We had a blast checking out the alligators and wildlife along the Peace River. Our guide was very informative. Highly recommend!

Amazing adventure! We've done the Everglades tours and those are fun too this is just exploring a different ecosystem! Plus we've wanted to fossil hunt in the Peace River but the waters been too high, this allowed us to stop and find teeth on the shores of the river! We even saw plenty of gators!!! Our captains on the buggy and the airboat were amazing and we had such a blast! Would highly recommend and even do again!!!

Never Have I *Ever* seen so many alligators! What a fun trip! When our family visits it's always fun to do something "typically Florida!" We have gone on 3 different (and excellent) Airboat tours: 2 in the Myakka area and 1 along the east coast of Florida. Peace River Charters was the best yet as Captain Butch knew just where to go - and we had plenty of fun when he did the "Tokyo drift" along the river! Who knew alligators laid along tree limbs above the water? Who knew there was a temperature range in which alligators rest to digest their meals? And after the tour - where else could one safely hold young alligators? AND a gift shop with all things alligator! Peace River Charters isn't only Airboats - but also has super-tall buggy ridesi and playground equipment for young'uns to enjoy while waiting their tours

Bucket List!! check! We stepped outside the comfort zone. Mom and Dad 81 and a half, my older brother and sister in law and my 8 year old son. Easy drive from Venice. The staff at check in were wonderful, Captain Rick was outstanding. Getting us all and off the boat was stressful, Captain Rick was on it, stairs and all. The only thing I could think of to improve. just get some regular port-a-potties. They don't need to be cleaned, and there are no scary steps. Can't wait to do the shark tooth tour!

Tortoise in the Sanctuary

Our tour Guide Captain Buck was very personable. He made sure to slow down when we saw the alligators. Don't worry it wasn't a slow ride the whole time! This was the second time doing an airboat tour and this was by far the best experience. The animal sanctuary after our ride was awesome as well! The animals were active and the building was very clean and we got to hold a baby alligator! Definitely recommend Peace River Airboat Tours over some of the more commercialized ones, especially if you're wanting to actually see the Gators!!

This is our second time using Peace River Charters. Both experiences were wonderful! We did a swamp buggy tour and airboat tour. Our reservation was first thing in the morning- a perfect way to start the day!

Great trip lots to see very informative. Staff will definitely go again. The kids enjoyed holding the baby alligator.

Beware of false advertising on website prices. Below is a copy of a complaint I filed with the Florida Attorney General today. This is a claim for false or misleading advertising under Florida Statue Chapter 817 Section 44 (1). I viewed the website for Peace River Charters on Friday, October 15, 2021. The website clearly stated that Private half day airboat charter pricing started at $400 and to call to schedule. I called Peace River Charters at 863 444-0693 to book the charter. I spoke to a representative named Belinda who informed me that those reservations were booked by a manger named Jessica but that based on the schedule it appeared that the organization had a boat and captain available for our desired date (Sunday, October 17). A few hours later Belinda called back and quoted me a price of $800 for a half day charter. I mentioned that the website stated that the price for this charter started at $400. I was promptly informed that the "website was out of date" that "it was misleading" that "other customers had complained" and that the price on the website was "actually the price for a fishing charter (not an airboat charter)". I was told by Belinda that Peace River Charters does not book half day airboat tours for $400. I asked Belinda to have Jessica call me. Jessica called a few moments later. She told me that the airboat price was $200 per hour ($200X4 hours= $800) but was willing to discount the price to $150 per hour ($150X4 hours= $600). I told Jessica that I would pass the information along to our group but that I was disappointed. She apologized that the website was misleading, said that other customers have complained about the inaccurate pricing and had mentioned that she had previously notified the owner of the issue. I told her that we had done business with this corporation before and that we wanted to continue a healthy working relationship. She said the price on the website was not for an airboat charter and that the airboats command $200 per hour. I asked if there was any private four hour airboat charter that I could purchase on any date for $400 and she said no. I asked if anyone had recently paid $400 or less for a private half day airboat charter and her answer was no. She said the prices were inaccurate. I pointed her to Florida Statue 817.44 and told her the advertising on the website (by her and Belinda's own admission) was misleading and false. I asked her to have the owner to call me. A few minutes later the owner called back. He said the discount from $800 to $600 for the four hour trip was generous and seemed to think that the language in the advertising stating prices "start at $400" was enough to shield his company from liability. This assumption is false. The owner also stated that he did not violate the law because "I did not make a purchase" that "I simply saw an advertisement and called and received a much higher quote." This assertion is incorrect. A purchase is not required for violation of 817.44. The statue clearly says (in relevant part) that "It is unlawful to offer for sale... any service by placing or causing to be placed before the general public... an advertisement describing such... service... with the intent not to sell such services at the price at which it was represented in the advertisement..." 817.44 (2) further states (in relevant part) that "The failure to sell any article (service) or the refusal to sell (the service) at the price at which it was advertised to be available for purchase, shall create a rebuttable presumption of an intent to violate this section." In this case, Peace River Charters has advertised the starting price for a private half day (4 hour) airboat charter at $400. Yet two of their employees (Belinda and Jessica) have admitted that they will not sell this charter for this price. Further, they have refused to sell the service at the advertised price to myself (and to anyone else). Florida Statue 817.44 is a consumer protection law and I am a consumer. Peace River Charter (Belinda and Jessica) both admitted that they have received other complaints from other consumers about the misleading (or false) advertising on the website. Yet, they have failed to update the pricing or to discontinue the deceptive advertising practice. Peace River Charters has also violated Florida Statue 817.06 which states that "No person... with intent to offer or sell... a service offered by such person... directly or indirectly... to the public for sale... may knowingly or intentionally make, publish, disseminate, circulate or place before the public... in any way, an advertisement of any sort ... which contains any assertion, representation or statement which is untrue, deceptive, or misleading. The Peace Rivers Charter's Rate section on the website constiutes a published adertisement that is both deceptive and misleading. Violation of 817.06 is a second degree misdemeanor publishable by 60 days in jail and/or a $500 fine per violation.

This was such a fun excursion my two year old absolutely loved it! capt. Johnny was awesome! We got to hold a baby alligator before the tour which was a awesome experience for both myself and my daughter. The shop at check in had lots of themed toys , shark teeth and cold drinks you can take with you on the tour. If you're coming to see what Florida is all about I'd definitely recommend booking this charter .

Solomon's Castle - Solomon' s Castle

Solomon's Castle

Let me tell you about the time my wife casually turned a normal "drop our daughter off at college"…read moretrip into what felt like a deleted scene from a survival movie... destination: Solomon's Castle in the absolute middle of nowhere. And when I say nowhere, I mean NOWHERE. I'm driving waiting for streetlights... nothing. Gas stations? Nope. People? Questionable. Cows? Plenty. Motorcycles flying by like we accidentally entered a post-apocalyptic biker convention? Oh yeah. At this point, I'm looking at my wife like, Babé are we visiting a castle or auditioning for The Walking Dead: Florida Edition?" Then suddenly... BOOM. Out of nowhere... like a mirage built by a very creative pirate appears this shiny, aluminum-covered CASTLE. Now I'm confused. Because one minute I'm dodging cows... and the next minute I'm like: Did we just teleport to medieval times sponsored by Home Depot? But here's the thing this place is AMAZING. Inside? Pure genius. Art everywhere. Sculptures made out of stuff you probably threw away last week. It's like if creativity, humor, and a junkyard had a baby and that baby became a castle. And then there's the restaurant. Yes. A restaurant. Inside a boat. Inside a castle. In the middle of nowhere. At this point, I've stopped asking questions and just accepted that I'm in someone else's dream. If you want the backstory, go ahead and Google it because it's wild. But honestly, just go. Don't overthink it. Would I have ever planned this stop? Absolutely not. Did my wife once again prove she's the CEO of random but incredible detours? 100%. Final verdict: Unexpected Slightly suspicious drive in Completely worth it If you're ever near Ona, Florida--or even if you're not take the detour. Just make sure your gas tank is full... and maybe say a quick prayer once the streetlights disappear

This castle was built by Howard Solomon, a high school dropout, with his bare hands and his own designs with whatever scraps of metal he could find or that were donated to him by others. He had friends and neighbors who helped him build. He built vertically because his land was more narrow than wide. So there are stairs to climb. Everything including his unusual artwork inside the Castle was donated or built by Solomon. He also had a 1930s collection of cars and trucks that are displayed at the Castle. His personal story is very interesting which will be told during the tour. Visitors are not allowed to photograph the auto collection nor anything inside the Castle. There is no cell service/wifi there on the property. They do not use computers so everything is paid by cash: the tickets (we paid about $40 in cash for the castle tour and the classic car tour), the food, and souvenirs. They are dog-on-leash friendly, which is nice. The staff is very welcoming and fun to interact with! The tour is very interesting with funny jokes thrown in. Food is served on the boat and reviewers have been favorable about the meals offered. Remember, it is cash only. Parking is free and at the entrance before you get to the Castle. Wear comfortable shoes. I was happy that we got to do the tour. I don't know that I would go back because it is so out of the way but it was worth the trip.

(Mark also offers kayak-in trips as well) In my 11 year old's words, it was "the highlight of his vacation". Mark is an amazing tour guide, a wealth of knowledge, and an amazing personality. We had so much fun on this tour. We met up at a predetermined location in Arcadia, along with two other families, where Mark showed us a few examples of the types of fossils we would be finding and should be looking for. He was very specific that while there was a possibility of finding giant megladon teeth and other awesome finds, they would likely not be what we found that day. After the orientation, we drove about 15 minutes to our dig site. Mark provides the shovels and screens for our fossil digs. We spent 3-4 hours in a shallow river (3-4 ft deep) digging and screening for fossils. The kids' attention was kept for at least two hours before they started chasing minnows and playing in the river. Mark had the families in different areas of the river, and took turns with each group throughout the day to help identify our finds, and to give pointers on where to dig. In the end, we walked away with a few handfuls of fossils, most notably a prehistoric giant armadillo plate, and 4 small shark teeth. Mark is very knowledgeable, and gave us all quite an educational, yet fun experience. We enjoyed chatting with Mark, and learning about his adventures and finds. If you're even considering this trip, do it, I can't recommend it enough. A few tips: - bring a hearty lunch in a cooler, you'll be hungry when you break for lunch. Also bring cold drinks. - wear water shoes, or socks and an old pair of tennis shoes. There's lots of sand and gravel in the river, and they get stuck in sandal type shoes. -don't forget sunscreen! -bring a tube of hand sanitizer for mealtime -bring a change of clothes, you WILL get wet. I wore a swimsuit and shirt. -if you're interested in purchasing on of Mark's books, bring some extra money ($20 each) -don't be shy, ask questions
