It attracts local women who always dreamed of being photographed by a top photographer. While all hotels appreciate the business, we have now been contacting this hotel and particularly Mr, Dunger since October 2019. While mails have been ignored for months, on our calls a very kind Sebastian Groß assured the rooms we need were available and they would so much love to have us. Now, in February 2020, Mr. Dunger informs us that it is the hotel's policy to generally not host events like ours. I understand and accept this decision, but entirely fail to understand why it took them five months to pass such key information to us. So if you plan an event there, you may want to be careful.

Why 4 stars and not 5? We were hit with a bill for two nights parking at 30 Euro per night. When booking on the Holiday Inn website, one is asked to add breakfast for max 2 people at 15 Euro. Why does the website not ask if one is interested in a parking space at 30 Euro per night? This would make it very clear that the parking at the hotel is not free. Still, I highly recommend the Holiday Inn in Zwickau.

To be completely honest this hotel feels like someone crammed all the must-haves of a 5 star hotel…read morewithout paying attention to design, condition, quality etc. All together, hotel has a large number of accommodations, spa, pool, medicinal procedures, however it feels more like a hospital than it does a hotel. The entire place feels run down and highly out of date. It felt like I was staying in an old soviet sanatorium rather than a nice hotel. In terms of food, it was mostly cold, and the choices in the buffet are quite bland. As for the positives, the gym was incredible. Fully accommodated fitness center no different to one that you pay much more money for. Very good deal for this one in my opinion. Overall, I'd only recommend this hotel for the gym, however it's open to visitors who aren't hotel guests for a small fee. (I stayed in Oct. 2024 and am writing this review a few months later so please consider this before taking my review into account)

The rooms are huge, and while…read morenormally that isn't a complaint, you feel like the room is a missed opportunity which could be fixed by a mild upgrade. The service needs a slight overhaul in that the systems don't seem clear and the staff seem a little disjointed. The front desk staff could provide concierge level information in the absence of an actual concierge desk and easily direct the doorman on expectations regarding the car and parking. The valet service could be more direct on how the system will work so that the cars don't back up on the hill entrance to the hotel. And the pool attendant could be more helpful and learn only the needed english to be customer service friendly. Since she was combative, tons of patrons seemed lost rather than going to her. And if there is something that is stated to be offered in the room like a gift from one of the hotel's stores, then it should also be left at the desk for when they are closed. Because of the old world charm of the hotel and the truly huge advantage for upgrade to this off the path location, I hope they improve in some key areas which stands to make this a great place to visit.

You are also just a few minutes walking from the forest trails as well as I really loved the location mostly because it was close enough to walk everywhere, but on a side street so you got no traffic noise or high hotel costs. As for the actual hotel it was nice, clean, and the staff was very nice and friendly. The room I had was for one easily big enough for 2, included a buffet breakfast and only cost 750 czk (the equivalent of about 30 USD) a night even on weekends! The room had a balcony, a tv, wifi (that was fast and excellent), fridge, double bed, desk, chair, nightstand and large wardrobe. It was a very comfy setup. The staff was remarkably nice. They lent me all kinds of things while I was there ( a cloth bag for my things, a special mug for drinking the thermal water), addressed me by name, allowed me to check in early (and waived the fee), held my baggage when I left, showed me around the hotel where everything was, answered all my questions about the area without annoyance and even recommended great food places nearby. Would recommend this hotel to single travelers, couples or budget travelers for an excellent, cheap place to stay. Great service, great experience!

They know the good places, no matter how remote! I had Sauerbraten with Kloese with Semmel and green beans. The quality was excellent. There was nothing in the meat serving except first quality meat (not a trace of fat or gristle). Everything tasted delicious and the portions were large. Apparently this Gasthof has been in business for decades and is well-known by the people in the area, and at certain times it is quite busy. The Erzgebirge is beautiful, and this place is a great find. The Erzgebirge is known for their woodcarvings and the Gasthof Giegegruen is a museum of large carved figurines, some with multiple figures, and ceiling lights. My host knew of my interest, and since we were there in the middle of the afternoon, we made a tour of the entire facility to see the carvings. (My host pointed out that you can see where the wood was laminated in order to get a piece of wood large enough for the figurines. My host said using laminated wood was not characteristic of older Erzgebirge carvings. These are mostly large pieces, however, so I understand why they would use wood glued together before doing the carvings.. The carvings are skillfully done and a treat to see, especially such a large collection.) Do plan to visit the upstair, large rooms. The small buildings behind the Gasthof are exhibits of historic rooms, including a bakery and home arts. The animated baker and his son sing and tell about baking. The Disneyland-like technology is rather amazing given the location of the Gasthof. I speak enough German to get by, and you would need some German verbal skill in order to get the most out of the experience. We went back later in the day for ice cream sundaes, another great reason to visit the Gasthof! If visiting the Erzgebirge, which I highly recommend, the Gasthof Giegengruen is a MUST visit!

Wow wow wow, I've stayed at quite a few hotels at this point of my life, but this was honestly one…read moreof the best experiences I've had (the other one being a hot spring resort in Costa Rica). Karlovy Vary is one of the three cities that make up the Bohemian Spa Triangle in west Czech Republic, so if you are planning to stay a night or two at Karlovy Vary, you definitely need to book a hotel that comes with spa and sauna. Hotel Carlsbad Plaza is known for this and the booking should automatically get you access to their spa/sauna (though all the procedures, medical treatments, and doctors' consultations will cost extra). We were immediately greeted by a staff who offered to take our luggage, followed by an offer for glass of juice or wine. Afterwards, a kind lady also showed us where our room is. This is helpful if you have a room at the 5th floor or above because floors 5-8 is a new building and require a different elevator once you get to floor 4 from the lobby. The room was VERY spacious. Extremely nice view during the fall season especially. Bathroom comes with very nice shampoo and body wash. They provide with you bath robes that you can wear to the spa/sauna. They also provide you with fresh fruits when you first get to your room, which was on the hotel. There is always someone who comes in late afternoon to remake your bed and drop off some chocolate unless you opt out. Overall, service here was 5/5 impeccable. Their sauna was amazing! They have multiple sauna rooms, each with a slightly different temperature. They have a steam room as well. We spent about 1.5 hours trying out all the rooms and by the time you are done, you feel like you have just ran a marathon without actually running it. This is the best way to get runner's high without running. Their breakfast is from 7AM-10AM. Absolutely amazing! Extremely wide selection of food. Their omelettes and fried eggs are to die for. Their tea station is solid. They have actual fresh tea leaves and you package it into your own tea bag before you place it into your own pot. Honestly, the thing I missed the most about was the breakfast here. In all honesty, this hotel definitely had the best breakfast I've ever had out of all the hotels I've stayed at so far. It is also located very conveniently. Karlovy Vary is not a big city. Its main town is basically one long street. This hotel just so happens to be located at the end of the street and you can easily walk to the other end in 15-20 minutes while tasting all the hot spring waters along the way.
