or veterinary term knowledge at all and she took the time to explain every single result to me. She let me know what next steps I could take but not once did I feel pressured into agreeing. The app is also so easy to use! I personally dislike having to call to make appointments so the fact that I can simply log on to my app and schedule an appointment genuinely makes the world of a difference. :)

The vets and vet techs here are so kind and helpful! I'm quite a hypochondriac on behalf of my cat and we seem to never get thorough, compassionate care at any vet we've visited - until Dr. Treat! My cats first visit with Dr. Alfaro was great. She took plenty of time to talk to me about his medical history and any concerns I have and set up some health goals for him. We're also in and out of the office without ever having to wait. Love Dr. Treat!

The team squeezed me in for a last minute appointment before traveling. Thank you Kirsten and Dr. Lee!!

Dr. Treat is awesome!! I was in a bind this week watching a friend's dog and needed to get in to see a vet ASAP. I called an hour before they closed and they were able to get me in the next morning. The team is super professional yet warm. I was actually surprised by how responsive and helpful everyone was especially given my time-sensitive request and being a new patient. Their model is tech-forward and personalized (like a One Medical for dogs!) which made for a seamless, no-stress visit. Highly recommend if you're looking for a new vet!

This is the fancy lobby where we wait for our pet to return! your pet is in great, compassionate hands

After a sleepless night, we called SFAMC at 6:30 am and decided to take him in for emergency care. Melissa who answered the phone and worked at the front desk was an angel. She was most friendly, compassionate, understanding and helpful throughout our visit, A tech took Ziggy him, took his vitals and told us they were normal. And we could either wait 3 to 4 hours to be seen by an ER doctor or made an urgent care appointment for the following day which we decided to do. We took Ziggy home and he started to drink and eat again so we thought the crisis was over and called SFAMC a few hours later to cancel the urgent care appointment scheduled for the following day. In the meantime, we have started to give Ziggy CatLax as we suspected that he might have hairball that's causing his vomits. Murphy's law, Ziggy started to vomit again after midnight a couple of times. So we called SFAMC again 6:30 am and was told best to call the next morning to try to secure another Urgent care appointment for Monday. Over the weekend, Ziggy started to vomit less and eating and drinking more. By Monday morning when we saw Dr. Richard Chu, Ziggy was almost back to normal. Nonetheless, we wanted to make sure there was no other problem rather than hairball that caused him to vomit. We have seen many doctors at SFAMC over the years and not Dr. Chu. So we were a bit worried. But it turned out Dr. Chu was the most caring, patient, compassionate, thorough and thoughtful doctor we have ever met there. Dr. Chu took the time to listen to our concerns, review Ziggy's patient history, recommend a care plan and gave us cost estimates on various treatments options. At the end , we decided to have Ziggy's blood drawn for senior panel analysis, his blood pressure measured, and gave him fluid for dehydration. We decided also to table abdominal ultrasound and echocardiogram after reviewing the blood test results. Dr. Chu called after 6:20 pm the same day to let us know that the majority of the blood test results had come back normal and to check on Ziggy. Dr. Chu also emailed us the day after, late in the afternoon and on his day off, to check on Ziggy again and also to let us know that the cardio pet pro BNP test results just came back it was slightly higher than last year and not the cause for Ziggy's gastrointestinal issues. WOW! Talking about going above and beyond! We were moved and speechless. It has been two days since we took Ziggy to see Dr. Chu and Ziggy is doing great now! Eating, drinks, sleeping well and no more vomiting. Thank goodness! As pet parents, there is nothing worse than seeing your little one suffers and feeling helpless and out of sorts. THANK YOU !!! Dr. Chu, Mellisa, and SFAMC.

The estimate matched what we received from another vet but what set SF Vet Hospital apart was the care we received from Dr gill and our vet assistants, Jamie and Joy. There were a lot of emotions as we navigated the cost of 11 extractions and surgery on an 11 year old dog. Dr Gill and his team remained patient with us as we asked questions and discussed all of our options. Jamie talked us through the estimate and gave us a thorough explanation of everything they would be doing. She did not apply pressure and helped us navigate the procedure and related costs with care. We also really appreciated the care we received after the surgery as Dr Gill took us through why he had to remove each tooth and what to expect in recovery. Right after surgery Dr Gill told us our dog would be a different, happier dog in 2 weeks and we didn't think it was possible as he was already an outgoing happy dog. Now I can confidently say this was the most calculated, predatory experience involving any form of medical care I have ever encountered. This is saying a lot considering the state of our country's healthcare system. I brought my pet in for a rabies shot and routine travel evaluation. This was not some life saving procedure involving unexpected complications. There should be a fixed cost. I was given the run around each of the four times I asked how much the visit would total. I could not get a straight answer. Please recognize this as a sign that you will be taken advantage of. When I arrived at the vet, the woman working the front desk confirmed why I was visiting and proceeded to give me a bill which I had to pay before the actual visit began. It wasn't outrageous and I actually commented that I was pleased that the total was reasonable and immediately paid it. There was absolutely no mention that this was the first of three bills, each of which would get increasingly larger. The next bill was more than $400 and listed a number of optional procedures and unexpected charges like "biohazard waste disposal". Any reasonable person would assume that when they paid for the vaccination at the front desk, it would have included everything associated with that procedure. Remember, there was never any mention of a secondary bill, never mind a third. Following our brief visit, the doctor told me I needed a follow up. When I asked if it was included in the 2nd invoice he replied that he doesn't handle billing and sent his assistant in with a third estimate that was more than $900! I was absolutely floored by these unexpected charges and immediately understood why they won't tell you the total cost before visiting. This is essentially a bait and switch cleverly set up in stages. The bill went from ok, to unexpectedly larger, to absolute extortion. If they had given it to me in a single total like I requested, they are well aware I would have walked out. Remember, this was a routine visit for a vaccine and evaluation, not for trauma or life saving care. SF Vet Hospital will use the love you have for your animal to extract as much money as they can. This is a well designed, shameless operation that has taken the tactics of traditional hospitals and pushed them to the next level. I've lived in San Francisco for more than 20 years and I expect to pay a premium for almost every service but trust me when I say, keep searching. SF Vet will leave you feeling defeated and exploited.
