It's a bit of a smack in the face walking in here. The music is REALLY loud (alright, alright old man) and the walls are stocked to the ceiling with glass fronted shelves full of cigars on the left and smoking paraphernalia on the right (yes that means pipes and bongs). The cigar collection was pretty extensive, as was their pipe arsenal. It did seem a little expensive, not to mention a little intimidating. Probably not somewhere you'd take your mum.

On a recent visit when I nipped in for a pack of chewing gum, the various foul smelling, painfully thin and toothless characters waiting at the counter told me what that dark secret was. Despite the pleasant exterior, the lather large amount of skagheads that visit this pharmacy for their weekly methodone hit makes it a virtual no-go area at certain times of the day. I've worked on The Royal Mile for about six or seven weeks now, and have already seen two rather sizeable, drink and drug fuelled brawls outside. It really is quite astounding that the powers that be send the junkies here, to the city's main tourist thoroughfare, for their pick-me-up. Given that heroin addicts aren't known for their early morning "rise and shine" attitudes, as long as you get here before 1pm you'll be alright, and will find a quite lovely little outlet for all your pharmaceutical needs.

They cover all the basic pharmacy items and, although not overwhelmingly friendly, we're courteous enough. Because of the Royal Mile location and because I would think they are an independent pharmacy, their prices were quite a bit higher than the Boots around the corner. Their package of 16 paracetamol was £0.55 here, whereas Boots' were only £0.16. That said, it is convenient and handy if you need to stop in here, and it didn't seem unsafe at all to me despite what the other reviewer said.

This store smells exactly like his front room used to! It's a family run shop selling pipes, cigars, lighters and tobacco, at reasonable prices. They also ship to anywhere in the world. I was surprised to see a lighter at £180, my jaw hit the floor! Why would anyone pay that for a lighter is beyond me, but there you go! A great shop if you want to get your fix, but otherwise just interesting for a wee look and maybe a flashback to your childhood!

Both were very strong tasting whiskeys although I felt the Berry Bros was slightly smoother with a better aroma. This shop has a large humidor with a good selection of fine cigars and accessories. The owner was very nice and had an in depth understanding about whiskey and cigars. A display of classic smoking pipes were affixed to the wall across from the massive whiskey bottle inventory and sitting lounge.
