Bottom of bathroom door. Door did not fully close.

To be clear, this is a review of the Lodge, not the Hotel, which is a different property. We stayed three nights. The room was fairly clean and the staff were friendly. However, many smaller things could be improved. We would only stay here again if there was no better option. Despite lots of information on the website about the building being ADA compliant and having ADA compliant rooms, it does not state anywhere that there is no elevator. We were given a room on the second floor so we had to haul our luggage up the stairs. The person at the front desk told us clearly that access to our rooms was only via stairway and no one offered to help. For an older person who is not handicapped but has bad knees this was a nuisance. The staircase to access the second floor was grungy and you had to pass by some laundry bins filled with used towels and / or sheets (see photo). The indoor pool is off the lobby so the lobby has a strong odor of pool chemicals. Despite the comments by others, there was no fruit of any sort with the breakfast. The scrambled eggs were pre-salted and very salty. Very rudimentary breakfast other than the sausage and salty eggs. In the room, the bathroom door did not close all the way, and the bottom of the door was peeling and decayed (see photo.) The coffee maker did not work, or we could not get it to work (there were no directions). There was a big brown stain in the shower stall that looked like it would have come off with better cleaning. There were few outlets for charging phones or laptops. For the laptop, I had to search behind the desk for a wall outlet. The beds were comfortable but if we travelled to Wellsboro again, we'd look at other options. However, we were told by local residents that this is the best option.

There is confusion between the Hotel and Lodge: The Penn Wells Lodge (which is this page) and the Penn Wells Hotel (which is a much older and historical than the Lodge) are one block apart and different buildings. The overall rating for the Penn Wells Lodge is not accurately reflected in this listing, because Yelpers are confusing the two and many of the negative and low star reviews are actually meant for the Hotel and not the Lodge. Our experience at the Lodge was top notch. The staff was polite and friendly, the room was clean with comfortable beds, there was a gym, pool as well as a hot tub. I wish we had brought our bathing suits! The breakfast included in the reservation was more than we expected. The breakfast is not simply a continental breakfast. It included eggs, french toast, and sausage. In addition there was yogurt, fresh baked muffins, bagels, apples and bananas. There is even a Keurig Machine in the room with Starbucks K-cups!

Beautiful. This is the lodge, not the hotel. The hotel is dated the Lodge is upscale. We got a single king suite which includes a living room with a sleeper sofa an chair. the bedroom is a separate room with a door and a kitchenette with a table and the refrigerator is not residential but it's not a dorm size refrigerator.

We stayed here a few times, standard rooms, lots of noise though, this place is about 80 years old. staff was friendly and polite. i swear the first time i forgot the key in the door how often does that happen!? we all had a good laugh about it. they do have a lounge downstairs and a restaurants that's open for diner. this place is pretty decent, I want to say a room was arounf 45 dollars a night when we stayed there.

Her situational awareness and attention to detail are spot on. Her positive and upbeat attitude instills that back into the establishment and the people around her. If you are in the area and don't take the time to visit here, you missed out on a fine experience!

We were lucky to find accommodation for the night. The lobby was stunning with deep woods, a large fireplace, comfy furniture. My son loved the accents like an old mailbox and a princess-style rotary lobby phone. Our room was a decent size. I was impressed with the height of the door--it must have had a transom window at some point in time. The bathroom was super cute with clean white tiles, a spacious shower, and a relic from another time--a hole in the wall for used razor blades. My grandmother's bathroom used to have one of those, but my son has never seen one and was fascinated. The vintage features really make it interesting to stay in places like the Wells Hotel. They have an elevator, but we opted to use the stairs as they were also beautiful in red carpeting and lined with rich woods. Breakfast was included and served in an equally beautiful space. The staff was so friendly, the food was great and the location was wonderful for walking around town.
