There are three main play areas - one for older children with big climbing frames to play on and in - one shaped like a horse is always a big hit! There is a sand pit in the middle great for younger children if you have older ones on the play equiptment. The second play area is for under 6's and is full of little houses which my little ones love, running in and out of the houses. There is also a play barn with straw - which is a bit annoying as the children come out covered in it but they have loads of fun! There is a large picnic area with a few lovely climb on statues, and chickens and ducks wandering around. There is also lots of walks and well signed routes around the farm, along the river and through fields. In the warm weather there is a river to paddle in. In the summer they have tractor rides - a pound each but always a hit! Animals - they dont have many but they have enough to entertain young children - a few pigs, cows, sheep, donkeys, and a little petting area with rabbits, peacocks and chickens. Really the main emphasis is on playing so teh animals are more of a sideline i feel. There is a restaurant and a cafe which is ok, fairly standard fair and not excellent but does the job. There is also a butchers and a bakers - lovely good quality meat. All in all a nice afternoon out - busy in school holidays but very quiet in term time. Its a £2.50 donation each - they leave it to you to put it in the tubs around the farm. Closed on a monday.

They're all so happy and helpful and loved us! 3 even said they didn't want us to leave! The staff at the accommodation/reception, are awful, rude and vile. Discriminating against disabled/trans people for some unknown reason! And making up lies about us. Fully grown adults lying, smirking and making snide comments about us while we're staying with them.We hired two wheelchairs and one of them was broken. Staff at the park promptly changed it for us. It did keep breaking, sadly. The accommodation was nice and somewhat clean. One of the kitchen cupboards was full of sticky stuff, there were moths and spiders everywhere, cob webs behind all of the bed headboards (we only found this because a spider ran down behind there and we had to shine our torches down to find it and seen all the cob webs behind the headboard) and cob webs all over the ceilings, stained carpets, dirty windows, including hand prints. The accommodation was immaculate last year.We stay in the same one every year and were surprised to find toilets and a TV this year! (We called to book). That was a lovely surprise, as struggling all the way to the toilets, was a nightmare before, with being disabled. Although, the "paths" weren't equipped for wheelchairs at all. They're full of gravel/stones, which makes it impossible to use wheelchairs on it and there's no other hire options for disabled people. I.e electric wheelchair/mobility scooter, etc.The evening entertainment was brilliant! As always! Mostly the same as last year, but was great! We love joining in, in all the entertainment at The Adventure Zone. Although, the play area closes way too early, as the children are bored, while the adults are playing Bingo, etc. it should be open until The Adventure Zone closes, as the children don't have anything to do after 8pm, except the arcades, which are NOT cashless and you can NOT use the Crealy cards, as advised by staff. We were told we could use them "anywhere" then later found out there were many places, you could not use them. Look up the definition of cashless, before claiming you're cashless. Every time we wanted to use money, at the cashless places, we had to queue up in a massive queue outside of the park, to top up! If we wanted cash, for the "CASHLESS" places, which were NOT cashless, we had to top a card up, then get a full refund from the card and put the remainder on a new card. It was a whole nightmare! Not to mention the queues. To be told "they can be used anywhere" when they cannot, is ridiculous! You need to elaborate! Again, look up the definition of cashless, before claiming you've gone cashless. We didn't find out until the end of the holiday, that there was another place we could top the cards up - Reception. There were still queues, but nobody told us any information whatsoever about all of this, until the end.Not everything's made for everyone, sadly.. the Hideaways, for example. They're not wheelchair accessible. Stones covering all the paths and roads.. it's a nightmare for walking on, let alone wheelchairs. However, the park is built perfectly for wheelchairs and electric chairs. We hired bedding for £50, which says it includes towels and We received one Hand towel (6 of us).. we do this every year and last year, we all had a towel each, plus hand towels and others! Everyone else had towels, but us.We were forced to purchase toilet roll, as, apparently, it's not provided in the Hideaways, yet, even in the tents, you get toilet roll in the toilets. We had one the first day and none after that. The one we had, ran out after a couple of hours. We asked for some at Reception and was told "do they not have any in the shop?".. we said "no, we've just been and asked and we were told they don't sell it". So, even the shop, doesn't have what we require!! One lovely member of staff, went out to her car to get some for us, so that was lovely of her to do! (My son was on the toilet at the time)The Fish and Chip shop in The Adventure Zone.. closes at 3:00-3:30 and doesn't open again! It used to open for people staying, as well as those who come for the day, but apparently, we're now forgotten about. We needed to get tea, for the children and the only options we had, were the expensive options. "Plenty of places to eat" they say, yet, half of the places are closed! The Waffle Shack wasn't open once when we were there. 8 whole days. Not enough outside chairs at the accommodation, considering it's a 6 person accommodation. There was one small table and four chairs, so we couldn't eat together outside Comfort is a pain, as there's nowhere comfortable to sit, yet, in the cheaper one (Safari) you get a sofa! Even the beds were awful! We woke up in pain, from them, every single morning! You can feel the springs in the mattresses. review too long.

Plenty of picnic areas, indoors and out - that's important if you're taking a few kids. The food is a tad pricey - like all amusement parks. I came in with a friend during a weekday afternoon and we felt like we were out of place not having a child with us, but I can see why this place was overtaken by kids. It is a great opportunity for them to learn more about animals and for the parents to take a little break while their kiddos are running around with others. Really all the visitors except us were parents with children. If childless like us, you can easily run through the whole place within 25 minutes while getting some cuddles in with bunnies and goats. You can be out within half an hour if you don't arrive around the time when they have some of their special program going on (such as milking a cow, brushing ponies etc.). We were not lucky enough to catch those but it still was nice to see the farm. However, I would not return for the price. I would definitely recommend this spot for parents or nannies that are looking for entertaining their children. Cheers!

The place is really…read moreadvertised well locally and on the net - so we went full of anticipation - and saved it till the last day of our hols as a finale. My son is mad on dinosaurs (show me a 6 yr old boy who isn't!!) and so he was really excited and hubby was intrigued to see the'Wolf man' Shaun Ellis who lived with and befriended the wolves and who does daily 'howling' shows at this venue. When we got there the parking was a nightmare and left us a long way to walk to get actually in to the park - which was fine that's Devon- but easily avoided with better planning. Strike one!! The dinosaurs consisted of about 5 models set in breathtaking realistic gardens - but they did nothing and the accompanying signs gave very little info of substance. Further round the park later we did find a small museum which had dinosaur fossils and eggs which was quite interesting, and a couple of amimatronic models which were reasonably entertaining - but not anywhere near enough to warrant calling the place a dinosaur park... strike two!! We looked carefully on the guides to find out what time the 'Shaun Ellis' talk begun and made our way there 15 mins early to get a good seat at the front.. only to find out that contrary to the posters and adverts Shaun was in fact not there but away filming in Poland!! Not happy bunnies - I felt really sorry for the lovely woman who had to do the talk in his place she really got some stick from the crowd - alot of who, had travelled a diatance and paid entrance fee really to see 'The wolfman' only. Strike three!! All this said it was still a generally good day out - the other wildlife on show was fascinating. The Meer cats especially were hilarious - and all the staff that handled the animals and gave the talks seemed both dedicate and knowledgeable. The highlight for me was the wallabies roaming wild that you could hand feed - gorgeous. There were various small scale kids rides which were ok, and amusements along with the usual cafes etc,.and an indoor section where you could do brass rubbings. The oriental gardens were also very beautiful. It was possible to go swimming with Sea Lions if you booked in advance - however we were unaware and had no kit with us. Sounds like it could be fun!? Over all I have given a 3 mainly due to the false advertising - I guess if you had stumbled across this place accidentally and had no expectations you may rate it higher. I would say more for younger children who will love the small animals.

Quite a few of the dinosaurs weren't working when we went, some of the vegetation was also overgrowing into the path. Japanese garden was quite a waste. Food was okay at the restaurant, they were missing quite a few items when we went and the wooden cutlery is ridiculous and easily broken. Overall good day out and kids would have fun. Unlikely to go again.

Entry prices are: 0-6 months Free 6-12 months £1.50 12 months and up £3.50. They also offer a 25% discount on your second paying child which I think is great. I would definitely recommend ugly bugs if you are looking for a cheap place to take the kids which isn't over stressful. A huge selling point for this place is that all the doors have a push button sensor which is very high up meaning your little ones can't escape.

We decided to visit on bank holiday Monday. It was a beautiful hot and sunny day which was a good start to our visit. We have a 1 year old little girl who absolutely loves animals and is used to visiting our local community farm in Windmill Hill. We struggled across the stoney forecourt with our pushchair and saw the sign on the door of the cafe asking us to go in to pay, the entrance fee was about £5 per adult. The lady who greeted me was friendly and cheerful and we spoke about the wonderful change in weather in true British style!! We spent about an hour wandering around the various animals, all the animals seemed to be healthy and happy and their living quarters were extremely spacious and clean, our favourites were the sheep, geese and wallabies, we even got to see a baby wallaby in its mother pouch, the information about the animals was very informative and easy to read with just the right amount of information. When we had finished looking at the animals we went and played in the park for a while, the swing for babies was really good and my little girl really enjoyed it, it was surprisingly quiet for a bank holiday Monday and we didn't have to queue to use the swing (we nearly always have to in our local park) Before we left we decided to sit down and have a drink and an ice cream, the ice cream was local and was absolutely delicious, it cost £4.90 for 2 cans and 2 tubs of ice cream which i think is pretty reasonable, So in summary for a nice 1/2 day out the Chew valley farm is definitely a good choice, the £5 entry price is OK considering that you get to see such a wide variety of animals but it does mean that I won't be visiting every week, not sure if they offer any kind of membership but I would probably be interested in it if it was available.

Possibly would have awarded this four stars if with younger children as it was aimed more at them. It was a little tame for the tastes of both hubby and my six year old son. I thought it was kind of charming - but perhaps not worth paying £12.00 a head for. The actual building is stunning from the outside and you cannot fault the views over the cove below. Inside the castle its been kitted out like a museum and is mostly home to toys, puppets, dolls and pier type animatronics and slot machines from yesteryear. Very interesting - but only enough to keep you occupied for an hour or so unles you are a fanatic. One whole room devoted to a large model railway- if you like that kind of thing. Also some grisly dungeons, and displays of old tools and farming appliances with some fairly educational information. Inside, and in fact then all the way around the park are amusement games and interactive displays which are made up from reconditioned old pier attractions. These are fascinating - but do be prepared with a ton of 1p- 10p coins to get them going - none of it is free! Outside there are a selection of childrens rides, again fairly traditional and slow paced - so more for the very young. Also there is gnome land which is bizarre, cute and disturbing in equal measures. There is a whole village of houses, pubs, etc,. where these gnomes live, and you can peer through the windows and observe them in their daily lives. Set in Woodland its very picturesque and mildly entertaining for adults - I am guessing young girls would enjoy this most. Hubby insists the gnomes were all models - but I am not sure!! Lots of traditional fun to be had also with crazy golf, a huge slide, and water fountains/ interactive displays. Not sure how you would fair in bad weather as most of the action was outside. If you prefer genteel and thought provoking rather than action-packed you may enjoy it here.

I found the prices fairly expensive as for a child over 14 years it is 12 pound so straight away that's 24 pound gone. My daughters got in for free so I suppose that was a good thing. My daughters favourite thing was when they were walking around part of the site where they had these little boxes where they had to press the button and when they did there favourite nursery rhymes played and little puppets inside moved. They were both racing to press the next one. They also enjoyed the water/light show I remember seeing this when I was younger. My favourite bit was watching them trying to find the golden nuggets amongst the sand. Other things that are at the site are: rides, tilting house for you to try and walk around in, old slot machines for you to play on, walk around the grounds, go through the gnome land and lots more, mini golf. Overall I would say this is a great place to go but I probably would only go there once a year.
