I lived more than 2 1/2 hours away, interviewed him over the phone, checked his references, sent him pictures of the project concept, and then he went to meet with my parents. They were, to say the least, reluctant recipients of the remodel. Jerry had to navigate between often divergent demands of two daughters (my sister and I) and the inhabitants of the house who were pretty sure they didn't need anything new. He did a fabulous job! We could not be happier with how he navigated a challenging situation and produced a terrific end result. The bathroom meets all their needs, stayed within his proposed budget despite a myriad of issues arising from old pipes. He was great, and I highly recommend him. To find an honest person who shows up, does what they said they would do, and doesn't try to nickle and dime you, is a true treasure.

After leaving a final message in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, threatening a negative online presence, someone *finally* called us back-- but they were too late. We went with K. FARMER PLUMBING & SERVICE in Hillsville, Virginia. Lesson to be learned by Ramey: "Take care of your customers and they'll take care of you." Also, don't assume that, because your customers are 70+ years old that they don't know about Yelp, Angie's List, and the like... Because their kids and grandkids do!

Do not use this company! After interviewing three excavation…read moreservices, I hired Justin to grade my driveway and to excavate for a pond and dam. He offered to do the job for what I would consider a low price. The driveway was graded appropriately- though he left a mess of heaped up dirt and half bulldozed trees at the edge of the drive for me to clean up. The real problem was the pond. He built it about half the size that I requested. He gouged out areas that the water was never going to fill and I had to pay someone else to smooth it over so I could plant grass there. He did not include a spillway next to the dam. And, after 4 weeks, the dam started leaking and the water level has been dropping ever since. All communication goes through Justin's wife, Yvette. It is very difficult to communicate anything to Justin through her. When they refuse to fix these structural problems, I asked another Excavation service to take a look and they confirmed my observations. When Yvette finally answered my message, she told me J and D excavation was no longer responsible since I had involved another contractor. (?!) Then she accused me of being unprofessional and irrational. At one point, always even blamed for choosing them because they quoted me the lowest price! I will end up spending twice what they charged me to fix the mess they created.

Virginia Weatherization hired these folks to do bathroom fan installations. I already had fans but…read morethe Weatherization wanted vented outdoor fans. They stood on my toilet seat and broke it. Marked up my ceiling trying to get old fan out and messy. I called Weatherization and said these issues need to be fixed. Shupe's came back out and asked me if I had paint to touch up the ceiling they had marked up. I did not. They dipped their finger in some old paint they had and applied. Looked awful. I had to go over Rooftop Weatherization as they did nothing and found the right person to get this taken care of. Also they cut out holes on my roof for vent pipes and threw the cut out shingles on my lawn. After the right person made it be taken care of , it was done. Also took less then a half hour. I had even fed these guys when they were here. Never again!
