Never, ever could we have imagined that we would write back to back reviews for two of our dogs. Tricycle passed over on a Tuesday and then the following Sunday morning our Romeo woke up happy, went for a walk and ate a full breakfast. A short time later he started showing signs of distress. We rushed him to the emergency clinic where he passed away 10 minutes later from what we found out to be pericardial effusion (fluid build up in the sac that surrounds the heart). The unexpected loss of our Great Pyrenees, Parker, had our entire family at a loss. He had been our baby for almost 11 years and we were devastated at his passing. A friend actually called Perkins for us to get things going and we could not have been more pleased and actually somewhat surprised by the kindness and understanding they showed from the first phone call. They drove out to the house to pick him up and were so gentle and considerate with him while placing him on a stretcher and covering him with a blanket that my husband and I cried even harder. It somehow made it easier to let him leave his home with these two kind gentle men knowing they were going to treat him as the loving gentle giant he was. We have cremated several dogs during the last 40 years, Parker being the ninth, but we have never experienced such care and understanding. The final surprise was when he was returned to us a day later in a beautiful box with a clay paw print, a clipping of his hair, and a lovely certificate showing his private cremation and the date. When you are grieving, you just can't ask for better care. We would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone who has lost a pet and going through that tough grieving period. It's been a month since I lost my guy. He was in our lives for 14 years. A Rottweiler and a gentle giant He was not a dog, a pet, a companion, he was a family member, a friend. Nico was loyal, strong but sweet and a protector of children. The morning he passed was one of the hardest days of my life. A call was placed to Perkins. There was nobody at Perkins to help me, but I was blessed to have two young men take off work and come to my home to help me transport him. Perkins knew we were on our way to their business. When I arrived, a girl came out of the front door and yelled, "drive around back." We went around back and two young women were standing there. One said, "Put him up on that metal table," then asked, "Do you want the sheet back?" Then they said, "We will call you when you can pick him up." Nothing else was said. I was standing there numb. I thanked the two young men who helped me and I drove home. Looking back now, I am thinking, I know this is just a business for the people at Perkins. I am also thinking that being as they charge as much as they charge, they could at the very least give away some free compassion and kindness. We found this to be a dignified, affordable and courteous service. The loss of a pet is difficult; however, My Pet Passages handled the arrangements very well. We lost our Border Collie on a Sunday Morning. I found this company on the Internet and gave them a call. The owner immediately answered my call (didn't need to leave a voice mail). They were very helpful and offered to pick our pet up immediately. Instead we chose to drop our pet off. The owner met me, and we discussed my options. We chose to have a private cremation and have our dog's ashes returned to us. Her remains were returned in a simple box, along with a clay paw print, clipping of hair, and scroll indicating that she was cremated. It was very dignified, but not "over the top".
