It was a rainy day: drizzling : that consistency of rain that makes you feel a bit run down. I was met with the most delicious, warming coffee: a very smooth latte, that had such a lovely taste that there was no need for a drop of sugar. They were out of most of their pastries by the time I sat in--due to their popularity, I have no doubt. I chose one of their remaining items: a small cake that had a touch of lemon and a raspberry on top of a creamy frosting. It was delicious--a welcomed treat when I felt in need of a pick me up. I did not have a chance to test their food so am unable to comment. Do note however: This is a VERY small place. Cozy to be sure, but small and by no means for larger groups. It is ideal for the soloist and duos to come in and have a fairly quick coffee, cake, and food (I assume). This is NOT a place to study. There are no comfortable lounge chairs, chairs or tables. The seating is composed of stools that reside at two bars. It's kind of reminding me of Italian style cafes where you drink your espresso at the bar, across from the barista who just served it to you (though in Rome, they don't offer you stools even!). My wife had the fluffy scrambled eggs, creamy, cheesy, served over toast with bacon and hash browns. This is something she gets often, and she has had none better than the ones here. I can also report that the coffee was very good. My wife had a Macchiato and said it was quite nice as well. Including the food, drinks and a small tip, the total bill was £36. At £18 per person, this was not cheap but I had no problem with the value. The experience including the food, the service and the vibe all added up to make this worth the cost. Laboratorio is a unique name for a coffee shop. We were greeted by a wonderful staff and noticed that they were quite busy at the time we visited. The store is small, with seating both inside and outside. They also have pastries available, but we ended up just getting the coffee. I ordered an iced latte, which was probably a mistake because it was a bit diluted and the coffee flavour was weaker. My partner got the hot version, and it was much better because you could taste the beans more clearly. Overall, I was very satisfied with the coffee. Just a reminder to avoid the iced latte next time! Good service and great coffee!

For a long time I thought Starbucks had a good coffee till l tried the real Italian stuff. This is a real cosy shop very minimalistic, but that's how the best places have succeeded. I was given a first class service couldn't fault it, the staff where very friendly and took time to explain & recommend anything that l was unsure of. The sandwiches look and taste awesome, where the flavours really do compliment each other. There are a few sweet treats available in the right sizes, nothing worse than the usual massive wedges of gateau or meringue that you normally see. I would like to think that this would be one of my regular haunts from now on.

They even told me the origin behind the name (everyone probably knows it now) & I always loved the funny & cool names they used for all their food things (the Stoofa always makes me smile!). This place would be a solid 5 stars if it wasn't for one thing: their opening hours. I know due to their location it probably doesn't work & I'm sure they have tried opening a bit later and maybe that didn't work BUT they used to be open on a Saturday and this was the one & only time I could really ever make it along for some WTMS tastiness & some rockin' tunes and now they are no longer open on a Saturday :-( My boyfriend & I used to love popping along here after a wee jaunt round the town on a Saturday, but alas no more can we do this...I don't work anywhere near this place either so coming here for lunch is a no-go too. Such a shame. Can't even pop in for a cheeky Oreo Speedwagon (I LOVE this name!!!) on my way home as they shut at 5pm. Dang. I am missing my WTMS bagel-fix. I love their bagels. I used to change it up and I have tried quite a few different foods in here but I just can't stray from the bagels now (sounds like a love song). Tasty tasty goodness. Quality ingredients combined in interesting & delicious ways nuzzled between beautiful bagels. UH. YES. On my last visit (I was lucky to have a day off mid-week & popped in town for some much missed monkey action) I had a delicious coffee with an Operation bagel ~ this is Roast chicken, red onion, leaves, house Caesar dressing, thyme, parmesan, balsamic and lemon juice and it is divine! Another favourite is the Firewalker (Smoked turkey, mature cheddar, sun-dried tomatoes, red onion, chillies and lemon juice) and the Witchfynder (Chorizo, smoked cheese, spring onion and chilli mayo). So damn good. I mentioned above the Oreo Speedwagon (Haha! Love that name too!) & I really find it hard to visit here without having one as I love it. It was one of the first (and only) places at the time to serve a milkshake-like drink with Oreos in it. If you haven't tried one then please do ~ you wont regret its milky, creamy Oreoy (?!) goodness *slurp* The toilet here is something to behold - the walls are completely covered from toes to nose (well, and then some) with rock posters/stickers and it is ace. You can't help but sit there and wonder at them all. I'm sure this is the reason anyone who enters this loo takes *slightly* longer to reappear than normal. At least I hope thats the reason... I love all the wee rooms & nooks & crannies this place has. Comfy sofas, books to read & such a relaxed atmosphere. It made me giggle when I was last in sitting there on this seen-better-days sofa opposite me where 2 suited-up business guys devouring their bagels whilst heavy metal played in the background. It's a wee space so keep that in mind when visiting - there's a wee table for two as well as a window seat where you could fit about 4 people. There's good tunes, a chilled-out, welcoming vibe and of course the delicious cakes. You can also get ginger ale (made in house), toast (with butter and jam, or cinnamon brulee) and soup. They offer free wifi and are happy for you to hang out for a wee while if you want to work away on your laptop, like I am right now. I grabbed a cup of tea and the cinnamon brulee toast which is just ridiculously delicious and tasty - and a good portion at two large slices for just £1.50. As I said, it's pay what you want but everything is marked with a price which at least gives you an idea of what you should be coughing up! The window space is great for watching cars go by too, if you need some time for brainstorming.

Stan's serves hand filtered coffee, so you wont get a latte or a cappuccino here, but what you will get is an excellent, smooth coffee and cakes and bakes from the likes of Bakery47. So far I've tried a banana and peanut butter loaf, brownies and a rose and pistachio sponge cake - all delicious. It operates on a pay what you want basis, which I liked the idea of, but was a little daunted by before going in. I shouldn't have worried though, as suggested prices are displayed and you can just choose whether or not you want to add a little extra (which is nice to do, because art). If you're travelling from elsewhere keep in mind that it's teeny tiny and maybe only sits around 8 or so people, but I've always taken away (Alexandra Park is across the road if you fancy a picnic). The owner is very friendly and when you can't make it along in person, keep an eye on her social media - her Instagram hashtag #peoplewhostareintostans is a hilarious watch of people peering into the shop suspiciously from their cars at the traffic lights. Though I do worry I'll be one of them one day...peeking in to check out the cakes on display!

If you fancy a bit of brunch, you can have all the trimmings, including eggs how you like them and Belgian waffles with bacon and syrup. My brunching boyfriend assured me that his bacon brunch was delicious and that the waffles were wonderfully fresh. Whatever your whim, The Coffee House is keen to cater and welcomes brunchers, coffee 'n' cake connoisseurs and lunch munchers.
