Independent publishing is the new black. If you have access to any means of printing you should be putting out a book. The markets are flooding with them, and while access is great and all, there really needs to be some sort of aggregation to differentiate the good from the possible not so good.
Perimeter Books aims to be one such form of aggregation. Typing themselves as a small bookstore and art space in Melbourne, they are responsible for stocking much of the Northern suburbs with a well curated collection of local and international small press, art, photography, architecture and design publications.
They have an online store, but it is well worth checking out the space for yourself. The shop is full of light - white walls, etc. - and they also exhibit contemporary artists with an interest in the printed form on an ongoing basis.
This is not a zine shop - expect to pay decent money for the books you find here. Also expect to not find these in any other place in Melbourne. Exclusive Yes. Expensive Not Really. Winner All Round read more
