The spa was clean and, despite a few annoying songs on the sound system, it was well-decorated. For the most part, this is a review of the therapist I had. A short, dark-haired Thai woman, I believe. I requested a Thai massage. When she said I was going to get a "combo", I worried about what this "combo" was, that it may cost more or be a circulatory massage, so I stated two more times I wanted just a Thai massage. Despite this, I would say the massage was about 45 minutes circulatory, and maybe 15 minutes Thai. She used a stinky Body Shop lotion, the kind with 30 ingredients that irritates sensitive skin. She combined this with I believe it was Vicks Vapor Rub. The massage was hurky-jerky, it left me more annoyed than relaxed, and none of the strokes were complete - most of the time I just didn't get it. When asked at the beginning of the treatment, I told her my problem areas were my hips and lower back first, then a little attention to my neck and feet would be nice. She focused on my neck and upper back for most of the session, with a small amount of time on my hips and lower back. And the pressure just wasn't deep enough, but when I asked her to go more deep she replied, "You want deep tissue?", which was another 10 or 15$. So I repeated, no, I want a Thai massage. For my feet she worked maybe one minute each while on my back and again while my front. Usually when I get a Thai Massage I leave feeling jelly and pain free (I often go to Thai Sabai or Swanya in LA). And by the way, I've been a massage therapist for over 10 years, am familiar with all modalities and have received 500+ massages. This one I would say is in my top 20 worst. Darn -especially while times are so tough- I'm still annoyed I wasted my money here! And I'm still needing a real massage! read more
