We walked to this place early in the morning as it opens at 7am. Unfortunately the indoor markets are not open on a Monday but that was not a big deal. The outdoor markets are the biggest of its kind in Europe and I was in heaven. So many fruits and vegetables I had never seen before and so cheap :-) a kilo of grapes and 10 plums cost €1.80 and it tasted amazing. There was fresh herbs, pallet loads of tomatoes and tons of fresh fruit every which way you looked. There are sections with clothes, shoes, household items and all sorts of nick nacks. You could spend a lot of money here buying things you will never use. The indoor markets have more stalls for meat, fish and other food items. The question you end up asking is "is there anything you cannot find here ?" And the likelihood is "No" :-)) I could spend days here talking to the shop owners and discovering how to use these newly found ingredients and learning some interesting things. As well, tables and counters for sit down eating. The menu includes a number of different options across the Italian dining spectrum but they will also, for example, cut a piece of beef and cook it to order for a small charge. We saw one table of what looked like a work meetup all getting custom steaks. We started off with a plate of the Farinata (a chickpea flour bread) to share and a bottle of red wine, then I had the Spaghetti Alla Colatura di Alici (anchovies, garlic, and more). It was super delicious but I had serious regrets after seeing the next table with the grilled squid that looked beyond amazing. I had the tortellini, which was just okay and only slightly warm. The waiter was friendly. This is the place that my friend, an expat, goes to as his regular "go to". It's a bit more upscale looking than the other places in the area but that's not saying as much as it would if we were in the states, it looks may be lie the quality and taste of things. They make all their own baked stuff, seriously and while I'm not a flaky dough kind of guy it's good. They really shine though on their cappuccinos and for me their hot chocolate. As I'm writing in English, for Americans at least, keep in mind that Italian hot chocolate is nothing like our chocolate except for the fact that 1) it is dark and 2) it is somehow made from chocolate. All bets are off after that as I just have to say it is one of the most delicious things I've ever tasted that it's made of chocolate! Italian hot chocolate is more like a quasi chocolate pudding but with the flavor of a hot coco. As I happen to really like chocolate, especially the darker varieties, this is to put it mildly, heaven. The surface congeals and you need to stir it to break through to the more liquidy part underneath - well, well worth it. I am currently going through Torino's coffee shops, to taste their hot chocolate while I can.

This is a local place (most of the old timers were having coffee and eating slices of cake). Another popular bakery item here are the Cannoli to Veneziane (brioche filled with custard) and tasty looking apple turnovers. I was only here for the espresso, so I didn't let the treats tempt me away from my mission. I ordered, plunked down my euro with some change as a tip, downed my espresso and left. Easy, fast, and tasty. A great place if you need a little Italian pick-me-up.
