Ah, Terra State. My home for my final two years of high school. The many fond memories... the…read moremany painful ones... the people... the professors... What an experience. I completed 65 credit hours here while in my last two years of high school. All of the credits transferred to the University of Toledo; although, my program (pharmacy) did not accept all of them. Oh well. It was great to gain college experience while in high school and interact at a college-level with others instead of dealing with high school drama. I'm really glad I had this chance and recommend it to any who also find themselves in a similar situation. The buildings are a bit antiquated, but they serve their purpose. The faculty are very knowledgable, most having their Ph.D.'s. The campus has really come a long way since I started. The outreach within the community is present as well as a nice music program headed up by some talented musicians. I played in the Brass Choir while I was there and had the chance to perform at many venues in Northwest Ohio. I recommend this to anyone in high school looking for college credit, anyone who recently graduated looking to save money, or anyone beyond the intial days of education who are just looking to come back to school again.

The advisors and teachers care more than I've experienced at other schools and an open door policy was pretty common. Sure not every advisor or teacher, but most and certainly more than other schools. They were often pretty open with me about options rather than pushing for what they felt was best. Example: I was originally in psychology and my advisors and teachers said great, if you are prepared to get a doctorate as any less probably won't do much good. They advised social work since you can do pretty much the same thing with less schooling. Other schools pushed for whatever major first picked without an reality checks or advice. MTC was actually honest. The graduation ceremony was well done and held in a nice theater.

I'm not a student, so I can't speak to it academically. Sweetie's brother goes here, and plays basketball. So four stars is just right, because I am indeed a fan. The arena is fairly small, but well-laid-out and works well for spectators. Concessions, tickets, bathrooms, etc., make sense and are cheap and clean. Parking isn't too bad; there are no public lots right next door, so you need to walk a bit, but there is plenty. As for the rest of the school, the campus is pretty and there are some architecturally interesting buildings. His dorm is, well, pretty typical, though a bit nicer than my dorm at OSU long ago. Students are friendly, and I haven't seen any craziness- but then I haven't been there late on a Saturday night.

Now, with a son and daughter of my own, I've become a huge fan of the Denison Big Red. We take time out of our busy schedules to drive a few miles down the road to cheer on the Big Red. NCAA basketball isn't all about packed arenas and $75 tickets. At Denison, you can get into the game for free (or, if you choose, the price of a small donation that normally, I believe, goes to charity). At the game, you can literally sit court-side and feel like you are part of the action, part of the team. You won't witness the NBA's next generation of high-flying stars, but you will see teams devoted to execution and hustle. All the drama of great competition is there. During half time we like to wonder around the beautiful campus and facilities. Great memories over four years at Denison University's athletic complex in Granville Ohio with…read moreWashU Swimming. The complex is maybe ten years old, but looks new. It houses indoor track, tennis and swimming. My visits after Thanksgiving have been at their annual Denison Invitational Meet with my son. The school uses the opportunity to fundraise the local food bank. My specific experience with the school is through swimming only. So the rating has nothing to do with academics, although I know from ratings and word of mouth it is a strong D3 school. The pool is a looker. It's a 50 meter with diving wells. They also installed a very large spectator area to hold large events like conference and the Denison Invitational. However, a star deduction with air quality issues over the years. This makes competing much harder. So long Denison University. My son has graduated out of this meet and it will be missed. Not just the facility, but the people and memories it holds.
