Three weeks later. What a blessing and I have no problems whatsoever with my knee. Two weeks ago, Dr. Beurk performed a rotator cuff reversal on my left arm. What a difference already. Dr. Beurk and his staff give excellent care, compassionate to needs and waste no time providing excellent services to give patients relief. I'm done with Geisinger Orthopedics. I have been a patient here for a few years, mostly because it's where a lot of people recommended…read more I wasn't always entirely unhappy with the service; I just would often leave there feeling like no one was listening to me when i would tell them what was wrong. There were so many patients there all the time, I seriously felt like a number. I don't ever remember anyone calling me by my name except for the one who was calling me back to a room. I went to them complaining of severe knee pain. It was so bad that i could barely drive, i couldn't sleep, i couldn't sit too long, i couldn't stand too long. I was miserable. "Let's get x rays of your back" which totally confused me but, okay, you're the doc. I left there a little confused. The x-rays don't show much. So, one MRI of my spine later, I got a call to set up physical therapy. I said, "for what?" That poor girl didn't know. I told her that I in fact, had an MRI on my back but no one talked to me about the results. So now I have to schedule an appt. It was with a physician assistant which I have no issue with because I always have good experiences with them, except this one acted frustrated that he had to explain anything to me. The MRI showed I have arthritis in my back, bulging discs, etc. That appt lasted exactly 6 mins. I left with more questions than answers AND a bad knee. I went to physical therapy which was a complete waste of time. There are so many people down there getting PT, that I would have to wait until my therapist was done with 6 other people before I knew what to do next. I went 3 times and gave up. I should note that every time I went there, they would say, "oh you're here for back pain" I would say, I don't have any back pain. My knee is the problem, and it still is. They continued to tell me that it was because of my back. At my follow up appt, They gave me a cortisone shot, prescribed me meds and sent me on my way. Now I have to schedule another follow up, for what exactly, I have no idea. I get the PA again. This time, I sat and waited for him for 24 minutes, For the first 14 of those minutes, outside my room, I heard him talking to the nurses and joking around about what they were getting for lunch. (They decided to order pizza in case you were wondering) He came into the room and asked how my back was feeling. I said, "it's fine, it's been fine. My knee is still killing me though." He told me "Well, surgery is just going to make everything worse" (surgery? on what? I didn't even know what was wrong) I just stared at him. At this point, I knew this was the last time I was coming here. He sent me off with "Do you know any good chiropractors? If you don't, I know a few" I said, "no thank you" and I left. Ill wrap this up by saying, I went through my insurance to find another ortho doc. At my first appt, I was amazed that there were only 2 of us in the waiting room, and the doctor I saw could not have been nicer. He HEARD me. He said, "I don't think this is coming from your back" after we discussed the problem and he examined me. "Lets get an MRI of your knee" well finally. Turns out, I have severe arthritis under my knee cap, two foreign objects "floating" around, and my meniscus is frayed and torn. These doctors are paid an astronomical amount of money. They aren't all bad, but at the very least, please just take some time to listen. Call me by my first name. Pretend I'm not inconveniencing you. That office is nothing more than an assembly line. So, Mr Physician's assistant, I didn't find a good chiropractor, I decided to find a good doctor.

I would never use Premier Orthopaedics for imaging again based on my experience with their billing…read morepractices. Before BOTH of my MRI appointments, Premier verified my copay as $75. I was told $75 before each appointment, and Premier collected $75 from me each time. I was never told this was merely an estimate or warned that I could later owe hundreds of dollars more. Afterward, I was billed an additional $500. When I disputed the charges, Premier's billing department told me that my account documented the original $75 copay verification. I spent months trying to resolve this and eventually submitted a formal written dispute. What is most frustrating is that Premier ultimately acknowledged in writing that the copayment initially collected was based on an "incomplete review" of my insurance benefits--yet still refused to adjust the additional $500 balance. That may be how Premier characterizes it now, but I was never told before either MRI that the $75 amount they gave me was an estimate. Had I been told that Premier had not fully verified my benefits and that my actual cost could be substantially higher, I could have made an informed decision before receiving the services. On top of the billing issues, it also took almost a month for my MRI results to get to my doctor. Having to deal with that delay on top of everything that followed with billing made the entire imaging experience incredibly frustrating. I went out of my way to determine my cost beforehand. I was given the same $75 copay for two separate appointments and paid exactly what Premier told me I owed both times. I don't think patients should have to find out later that the financial information they were given before receiving care was based on an incomplete review. If you use Premier for imaging, get the quoted cost in writing and specifically ask whether they have actually completed the benefit verification and whether you could be billed substantially more afterward. I also recommend following up to make sure your results are actually sent to your doctor. I wish I had known all of this before using Premier for my MRIs.

They told me I would meet with the surgeon in a few days after the swelling subsided to schedule surgery. I was also told I could work my normal 8 hour shift. While working wearing the boot I was put in and having my foot down for 3 hours my foot swelled so much that edema blisters formed. No one ever called to schedule the follow up with the surgeon. The advice I was given was terrible and the care was non existent. I truly believe I am in a situation that is worse then when the actual incident occurred that injured my foot to begin with. These people are DANGEROUS!

But you know your body and you know if something isn't right. I was to another Orthopedic Specialist that wouldn't listen to me and then came to Dr. Longenecker for a second opinion. They took the time to show me what a normal knee should look like and we tried treating it before we had to go through with the Total Knee Replacement. While in his care I fell and I complained that something was wrong with my other knee. I had to convince them to do the MRI and sure enough I had a torn meniscus in the other knee. I had a script problem with my insurance and one of the doctors personally took the script to the pharmacy knowing I had been through enough. You aren't just another number.

Dr put me at ease by letting me know he was a great Doctor/Surgeon. My out come was fantastic. He told me upfront before I went into surgery that I might wake up with plates and screws. The break was a bad one. I woke up with only a few Kwires in my foot a great looking X-ray and Dr Nord saying "we got it done". No understand he is human and not all outcomes are great. Maybe I got lucky or maybe he is a great surgeon I'm going with the latter. Thank you for taking care of me. Oh he loves to talk music. Is a Pink Floyd & Led Zep fan.
