Had a lot of fun ice skating. They even had a bathroom downstairs by the parking. I love how it's in the middle of all these beautiful tall buildings. read more

**For the Ice Skating** PROS: * Having an open air rink in the middle of LA is pretty cool * Nicely decorated with lights, great photo opportunities abound! CONS: * Rink is really small * High volume of people makes it hard to do anything besides moving slowly with the crowd * Runs on a schedule, so you might have to wait more if a time slot is sold out. * Parking is hard to find (unless you want to park in their expensive structure) $8 to skate and $2 to rent skates for an hour is not a bad price. However, there are too many inconveniences for me to want to come again. read more

Wow my first time here and I was impressed with all the square has to offer except their 16.00 parking. We chose to walk a few blocks and pay 8 dollars instead, and a couple more blocks down was 5. It's a nice size area, you can enter on any side, they have security even though your downtown so your bound to see an unmentionable or two. Some of the amenities of the square are farmers market, food truck Friday's or Tuesday's not sure, free yoga and Zumba classes, chess game area, kids area, pet area, as well as hosting many events and activities throughout the year. And if you got the money you can book your own private event here. It's in the middle of downtown so it is pretty much located around many eateries in walking distance and public transportation, check it out. read more

I'd have never thought of reviewing this park if it wasn't for Shannon V.'s review... It's centrally located - has plenty of parking below (rates can be high depending on when you go - but weekends you can get $6.60 all day). And the bathrooms which are one level under ground are C L E A N! I'm such a little bathroom snob - and i hate public restrooms - but this one is acceptable in my book. I used to cross over to the Biltmore just to use their loo, but one day i just couldn't wait - and i tried the P.S. restroom - and i was pleasantly surprised. Most of the L.A. Conservancy walking tours meet here at Pershing Square, and as a docent - I'm there all the time... there's almost always something going on... today for instance was International Pillow Fight Day (who knew there was such a thing?) and from all the feathers all around - looks like there was a crazy turnout! Tons of buses come by, and there is a Metro station as well - so if you're not driving, it's pretty easy to get to via public transport. And if you want to learn about the history of it - and it's evolution from a green tree lined garden to a mostly concrete covered space - take the conservancy's Historic Core tour... ;) read more

The Skinny: This use to be to Los Angeles what Central Park is to New York. Pershing Square use to be a grand park full of native plants, trees and fountains. Thousands converge for civic events and concerts. Now, it's more like a concrete slab for homeless and skateboarders. The Fat: This park was bulldozed over to make way for underground parking. They made a park on top but it was no longer the 1920s styled Art Decor park. No more stone monuments and greenery. Wait, they did re install a grassy section of the park, but like some reviewers mentioned, this place stinks. They have a pet area but I think the mixture of the pet doodoo and homeless piss turns this park into a dump. It smells and is green enough to be a picnic-styled park. This is more like a city square. Cross and the street to the Millennium Biltmore Hotel and just look at the ornate ceiling designs and walls instead. TIP 1: Summer Concerts are awesome. They usually clean up the place so it's not bad at all when there are events. TIP 2: There's a skating rink throughout the winter season. TIP 3: Don't come here unless there's an event..not much to see here. read more

Been here a few times since this is the meeting point for a few L.A. Conservancy Tours, and I always wished there was more greenery instead of concrete. Been here also during the holiday season to check out the ice rink, but the rink was way too small for the huge crowd of skaters. Any plans in the future to add more greenery to this L.A. landmark? read more

I have been to the Friday Night Movies and Saturday Night Concerts at Pershing Square. I recommend the events. It is a great place to spend an evening of fun with friends. If you plan on sitting on the grass I recommend bringing a chair or an old blanket to lay on. It gets chilly after a while so dress appropriately. The security is visible, so it is a safe place to bring "family." There are plenty of places to eat nearby. No smoking or drinking in the park. The park is "pet friendly." I recommend taking the red-line subway to the park. All in All it is a great place to sit and watch a movie on the big screen and to see a great band. read more

Went here over the weekend because I had a ton of time to waste, it was 8AM, and I was already in downtown with my dog. For a park in downtown it's pretty good, but in comparison to parks in WLA and SM It's just OK, but not good enough to make a special trip out here. I can see though if you lived in downtown that Pershing Square is a welcomed addition. You can bring your dog with you (leashed) and there is a nice grassy area they can romp around in. The park is linked to public transportation so it seems a lot of people come here to just hang out before their scheduled departure. There were a good assortment of people here already at 8AM. There are a couple of tables and lots of other seating since people wait there in transit. We stayed about half an hour and then that was enough. Location is a short jaunt over to Pussy and Pooch dog store so it's a good activity to do if you're in downtown. Do not take your dog by the shaded forest canopy area (sorry I can't describe it better) on the east side of the park because it's really dusty and you'll have to beat yourself off after walking through there. It's really for local residents as metered parking is scarce and only an hour. They do have a lot entrance on the west side and of course you have to pay. Oh and funny story, I parked at a meter and as soon as I got out of the car, a woman (dressed better than me I must say) asked if I would get her a sandwich from the subway across the street. Before I could say no, she added, "oh and a coke!". read more

Zero stars for their summer concert series. Overzealous security and no tickets. Place is dirty and smells. Bought one ticket as a mistake now I must go alone. No thanks. Just scrap this venue for good and go to regular shows. Nothing is for free. That's why Santa Monica got rid of their concert series as well. Both places suck and would use these venues as an opportunity to generate revenue. No more. Will go to other more friendly cities to spend money and meet people. BTW what kind of public park has fencing all around it. Concerts are free so why can't people look on from a distance. read more

The concert series in the Summer has ruined the square. It's supposed to be a public park that especially benefits those who live and work in the community - not a private concert venue. The fences they put up make the park look like a construction zone and it creates great hiding spaces from the guards for drug use, peeing and pooping (and I don't mean the dogs). It was bad enough before but now with the fences, it's far worse. The square too much caters to bringing people in from other outlying areas and treats the residents as second class. Dog walking for example is something that helped settle downtown, putting people with pets out on the street, eyes and ears to help create a safer neighborhood. The square has made great efforts to push the dogs into what they call a "pet care area." Why not create a real dog park area? Running water? Why not? Expand the area? Why not? Enclose the area? Why not? I hear too much excuses why they can't and not enough ideas about how they can. They've made grand efforts with fences and police tape to keep out the homeless while keeping everyone else roped out as well. Chess tables? Great idea until they took the chairs away when they realized homeless people play chess too! Then they started putting police tape around that area too. Someone forgot that this is a public space for year round enjoyment for all and should be open to all. read more

On the couple of instances I passed through this courtyard, I haven't noticed anything too untoward. There is an animal area with dirt covered in a layer of sawdust for pets to relieve themselves {better there than on the street}, a couple of entrances located on either side of the square leading down into the subterranean garage, as well as a couple of elevators. I personally do not acknowledge this location as a "park" per se, for it is after all, mostly comprised of cement, a few overly-trimmed trees, bushes, and small patches of shaved grass, with various 'artistic' structures, murals and statues, notably a nice simulacrum of Beethoven. Other than that, nothing too spectacular, and the derelicts keep to themselves. read more

This park is THE UGLIEST PARK IN THE GALAXY! Yes, you read it right. This park is absolutely uninviting. It's so uninviting that the owners of the Biltmore Hotel moved their front door from the Olive St side to the Grand Ave side because even THEY knew how ugly and uninviting this park is. The people in San Francisco got it right with their Union Square. Sometimes you have to keep these particular parks in a more traditional setting. Whereas Pershing Square has these weird yellow and purple walls that cover the outside of the park so you can't really see the inside of the park when driving or walking on the other side of the street. What were the park designers thinking? Were they high on something while watching a Laker's game? If anyone from the County Parks and Recreational department is reading this PLEASE redesign and rebuild this park similar to Union Square in San Francisco. I'm begging you: "If you RE-build it, people will come." read more

While efforts have been made to clean this park up, the whole place is one big bunch of a mess. You have a lot of homeless folks wandering about as if it wasn't anything special. I guess you can't really fault that, it is downtown L.A. after all. But still, the place is a bit like a nice piece of steak served completely raw on a paper plate. The idea is great in theory, but the execution just leaves you wondering if they just took it out of the broiler way before its time. It's also looking less enjoyable once you have the new Grand Central Park just a little over. On a side note, this park did host many flash mob style events like the annual pillow fight - which in itself was a great event, though it is no thanks to the location. Just never felt like it was much more than a failed project. Just walk the extra few blocks and go to the Grand Central Park. read more

There is always going to sides to how you may view things, and this is one of those places, there is plenty of parking space (at least when i arrived before the sun went down, not sure how it might be during the day). The price is decent, not bad for the central location in downtown Los Angeles, if you get the chance, you should just take the metro line in (red of course). The park is really a made up park with so many different things happening that you have to wonder what they really were thinking when making it, i remember seeing the construction walls up and this took for ever to view the outcome, and i have to admit saying myself and reading that it was not great to look at in any angle. I have been there a few times and my last time was a bit weird since i do not have a family, or considered a family man at all, but i did attend a event with a good friend that has a small baby girl, and from the beginning it was not a great experience, once we went from the parking structure to the the park level, we noticed that this park is not well kept, you have to keep your eye out to see who should really be there and who should not, when i say this it is because there are a few shady people in downtown, so you just have to keep your surroundings on a high level, not saying that the place is unsafe and all, but you just never know. Well i would wish that they would keep that one elevator running so my friend could have used it to take the baby on the stroller, which it was fine since i had to carry the lovely baby, and i do not mind, i just think about the people that do not have a helper in many ways. Keep the elevator going a bit longer, it really is not too much to ask people. The staff was good, i only saw a security guard, which was very helpful in the elevator question and the parking cashier, pleasant attitude. So if your in the area, i hope you find a way to visit this place, it is really not bad, but i really do not think after dark its family friendly... read more

I saw 60 watt kid and Fol Chen here. It was a decent show, and it was free. They're having concerts here the rest of the summer. The atmosphere was a little weird for an indie rock show. They started way late. There weren't that many people, and parking was closed and open for event staff only. That part was weird. They're weren't even that many people at the show. It's worth checking out for free, but it wasn't as much fun as the echo or spaceland. read more

Pershing Square - Really great time with friends and family:) - Parks Near Me - Los Angeles, California

Pershing square is a nice place to go during the winter when they light it all up for the ice skating rink. It's a small open plot of land in the middle of downtown where you can stand there and look up at all the sky scrapers without being blocked by another skyscraper. A lot of people say it doesn't have a lot green and yes, that would make it nicer, but the fact that there is still a spot that isnt a skyscraper or a parking lot left in downtown makes this spot wonderful. It's a pausing point on the walk through downtown...there's a fountain, quite a bit of open space for people to sit around and eat their lunch. It's not very green, nor is it very beautiful and architecturally appealing, but I really appreciate it for being there in the middle of all the building, and hustle bustle. It's a nice little block of breather. read more

I came here Saturday night to watch the 10,000 Maniacs perform. The city puts on free summer concerts, which is great. The park is right smack dab in between skyscrapers and old downtown buildings. The fountain is pretty cool. It fills up and looks like a little lake and drains to fill up again. It's also right in front of the Biltmore Hotel. Parking was easy and cheap ($6.60 flat rate). You can also take the Metro, which stops right up front. There are some homeless people but aren't allowed on the grass area and once the concerts begin they're kicked out of the area if they disturb people or the performance. The square also has an ice skating rink during the winter months. If you really want to experience the LA vibe, this is the place to be. read more

I thought this was a really cute park to picnic in. I came here for lunchtime with a couple of coworkers a few weeks ago and we had a fun time. The architecture is really nice - the round ball in the center of the park is a little scary-looking (I mean, what if it topples over?!) but the fountain was really pretty and so was the other stuff around it. The park affords a nice view of both the jewelry district and bunker hill's financial district. There is also a nice little garden on the other side of the park. I passed by here another time and they had a concert and it was really nice to hear that music and generally just experience this place. I definitely love Pershing Square and read more

I wish there were something more to do here, but there really isn't. It looks nice, there's a lot of art displayed, easily accessible by the Metro subway. What a fantastic surprise! We attended a concert this summer, The Blasters & Rev. Horton Heat, and enjoyed this wonderful outdoor venue. From the sculptures, to the beautiful stage, everything was perfect for a summer evening. You can bring in chairs and blankets but no food or drinks. They have food trucks and a couple of outdoor bars inside. You MUST have cash. As we didn't have any cash on us we had to run across the street to an ATM. This square is nice but there is a lack of green. It is mainly concrete and gets hot during peak hours. All the shade is taken up by nearby homeless enjoying the park. The trees are small, so you won't get much shade from them. I would bring a hat. There are a few fountains. This is not a romantic park. It is more industrial and convenient for people living nearby. read more

Pershing Square ice rink is up! I've been coming here for many years, never disappoints

Came here for the Art Deco Conservancy Tour on Saturday. It's a nice looking place, I do enjoy the grassy section where lots of people seem to like to lay out in the sun and some people brought their pets over to play. Parking below the square was easy and plentiful, and for a $6.60 flat rate a day - we paid $5 because of our tour discount - it's not bad for dtla parking at all. There's also a fountain in the middle of the square which is a unique piece and lots of people were just walking/loitering around it. My only complaint is the smell of the pet section of the square. They have a designated 'pet section' which was made of just dirt, where you should take your pet before entering the rest of the square. A great idea for sure. But why made out of dirt? It just keeps the smell there longer and makes it that much stronger. Why not grass? They probably had a good reasoning behind their decision for making it so, but the stench was overpowering and kind of killed the beauty of the square. read more

Located near the Jewelry District. Pershing Square has an underground parking lot for the downtown goers. There is a large structure with a red ball of which I'm not sure what that signifies. The park portion is a hang out spot for the vagabonds and others. People sit on the tables reading the paper or just taking in some zzz's. There is not much to see but it's just another well-known place in DTLA. It's also a major stop on the Metro Red Line. read more

Summer concert review: We had a great time! Security was good, the skyline was beautiful, & the bands were awesome! Parking was $7 after 5pm, but we saved even more parking 2 blocks away, on the NE corner of Hill & 4th. There are a lot of homeless people there, some harmless & some crazy. Security is at the park, not on the streets. It smells like urine in some areas & I wouldn't sit on the grass. There were only 2 lunch trucks the night we went, but feel free to eat at New York Pizza SW of the park. read more

Its ugly, primary color scheme and concrete overkill is in no way aesthetically pleasing. But Pershing Square is located in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles, and hosts an expansive Wednesday Farmers Market and free lunchtime concerts in the summer. It's a place that serves as a great equalizer to the area. Take, for example, the 80s cover band concert I attended. Hipster and homeless, family and office dweller alike gathered to casually watch the offerings (and I have to say, I think the homeless were better audience members). It's a fun juxtaposition, and one I'm glad to be able to access. read more

I so want to love this park, but it just can't seem to get its act together. One part or another of the park always seems to be under some sort of improvement... And the fountain can be gross at times.
