A traditional perfume house, probably the only one I have seen in today's modern world. Even from the outside the shop looks magical, like an alchemist's lab. Which, I discovered is in fact what William Penhaligon was. The scents, oils and perfumes are lush and you can see from miles the care that goes into making everything in the store. The sales woman had obviously been trained about the Penhaligon's philosophy. Leather cases made in the tradition of the saddle maker, perfume bottles made from hand blown glass and hand cut with a diamond wheel. They create an entire mood as soon as you walk in. They have their 21 fragrances out for you to try and it is very likely you'll find one you love. My favourite 'Blenheim Bouquet' (for men) has hints of lemon, lime and lavender with undertones of musk, pine and black pepper, it is very pungent and cut throat. A 50ml bottles goes for £50, 100ml for £70. They have an entire range; soap, oil, talcum, bath gel, shaving cream, after shave and deodorant stick. It is like going into an aristocrat world, but just go in and enjoy the ride. read more
