I am an administrative professional who have used many recruiting firms for many years in finding…read moreemployment. After my recent experience with Volt Services (Santa Clara/Newark office) I will NEVER use them again, nor refer others to them. - The recruiter I was connected with seemed quite wonderful in the beginning and placed me on a position that she said was a temp-to-hire for a 3 year project. I was glad to be working after 2 years unemployment. Once on the job, however, I found the atmosphere was not what I had imagined: I was isolated in an 8x10 box with no co-workers except a Project Manager & Engineer. They didn't interact with me except to give me commands. I contacted my recruiter to tell her I didn't think I was a good fit and asked if she could please look for another position for me. She gave me what would be her pad-answer for the next 7 months..."Just do your best." So, I plugged away and did the job well. In fact, on my 3 month review, my boss who gave me a raving review informed me that their company never hires on admins permanently, and that this job would ONLY be a 3 year contract...meaning no PTO, no vacation, no benefits! I contacted my recruiter again and informed her. She said she had no other positions to put me into, so to..."just do my best." During this time, I was given tasks to do & projects to complete which involved interacting with other departments. When doing so, other departments were upset at my requests (which were part of my job), so my boss blamed me and said I was "pissing people off." He therefore told me I could not email and had to send everything thru him. He kept putting limitations on what I could & couldn't do within the scope of my work, changed my hours and then started verbally abusing me! - I contacted my recruiter who once again said, "Do your best." OMG...are you kidding??? - It wasn't my BEST that was the problem. After doing research, I found out that there had been 4 other people in this same position...ALL thru Volt Santa Clara/Newark, who all left because of the situation in that office. When I informed my recruiter that I had contacted a prior admin and she told me about the problems she had w/the company, my recruiter (& the area manager) were angry at me for contacting her! (I was trying to find out how to make things work since I had nowhere else to go, and Volt was non-supportive to say the least.) I finally had to go all the way up to their corporate-office in L.A. to talk to someone about a possible verbal-harassment charge I was considering against my boss. My recruiter & area manager did not support me or help me move to a different position. They kept siding with the employer and told me I had to be different! I only stayed until the company finally decided to end my assignment (the day before Thanksgiving)! When the recruiting manager walked me out, I told her that being as how they had put 5 people into this role within the period of 2 years, they may want to reconsider before putting someone out there again, and do exit interviews if they see things like this coming up on other assignments. She informed me that the company decided to not hire any more temps for this assignment and were placing an admin to that office from within. In short, I feel Volt Services does not support the candidate, when push comes to shove. The recruiter was in my opinion was quite unprofessional (actually in several ways, even from the beginning of my 8 month assignment) and seemingly unqualified to handle the types of developments and issues that transpired from working for a volatile boss. To me it was clear that Volt cares more for the wellbeing of the client & treated candidates (such as myself & quite possibly my 4 predecessors) as though we were dispensable. I have worked for Volt in the past, and never had anything like this transpire. I will never work for them again. There are many other agencies that offer employment services, so all this being said, please do yourself a favor & stand clear of Volt. Some recruiters & managers may be OK, but you never know what you're going to get until it's possibly too late.
