She was shocked that I hired her having only looked at her portfolio, but I knew from the photos she had of another wedding at my venue that she would do a great job. And after our initial conversation I knew she would be perfect! She's a professional through and through. I appreciate her working with my husband who is camera shy and managing to document beautiful moments with our chaotic (but sweet) families. I know we made her nervous because we were pretty laid back and I am so appreciative she kindly made us take certain photos even though we said they were not important. I would highly recommend her to anyone!

I have known Lanie since our freshman year of college, and she has a special talent that is truly one of a kind. She has a unique eye for so many various natural poses and details unlike anyone I know. So many photographers over-edit photos. Lanie's artistic flair always captivates and enhances your natural beauty...something that is very important to me as a client. Lanie first started out doing a love-shoot session for my husband (then boyfriend) and I on the beach of Santa Barbara in 2011. She had a way of making us feel so comfortable in front of the camera, and captured our love in a playful and natural setting. The photos turned out amazing...it was then we decided we wanted her to photograph our wedding and engagement session in the near future. When we became engaged, there was no question that we wanted Lanie to do all of our photos. We had our engagement session at Knapps Castle in Santa Barbara, and flew her up to Washington State for our outdoor farm wedding. She captured every special moment, tear, and detail of our big day! I wouldn't have trusted anyone more. What can I say but look at the photos and see for yourself. She has a talent like no other. Bravo Lanie and keep up the good work!

I was blessed to have two bridal showers, and was looking for someone to capture both events. Lanie was the best thing that could've happened to us! All the guests were pleasantly surprised to see a photographer was there, and it really eased the annoying 50 cameras at the same time situation during photo opps :) She was so professional, easygoing, and constantly snapping photos to make sure a moment and all the details weren't missed. She provided the photos in a timely manner and even mailed over a cute package with the CD of photos. In addition to event photography, Lanie is a super talented engagement and wedding photographer. Her work is beautiful and I have a friend who saw her work with my showers and decided to have Lanie do her wedding - sure her photos will be amazing!

First, I want to say that Melissa is very kind and makes the experience comfortable, even if you're…read morenervous or shy in front of the camera. She's warm, welcoming, and easy to work with. I received around 80 edited proofs to choose from, and there were plenty of great options for my final selections. She also offers a wardrobe with beautiful dresses, as well as some clothing options for men. The location suggestions she provided were excellent, and she did a great job capturing the style and vibe I had in mind. That said, I do feel the need to mention some concerns about professionalism and turnaround time. Her contract states that proofs will be delivered within 2-4 weeks. While 4 weeks already feels a bit long, I was patient and checked in about once a week for updates. When the 4-week mark passed without receiving anything, I was disappointed. I ended up receiving the proofs after 4 weeks and 3 days. I reviewed and returned my selections the same day, but her contract didn't specify a timeline for final edits, so I wasn't sure what to expect. The final images were delivered 15 days later. When I received them, it seemed like the only changes made were removing the watermarks. Some photos still had bags and other items in the background, even though she had mentioned those would be edited out. Communication was also inconsistent. There were times when my messages were read but not answered, and at one point--about two weeks after the shoot--she indicated she hadn't started editing yet. It left me feeling like my time and excitement weren't fully considered. By the time I received my maternity photos, my baby was already three weeks old, and I had already shared photos of her arrival, despite scheduling the shoot at 34 weeks as recommended. Would I recommend Melissa? Yes, but with some expectations in mind. Her pricing is fair, and you do receive a large number of photos. However, turnaround time may be slower than expected, and communication can feel a bit casual at times. (She did provide 5 additional images to make up for the delay in delivering the proofs.) I had originally intended to do a new born shoot with her as well but I was waiting for my maternity photos to make sure I really liked them and unfortunately by the time I received them my baby was outside the 7-14 day old window she wants for newborns. Between that and the turn around time I decided against it.

This is EXACTLY what I needed as a first time mom with a 10 day old baby -- I was exhausted and feeling so overwhelmed but really wanted to capture such a special time! Our shoot went so smoothly, she came prepared with tons of props, blankets, cute clothes, and even a space heater! As expected, a newborn baby isn't the most cooperative (although he slept a lot of the time) and she knew exactly how to soothe and calm him when he got fussy. The photos came out so quickly and were so precious. I am sooo grateful to have these photos forever. I honestly didn't know if I really wanted to get them done because it was such a chaotic time but it was 110% worth it. We've gotten several framed and used some for our announcements! I met with her during the engagement shoot and absolutely fell in love with her. We hit it off and I couldn't wait for my big day. On the day of my wedding, I couldn't have asked for a better turnout. She kept me calm and laughing leading up to the aisle, and she brought tears of joy to my eyes when I saw the photos after. Her photos captured the night so perfectly and will forever be cherished. Now the hard part is deciding which photos to include in the album. It is going to be a tough choice with so many great shots to choose from. Shortly after my wedding, I had an engagement with an organization I belong to at work and was in charge of finding a photographer. It was an easy task for me having just had my wedding. So, she worked with me within the parameters needed, as our organization was a non-profit, and came up with multiple packages for the attendees to choose from. Throughout the night, I watched as the line grew longer for the photos and was pleased to see everyone laughing and smiling and seeming to be enjoying themselves while they were working with her. She and her staff were non-stop that night and all of the photos were sent out in a timely manner as promised. Since then, I have had nothing but positive feedback from those that had their photos taken and have even heard from others that they regretted not taking photos that night as they had seen her work and wished they had. If you're in the market, I highly recommend this photographer!!
