I'd like to make all aware of the amazing services and care I've received from Ms. Julie Boice -…read morethe magnificent Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner at Cape Fear Aesthetics. I am from Florida and relocated to the Fayetteville (NC) area in 2011. Anyone who has moved after establishing a regular and effective regimen of neuromodulators and dermal fillers with a trustworthy provider understands the angst involved. I swear it's scarier than searching for a new GYN or hair stylist! I hunted around for months before landing at Cape Fear Aesthetics. I'd been receiving treatment with Dr. Dickerson for several years and was pretty satisfied. However, I am so grateful Ms. Boice is now part of the Cape Fear Aesthetics / Fayetteville Plastic Surgery team. She's one of the best things to happen to my face since sunscreen! I cannot say enough great things about Juile's expert care. She takes great care with each patient. I never feel rushed or silly in asking questions or when I bring in absurd numbers of selfies pointing out new areas for her to work on. Also, Ms. Boice is constantly seeking to perfect her craft. I mean, this lady is constantly attending Continuing Ed. trainings! Personally, I find that super cool and confidence-inspiring. And she's patient. Like most people, I have a couple of areas that drive me crazy. I focus on the crow's feet or tiny wrinkles around my eyes / tear troughs in every picture, and I complain about those areas at every visit. Every. Single. Visit. Instead of blowing me off or insisting only a surgeon could fix my complaints, she's worked with me and has discussed my "issues" at several trainings. I know she has because she's told me about those discussions and has returned from trainings with new ideas and treatment options that have really helped. I find that kind of creativity and patient-centered approach exciting and (for me at least) loyalty-inspiring. I could go on, but I'll close by saying I encourage anyone looking for an Expert Injector in the Sandhills or NC Triangle regions to check out Ms. Boice at FPS/CFA. I think you will not be disappointed.

There were two employees working that day, and one was with a customer. I approached the other one, ready to tell her all about Mildred, the lone wrinkle on my forehead. Mildred has been threatening me to invite her sister Mavis to come live with her. My wrinkle also claims she has a pair of twin cousins, who are smile lines known as Maude and Marva. I do not want to meet any of these entities. But when they eventually arrive, I'd like to be a true expert in the art of concealer so that I can mitigate their power in between Botox applications, should that ever be suggested by a dermatologist. For now, it's just Mildred and I. And I have to master the art of concealing her before her relatives inevitably arrive and claim real estate on my face. So I come by my need for concealer honestly and like everyone else born in the early 80s I've been wearing Mac products since the 90s. I was curious...had their concealer stayed in the fight? Were they as overrated as Shape Tape? Or had they been knocked out by modern day legends like Cover FX? I was there to buy, not sample. I needed to do the kind of in-depth research that required purchasing something. The employee refused to meet my gaze and instead ducked behind the counter, opening drawers and moving around bottles. She'd been wiping down the counter but she was suddenly so busy that she literally made herself smaller than Rihanna's perfect nose. I thought it was strange. The other employee was still upselling Lip Glass to her customer, so I just waited by looking around at the place. A few minutes went by and I noticed another woman walking towards the Mac counter. The employee who was, I imagine, in a chemistry lab mixing the ingredients of Mac items below the counter, jumped up and said, "How can I help you?" I walked towards the employee and gave her an exasperated facial expression, and said "Wait...?" To which she responded with a "Gee, sorry" shrug, simultaneously acknowledging what she'd done and confirming for me that she was racist. Every single person in this story is white except me. I am black and beautiful. I left the mall immediately. I might have purchased something from the food court under normal circumstances, but I was so annoyed I just left. When I told everyone I know about this situation, they all shook their heads and tsk-tsk'ed me. Didn't I know this Mac location is patently racist? How could I have missed that tea? Did I enjoy my life on Mars? Because surely only Martians hadn't heard that this Mac is staffed with people who are disrespectful to African-American shoppers? What was wrong with me? Indeed...what was wrong with me?

Update: As far as I can tell, Belk MAC counters don't sell the pan shadows or empty palettes that I…read moreprefer, and now the price of each shadow has been reduced to $6. This is just poor business on Belk's part. Women will be looking for these and calling or stopping by, only to be disappointed. You can find them online and in regular MAC stores. Google swatches or videos if you're unsure of shades. ;) Years ago I bought MAC pretty often (95'-2008), but since going to a makeup artistry school I feel their makeup style is very heavy and not always appealing to me unless it's winter. And this type of makeup is often required by MAC in order to work there. I used to love going to this counter because there was a manager named Carrie who was so down to earth and helpful (her style was more NYC than NC), but she moved on to other opportunities. Since then girls have been rotated constantly, and while a few are helpful, many are not. I feel like I know more about the products than they do, but they still try to sell it.

Dr. Neal came in and three minutes later the appointment was over. She looked over my body in less than a minute and spent the other two minutes telling me to wear sunscreen, which I have always done. I had to pay an $80 copay. The appointment felt very rushed, she seemed to be in a hurry and didn't stay to answer my questions about what skin care products I should use beyond sunscreen. I felt invisible and like she was too busy to spend time educating me, and because I have a family history of skin cancer, I kind of wanted to make sure I was doing everything to prevent it and maybe learn about what changes to moles should be concerning. If I did have abnormal changes to my moles, they wouldn't be able to see me in time anyway. 9 months and $80 later for a 3 minute visit. I will not be going back and I would not recommend anyone here.
