I use it primarily for photography, but I've seen other groups gather to do park-like activities on occasion (yoga, picnic, etc). It's never been particularly busy when I've gone and there's a little parking lot near the entrance. It's honestly a hidden gem!

Hundreds of dollars in soil amendments cannot make a decent growing medium. It doesn't help that they scrape it clean and leave it fallow all winter and spring. Also he never apologized for ruining the plots last year. I won't be back.

The playground nearby isn't huge but it has the main staples of swings, monkey bars and slides. I really like the flowers and chickens vokunteers maintain at the farm. Community Park says it all and there is a community garden. This park has the usual playground and picnic areas and service building. The treasure is the active life plan. A walking path through a nature preserve with a pond that actually roars in the spring from frogs calling out to each other. There are various exercise stations along the path with stretching equipment. Add a tennis court and we have compact park with nearly everything tucked away in a quiet corner of the twin cities.

Flash forward to present day, and I attended the winter wonder hike with lead Michael at the sister property to Dodge in Cottage Grove. My friend and I were the only one on the hike along with our mini baby and despite some hiccups of the baby crying, we loved that Dodge had something to offer in the cold winter months. As a human, I appreciate anyone who can lead a walk in the cold as it's extremely hard to get out in nature solo when it's dark and the sunsets so quickly. Thank you, Michael and Dodge Nature Center! This "Community Center" has gone downhill since I moved here 13 years ago. They used to have after…read moreschool programs in the big, grassy play area in back. They also used to have free hair cuts and backpacks for kids in the fall. Since Pillsbury took over (I think), they put up which was first called a "community" garden, but then neighbors were told we could NOT, in fact, have any of the vegetables. People from outside of North come in to work on the garden, play loud music and leave garbage from their meals to blow around. They used to have a really good groundskeeper who took pride in the appearance of the grounds. There has been a TV sitting on their boulevard and garbage in their back alley for about three weeks. Garbage is strewn around the inside of the fence. Their number listed goes unanswered. One good thing--thus, one star: they provide pretty good food to neighbors in need, which is truly amazing. They just need to step get back the programs for kids, lose the "non-community" garden and start picking up their garbage.

This is a small pocket park that sits adjacent to the Smith Avenue Bridge high atop the bluffs. It…read moregets its name for its view that its visitors get of the Minnesota State Capitol. It also provides stunning views of the Cathedral of Saint Paul, the Mississippi River, and downtown Saint Paul. There is free street parking in front of it and within a reasonable walking distance. This park is not for those with a fear of heights because you are high above the water. I have seen this park spelled with an "a" and with an "o". The correct spelling is Capitol, with an "o", as in the Minnesota State Capitol. Outside of the breathtaking view the park does not have much to offer. There are some benches in the area to sit on. There are however, some shady characters that hang around the area and use a little opening on the side of the overlook to walk underneath the bridge. This is a nice spot that overlooks downtown St Paul and the Mississippi River. You can get some good pictures from here. It is in relatively decent shape, even though it is in an area that seems to be neglected. This place is definitely worth a peek if you are in the area. I would not make a special trip for it or anything.
