All sorts on sale, for - you've guessed it, only ONE pound! I won't lie, when I was a student I shopped here all the time. Cleaning products, deodorant, all that kind of stuff that a student needs for cheap. Come to think of it, maybe I should start getting a little more shopping from here! This Poundland seems a little messy, but then again it is Pounland, not Fortnum and Mason.

I must say, it's much nicer when not every single light is on. This shop sells a lot more artsy and unique lighting options - many of the lamps are some sort of statue or piece of artwork affixed with a lightbulb. Genres of lighting include: chandeliers, tall and short reading lamps, ceiling fixtures and outdoor decorative designs. There were also several in mosaic and frosted glass styles. Things that didn't light up included paintings on canvas and clocks - cuckoo and fancy Roman. All items are 40% off - Some signage indicates it's a closing out sale, so if you're looking for unique sources of light, you'd best venture in shortly.

In the summer they have really unusual outdoor furniture & accessories. I have a Cargo discount card which gives 10% off, I was given it free sometime ago but I think they may cost £5 now. Still worth it if you are going to buy furniture. Staff are always helful.

Octopus is full of the kind of cute and annoying homeware I loathe. There's umbrella with handles painted like cats heads. Cheese graters that resemble painted ladies in big skirts. Handbags that are shaped and painted like pandas. Jewellery boxes that are decorated like bad canal boats. And bike locks that double as toy snakes. Enough said? Thought so!

Half woman-half cheese grater, for instance. Ice scrapers, dust pans and scissors had been transformed into works of art; and the wall of cuckoo clocks released a variety of animals on the hour. The sales clerks were very friendly and helpful - I was immediately greeted, which I've noticed is a rarity, and I overheard one clerk advising a man on what his 25 year old daughter would probably enjoy. She was able to tell him which items were top sellers for that age group. Also impressive. So, it felt more like walking through a gallery - and several of the items would make great gifts and conversation starters.

I love everything in there…read more They have amazing stuff from tableware to woodenware, textiles and enamelware, from glassware to tea pots, jugs and mugs on a shop with such a nice decoration and pleasant staff that makes a shopping experience being so good. The shop is really cool, on a building with a lovely colour and all the wonderful things are organized in a neatly and tidy way that makes it even harder to resist. Ok, I couldn't decide on what to buy (luggage restrictions - but good for my wallet, otherwise I would just bought everything!!) so I had to go one second time to check again and buy as much as I could! Thus, two times on the same day and they already knew me! Oh well, is just the way it is, but they were friendly, chatty and their product knowledge is amazing. So, feel free to go around, buy all you need (and what you don't need but there are so many awesome things that is just impossible not to) and try not spending all your money! Totally worth it.

They have a large range of bakeware, storage pots, utensils, dining ware, aprons and tea towels. Some items even come with explanations in case their use isn't obvious. I came away with a couple of old fashioned preservation bottles and a nifty little device to stop teapots dripping - a highly original Christmas present and lots of fun while the recipient tries to guess the function of said gift! The shop owner is really friendly and loves a chat as you browse. They also have an on-line shop if you're not local but still want to check out what they have to offer.

It's attractively laid out and lovely to browse, and excellent for things such as olive spoons, tea-bag squeezers, lemon rind peelers, which in my book are not essentials, but make those specific tasks so much easier. I just wouldn't pay £14.95 for a fold away colander. Why have a fold away colander? That said, they do sell a really good range of kitchen knives here at good prices and that's one thing you should spend a but of money on.
