The Pepper Mill opened about 8 years ago, and as is probably quite refreshing (and necessary) for businesses that exist with so much cooking oil slopping around inside them, has been renovated at least once since opening. Unfortunately, in renovation, they also changed the management and ownership of the place. when it first opened, one of their Meat Feast Pizza's on a Friday evening used to signal the start of my weekend, and a jolly good start it was too. As tasty and meat-filled delight of an example of the genre as I've ever been blessed to enjoy.
Alas, a visit there a couple of days ago in a bid to recapture some of that lost magic highlighted to me that sometimes, you simply can't go back in time. The name is the same, ownership has changed and the meat feast is nowhere as good. Sure, they still offer a reasonable range of takeaway foods, with a large Pizza costing less than a tenner (unless you were to go for one 'with everything'), but the originality, the quality and, yes, the love that was baked into every pizza has gone. And along with it, so has my custom. read more
