There was a famine in Cuba, thousands of people were trying to leave. Carter tried to make the States look like some sort of magnanimous good guy and said that of course the US would take any refugees from Cuba. Castro didn't want to lose face and agreed to let anyone who wanted to go leave. Thousands of people showed up to the docks and were taken over to Florida. Castro took this opportunity to empty the jails and mental hospitals onto the boats as well. More negotiating and blusterfucking, and Cuba took back some of the repeat offenders and patients, and now the US only gives automatic citizenship to Cubans who set foot on land. All refugees caught or rescued at sea are sent back to Cuba via Guantanamo. I don't remember where I heard he was from Cuba, but what he says starts to make some sort of weird sense when you put him into that context. He has also pointed to my friend's nose and claimed he saw the devil hanging off the end of it.

Hell all you can eat at THE ROYAL FORK was awesome plus Taco Tuesday @ either Amigo Taco or the famous Alki Tavern when I become of age to consume alcoholic beverages. And cruising Alki when you could legally cruise the beach back in the day. West Seattle has changed a lot but it's still a great area for those seeking a community close to the city. Fourteen people were bound, robbed and shot by three gunmen, 22-year-old Kwan Fai "Willie" Mak..... Background on Hotel & Club go farther back. The Louisa Hotel was built in 1909. Paul Woo purchased the building in 1963 for US$160,000. Both before and after that purchase, it functioned as a single room occupancy hotel (SRO) with street-level spaces for shops and restaurants until 1970, when tightened building codes led to the closure of the SRO portion. Two nightclubs operated illegally in the basement space of the hotel by the 1920s. The one in the western half, entered from Maynard Alley South, was originally named Blue Heaven. At its height, patrons of many ethnic backgrounds visited to partake in gambling, dancing and other forms of entertainment. By the 1950s, the club had been renamed to Wah Mee (華美; 'Beautiful China'), known for high-stakes gaming. The Wah Mee operated illegally, as contemporary local blue laws required clubs to close before midnight; it was raided by police in 1972. By the 1980s, the Wah Mee had gained a much seedier reputation as a dive bar.

Seattle Pride Parade is my favorite parade in the greater Seattle area. One might think it would…read morebe the Torchlight Parade, the biggest in the area. BUT the Pride parade is beyond joyful; it's fun, it's colorful, everyone is super happy in a no pressure kind of way. It's that one time of the year when the marginalized and the sidelined come out in droves to celebrate the LGBTQIA, which is lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (or questioning), intersex, and asexual (or allies). Fact is that there are still those who call them sinners and protest at the parade. Fact is that many live in an invisible bubble hiding their true self; the pride parade and pride festivals are the only times when they can come out dressed as who they are and embrace who they are. You know what, more power to them! Embrace love - love of all varieties. Call me an ally!

Seattle Pride Parade is the most loving/happy/accepting parade I've ever attended…read more The costumes were elaborate, the music was fun, the scene was amazing, there were churches, banks, clubs, children, animals, and more! It's a LONG parade (it started at 11 and ended around 4) but I'll be sure to go back every year.
