We happened upon this place while wandering through Torino. It had a busy outside seating area, and multiple floors of tables inside. We thought we'd give it a try. It is after all Eataly which is known for it's food, right?
After a bit of shuffling, we were seated outside. The menus are only in Italian. One for food offerings, the other for beverages and only one set per table so you have to share. Read fast people.
A waitress came over, took our order and then apologized that we must pay first. Hmmm, that's odd and doesn't give a warm fuzzy feeling. What if I want to add to my tab later? It certainly gives the staff a break from having to 'check in' to be sure everything is fine.
We ordered lasagna, carbonara, wine, and water. A small bag of bread was put on the table while we waited. The food came out very quickly. A little too quickly but it was only pasta right? The wine and water came out a little later.
As for the lasagna, I can only say: don't. Just don't. It looked fine, but the consistency was mush. The pasta had no texture, body. The sauce and cheese melded together into a sort of thin gruel. If you have trouble with your teeth, or chewing in general, I can heartily recommend this dish. The piece was huge! I will give them that. It would easily have fed me for two days, maybe three. But after just a few bites, I couldn't make myself eat any more.
My dining partner ordered the carbonara. She wanted the pasta dish with asparagus, but was told this dish was 'done', sold out. She was disappointed and ordered the carbonara as an alternate. While we waited for our dishes, another party was seated next to us; an Italian couple, and she ordered the pasta with asparagus, and was served the pasta with asparagus. Wait, what? Yup. Not sure what happened in the 4 minutes between our ordering and them being seated.
Anyhow, back to the carbonara, it also did not 'pass muster' and both dishes were returned mostly uneaten. Which did not seem to phase the staff at all. They simply came by after a while and cleared the still full plates. So I guess this happens often? And speaking of the staff, no staff member made a visit to our table, not once, to be sure everything was fine. They were always pleasant when we did see them: being seated, taking our order and money, picking up the plates, giving directions to the bathroom. This is just a very low maintenance type restaurant. It was packed, inside and out, so there must be something to it. Not sure how it happened that we got such inedible food when other's seemed to be enjoying their meals.
Oh, and if you are looking for the toilette, it is located on level -1, at the bottom of the staircase.
Our bill came to just over €30. read more
