The Fountain gallery is an asset to Bridge Road. We need somewhere like this. Although it is a…read moresmall shop it is amazingly effective. The premise is that it is a cooperative art gallery. It is collectively run by 18 artists who showcase their work here on alternate times. The Fountain Gallery also have guest artists. Usually each artist is allocated a certain period of time in which to showcase their work. I believe that the times are not fixed. Most artists seem to take it over for about a month. During this time they oversee the gallery, so customers can come and talk to the artists about their work. The art comes in a mixture of forms. Generally it is painted work, most in watercolours, sometimes there are photographers who exhibit their work. Occasionally there are potters. Although the gallery closes at 6, I have often walked past and seen open evenings, it is worth phoning ahead to find out what is on.

It's a co-operative of many artists so the exhibitions change frequently and, as a bonus, are run by the artists themselves. Come here to enjoy the art in relaxing surroundings, perhaps with a glass of wine to enhance your pleasure. Talk to the artist and buy anything from a postcard to a limited-edition print or even a full-blown oil painting or sculpture. If you want to turn yourself into a work of art you can sometimes buy, or commission, a pretty piece of original jewellery too.

They always have an artist exhibition going with some really beautiful pieces on offer - all contemporary artists... mainly British, but some stellar international talent as well. I love coming in here to simply admire the latest show that they have on their walls. It's a fantastic gallery with a really great ethos - to promote the work of modern-day artists who have a striking aesthetic that gives you slight pause. Right now, there are some invigorating landscape pieces on display by a lovely London artist, Gill Rocca... lots of snowy paths that fade into infinity and dark trees that mesmerize in a sapphire twilight - captivating and absolutely refreshing.

Northcote always have intelligent art. They also have amazing catalogues and I always keep mine. Northcote Gallery has another smaller gallery just over the river in Battersea which is also really lovely and friendly. Restless Earth by Daisy Cook is my favourite exhibition so far but I also really enjoyed Debi O'Hehir who does amazing scuplture of horses. the gallery also has an amazing staircase leading to a roof terrace. The light is fantastic in Northcote Gallery. I love it.

While most artists on the gallery programme are contemporary, this show has been an exciting trip down memory lane. And if you look closely you still find some references to Notting Hill's colourful past. I've been on guided walks following in the footsteps of Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles and Hawkwind and everything comes together nicely in this little show at The Muse. I write this review listening to an amazing soundtrack put together by Jeff Dexter and surrounded by psychedelic mandalas and iconic portraits of Dylan, Hendrix and Lennon - retro heaven! And with the Grain Store right next door for my daily dose of veggie lunches and hippie hangout Alchemy still going strong a few doors to the other side, the 60s seem to come alive again. And did you know that this address is the birthplace of both Whole Earth Foods and Green & Blacks? Well, neither did I. Back to art, though. And after Larry Smart there will be a group show of the latest group of resident artists. There are also regular sound art, music and film nights. Definitely worth it looking beyond the market stalls set up outside during the weekends.

Walking back after a few drinks at the Walmer Castle and Beach Blanket Babylon, we headed down Portobello Rd and this gallery (which is also a bar) was open and having an impromptu party! Woop! My friend knew some people including the lovely bartender, so we 'popped in for a drink' - which led to another, and another, and another... yikes, Tuesday was not fun at work.... On this visit there was an exhibition on by a Korean artist. There was a lot of neon and it was easy on the eye. The lovely Italian lady in charge made me a delicious cocktail with fresh raspberries (before I switched to old faithful g&t's). All drinks were nice and strong, and average in price. The dj was playing a lot of awesome Trojan reggae and the vibe was totally relaxed and fun, with everyone dancing and mingling. The big front window is actually a sliding door, and it was completely open as it was a nice warm evening. This made it a) welcoming for passers-by to pop in and join our party and b) enticing for us to take our dancing outside onto the pavement! Great little venue and very fun! I don't know how often they are open for parties, but it's definitely worth dropping in if you are in the area and they are open...

I arrived shortly before 10am (opening time) to be greeted with a long queue outside. Thankfully the line moved pretty quickly and I was soon inside. The staff did say that the exhibition is extremely popular on Saturdays so it is probably advisable to get there as close to opening time as possible. As the exhibition contains several mirrored rooms, which visitors can go in individually or in small groups, you do end up queueing again to get into each one, although the staff are very helpful and good at limiting the time to keeping things moving (you get 20 seconds in the pumpkin room and a minute in the others). The art itself is very cool, the mirrored rooms are excellent and each provides a very different experience (and some great photo opportunities!) The garden is really relaxing with a big pond containing another installation. If you do visit, make sure you go and have a look at the paintings and also the Rana Begum 'The Space Between' exhibition which is equally beautiful. I really enjoyed this gallery and exhibition and will definitely be keeping an eye on the listings for future exhibitions at Victoria Miro Gallery.

As I wet in I wasn't surprised, it is just not the kind of art I can truly appreciate and enjoy. However, I can understand why they might be very successful in more commercial arenas. Such as, taking up commissions to decorate the interiors of an office building, or art of government institutions, or banks, or any of the sort. I wouldn't personally pay £3,000 for a painting of the sea, which was what Rebecca Lardner proposed with her work 'Coastal Life'. Nevertheless, 'To the Limit' by James Blinkhorn touched on a more resonant matter; the sprawl of urbanisation, traffic, air pollution, some in black and one which were quite striking. The space it self is not big and you may get distracted from some black columns in the outside structure of the gallery, takes a bit away from the work. Even so, it never hurts to have a look at other people's art regardless of whether I personally like it or not, they must be doing something right if a gallery is willing to have their work for sale.
