I had the two part nuclear stress test at Peace Arch this week. All staff that I encountered were professional and personable. I suffer from a chronic neurological disease causing 24 hrs pain and involuntary movement in my legs preventing me from sleep. In one week I got 16 hrs sleep over 2 days then 5 days no sleep. But 7hrs later and watching a little boy with a weak leg come in and take my position. WTF read more

On august 6th i began to feel extreme pain in my legs, buttocks, and lower back, to the point where i couldn't move without a wheelchair. My father drove me to the hospital and once we arrived they seated us in the waiting area, mind you i was still in extreme pain and these chairs had no cushion at all, i had two blankets underneath my body as i sat in the waiting room for 8 hours with them only giving me Tylenol and advil. Once we were finally brought to a room, the doctor walked in and asked me to stand to which i tried to stand but it was hard, i was wobbling and shaking in pain. The doctor did nothing but look at me and ask a few questions before telling me i had sciatica. We went home later that night, no x-rays, mri, nothing. he told me that it would be gone within a week, yet here i am three months later after going to countless er departments and physiotherapy, chiropractor, sports medicine doctors. after finally getting a mri and x-ray i was diagnosed with bertolottis syndrome and a fractured L5 in my spine. if you want to diagnose someone, at least run some tests, you cant just diagnose them with your eyes. read more

This review should be read with the forewarning that yes: the author knows that nobody likes to be at a hospital. With that being said, if even a choice, I'll always choose Peace Arch. Been here a total of four times in the last four years, two of which were visits for myself. None of the visits involved broken bones, so I have no idea how triage works for that, but, for the two concussions I've been in for, I was able to get in and out within four hours with MRI results provided by the doctor. I've been to other hospitals (out of respect, I won't list which ones) where the wait has been insane, no MRI was done to follow up on a severe concussion, the doctor forgets to communicate to the nurses after we've been discharged (so we end up staying for hours until we take initiative to check in), and all sorts of other mishaps. Needless to say, it's never been like that at Peace Arch. If you're feeling thrown off by how direct the nurses are, it's because they're trained to be direct and straight to the point. They want to get you the care you deserve, asap, so any anger you're feeling due to the fear of whatever has taken you to the hospital? Don't direct it at them. read more

If you or an elderly loved one have the misfortune to obtain an injury and have the misfortune of having to go to this hospital, be aware that they will only prescribe one pain killer, hyrdomorphone, even if you are allergic to it. We have had to hire an attorney to attempt to get my mother's pain killer changed after breaking her pelvis. She vomited up the medication because she is allergic to it. Thus the pain medication did not work. Yet they forced her to sit in a wheelchair for 1.5 hours staring at the wall and then charted "patient sat comfortably in wheelchair for 1.5 hours without pain" - designed to try to discharge her from the hospital because the family was trying to speak to the staff about the issue of her pain not being mitigated. The staff on 6 North are not only heartless, they are unprofessional and the doctor is fully ego based, caring nothing about the well being of her patients and only about what she perceives to be her power. read more

Once your get past the waiting period and into the actual care portion of the hospital they are phenomenal. Especially nurse mickey and nurse Pam. These two are "the example". Never in my life have I been checked in on that often and provided such a high level of care and empathy. Thank you to those two. Mickey was constantly answering my questions and jumping to my needs before I even asked. He was kind to all patients and staff not just me. Both were gentle and understanding. I hope they get to see this. You are both in the right profession. If you get the chance to ask for them, don't hesitate. read more

Multiple truly awful experiences at Peace Arch Emergency by both myself, my son, and local friends. Emergency room chronic pain management is consistently incompetent, grossly inadequate and hideously indifferent. Kidney stones: left in agony in an unheated (March) corridor for upwards of TEN hours. When I finally got to see a physician, she handed me two 3mg time-releasing hydromorphine capsules in a tiny brown envelope. I informed said doctor that this is my fifth kidney stone over a period of 35 years; that the pain is always excruciating, and these two pills "Will not come close to dealing with such agonizing pain." She ignored my information. She was silently indifferent. Disgraceful. Recently I fell gravely ill with a blocked gall bladder attack. In Emergency I was placed in a small two-bed room. The other bed was unoccupied until a few hours later, in the middle of the night, an enormously overweight male was brought in with a crane-like device needed to lower him onto the bed a few feet away from mine. This person had Covid; I was a fully vaccinated 77-year-old senior who had been living in isolation for two long, lonely years. I contracted Covid from this person 3 days later. This, despite the patient coughing like mad, in great distress, and verbally telling medical staff on several occasions, "I hope I do not spread whatever it is I have, to this patient right next to me." This was ignored, and worse still, not one doctor would acknowledge-or admit- what occurred. Utterly unacceptable. They have forced my hand into consulting with a medical malpractice attorney for reckless endangerment and abuse to list just two here. read more

I've been to Peace Arch Hospital about 15 times in the past four years, always for tests of one kind or another. So I've never been admitted as a patient, but I've spent a lot of time there to observe procedures, behavior, and attitude from staff. I have always been treated with professionalism, tact, good humour, and respect. My questions have been answered to my satisfaction, and if someone didn't have an answer, they went out of their way to find someone who did. A friend of mine died in this hospital, and the warmth accorded visitors was comforting and genuine. I simply cannot imagine the horror shows presented by a few other reviewers. The levels of callous disregard for pain and discomfort, incompetence, and lying they speak of are incomprehensible to me, based on my own complete satisfaction with the treatment I have received there. What's that about two sides to every story? . . . .Just sayin'............ read more

Moved to South Surrey in the midst of serious asthma trouble last spring. Rolled up at Peace Arch ER in extreme respiratory distress, dehydrated, flu symptoms. First doc treated dehydration, sent home with recommended over-the-counter remedy. Still really sick. Returned the next night. Longgggggg wait - unheard of for asthma at VGH. Was it punishment for showing up a second time or punishment for showing up in respiratory distress? Second much older doc admonished underling for not ordering chest X-ray. He ordered chest X-ray, blood work, etc. Surprise, surprise - pneumonia. Longggg night in bed in a crowded hall waiting for a room and antibiotic IV. Nurses, staff were great. Hospital visit was followed by a TOUGH shop for a local GP. GPs are now allowed to waste your time interviewing, cherry-picking clients. God help anyone with chronic illness. First guy failed to notice ongoing infection requiring new round antibiotics. New guy much better. Subsequent visit late March to ER with same respiratory distress, flu symptoms but no dehydration. This time, immediate blood work, chest X-ray, then .... nothing. X-ray guy sent me to the wrong wait room so no one called me. Wasted many more fruitless hours waiting to see doc, who gave me a blast of oxygen with prednisone plus script for four more days of prednisone. Worked pretty well until later that night, again extreme distress. There are clearly problems with ER intake staff and chain of command. Reception is not properly tracking patients before randomly signing us out of the system! X-ray guy sent me to the wrong wait area so I missed the call - or so they say. Not credible. Why didn't he know which waiting room? Or is this part of a plan to reduce ER visits by deliberately providing third-rate service plus runaround? Triage is dangerously unclear on protocols for respiratory distress. At least one Surrey hospital is under investigation for sending child home claiming he had flu, just needed Tylenol, fluids, rest. Kid died of pneumonia shortly after. How many others? Very concerned for Asian toddler who arrived during my wait with a bad cough, limp, clearly in urgent need of oxygen. Spouse waiting with me said toddler and family were sent home. Wtf. I include these observation to encourage ER patients to annoy reception, who are CLEARLY not property tracking patients. No penalty, either, for reminding Peace Arch that their respiratory distress protocol is wildly WILDLY different from that of Cadillac VGH. Improvement should NOT require litigation over wrongful death! Wake UP, ER. Be professionals. Gosh knows, we pay you more than amply. Desperately awaiting robot diagnosticians. Bring on the Second Machine Age. read more

If you're elderly and sick you're lucky if you come out of this hospital alive. Doctors refused to put my husband on life support stripping me of my legal right as my husband's representative. I took my 21 month old baby who had fractured her elbow. We checked in the hospital at 11:30 am and were told at 6 pm to go to Surrey Memorial as they had no cast for children. Would it not have made sense to give this information earlier. My daughter had no nap and was in pain the entire time. We reached home past 10 pm. For a child not to get service from 11:30 to 9 pm is deplorable. Peach Arch Hospital level of service is INHUMANE and BARBARIC. read more

Following a fall outside PAH yesterday, where my husband fractured his pelvis, he was taken to the ER and subsequently admitted. The nurses and paramedics who attended to him outside were magnificent and did everything they could to keep him comfortable. Thank you!!!! I'm not sure what transpired after that inside the ER, as I wasn't present, though they seemed to do all that they could. --The problem came later, after all procedures had been performed and the doctor had attended. He was then forgotten in the hallway, without being checked on for several hours. As a diabetic, and dialysis patient with pulmonary hypertension, now unable to move, he was offered no food, and when he started feeling unwell, realizing his oxygen had probably run out, he had to shout for help. Eventually his cries were heard.---- Furthermore, he was transferred to the second floor today, and then transferred by ambulance for dialysis this evening to Surrey Memorial, where he should be admitted, as they are better able to meet his medical needs.-----Now a helpless elderly man unable to move, today's nurses are treating him like nuisance every time he uses the call bell. What is going on!!! Has sympathy/empathy gone completely out the window? And why are you in the medical profession if it makes you so miserable? Due to his medical issues, my husband has spent months in various hospitals where we have on occasion encountered the same. It leaves much to be desired and is very disappointing, especially as no visitors are allowed, due to covid. He is therefore left to fend for himself, and will likely encounter further problems with skin breaking down, if they don't start shifting his position. We were told that air matresses are not available? Is this a fact or are they tooo lazy to get one? I'm willing to buy one myself and bring it in if that is the case. read more

I was in the ER with a broken arm on the little one, waiting for about 2 hours before we could get it casted. Generally the waits here are far less than at Surrey Memorial. I guess it was partially because it was a Saturday night. The folks here are very nice, though, and I like it because it's not a zoo. read more

Love how patients are left in hallways of stretchers and routinely forgotten. I was left in pain and on a stretcher for over 3 hours while I was told I couldn't have any medication yet. I had come in after some back surgery complications. I told the EMS drivers that I was having chest pain and it wasn't checked until after 8 hours in the hallway. Nurses have no qualms about punishing patients and like to spread around hate for patients that decide to challenge them to do their job! Don't go there! Keep driving! read more

I might have my hip replacement done at Peace Arch Hospital and I am trying to find out about my prospective discharge AFTER surgery and with very strict obligations about my movements in post-op daily living ! (sitting, sleeping position, dressing, bathing and being a passenger in a vehicle ) ! Got the hospital number from my doctor's office to contact the admission for all needed information.! Got nothing at all from the employee but to go back to inquire at "my doctor's" .! Is that what is to be expected as "care"..? So now lets inquire at the other place where my surgeon works.! read more

...[review continues here] Dad was happy to hear this and was happy he'd finally get something done even if it meant extending his life by just a few weeks or months. And my brother and his family returned to their home on the island satisfied that the misunderstanding had been straightened out. The next day, January 16th (2015), this same social worker was on the phone with me and sounded annoyed at me as she told me the hospital would not move dad over to Six-South (s she had told all of us she would have done). And she also said that dad would not be taken to a Long Tern Care Facility (as she had told us she would have done). And very quickly right after saying this to me, she asked me in a tone of voice which sound accusatory: "What do you think Tony, is preventing your dad from passing on. Do you not think that the only reason he is hanging on, is because of you and your brother [name of my brother]?!" I was stunned from these two questions. I found these questions very insensitive. I didn't know what to say, so I answered her, "Well, he doesn't own any cars or property, he only has $2,000 in the bank. So yes, I have to say he continues living and not 'pass on' as you say because of his family which he knows and loves. This is a very normal reason why a person likes to live!" But it was no use; she told me she wasn't going to help dad at all and that he is suffering and "has to go". So I told her that from Dec 29th to January 12th, for fourteen days, the Peace Arch Hospital would not tell us why they were letting dad get weaker and weaker, even when I and my brother asked every day! And that some nurses acted annoyed with us when we asked why dad wasn't hooked up to any monitoring equipment as he's getting weaker. And why no IV like normal hospital patients are on.And that no one had told us what dad had told them at the beginning around Dec 29th. And that the yesterday (Jan 15th) she had come in and heard directly our from dad tell her that he DOES want get better and that he DOES want any treatment to get better. And that she had just told all of us several times she'd have him moved over to Six-South and then to a Long Term Care Facility. To this, this social worker asked me why should our dad have ever been hooked up to any hospital monitoring equipment "...when there's nothing to monitor! There's nothing to monitor Tony. What are they going to monitor Tony!" I asked, "What are you talking about! He was walking when he came in, he's alive and he's breathing! He has a pulse, even now you can converse with him!" To this she gave me more insensitive comments, and I felt numb. So I hung up on her. So, I had to explain to our dad why the hospital had changed their minds in helping him get better and to not help him at all as they had told all of us they would do. And therefore they were not going to move him over to Six-South as the social worker had told him she would do. And they had also changed their minds to not even have him sent to Long Term Care Facility as the social worker had told all of us the hospital would do. Dad asked me why then, had the social worker told all of us, including him, they would definitely all of these things?? And he wanted to speak with this social worker to ask her why she'd hanged her minds. We wanted to know if she had lied to (all of) us or changed her mind. Either way, she had sounded angry and asked me insensitive questions I couldn't answer. January 19 was dad's last day he was fully conscious. It was sad to hear dad ask me to speak to some family members who had returned home on Jan 15 and weren't able to be there. His last day was January 22. He continues to be missed today. Yes, we know because of the serious condition he had been in, he probably would not be around today even if he had had treatments. But no one even tried. And we think we'd been lied to. Since then, we've received a letter from the hospital admitting their poor communication skills; their failure at communicating to us that dad had been classified as a Palliative Care patient for twelve days without our knowledge. However, we have never received an apology from the social worker who lied to all of us about saying that dad would get treatments to get better. Why tell all of us this if the hospital was never indented to help him? And I have asked the hospital for the social worker to explain to me the correct answer to her two questions: "What do you think Tony, is preventing your dad from passing on. Do you not think that the only reason he is hanging on, is because of you and your brother [name of brother]?!" I mean, what is the correct answer? Is the correct answer "yes he does" because we're all he has? Or is it "no, he likes to watch his favorite TV shows?" read more

This was my fist time visiting the ER of Peace Arch Hospital. I had a very serious medical emergency on the evening of June 7 and the triage staff were very efficient and friendly. I was initially treated by two nurses (did not catch their names) who informed me that they were helping Mickey who would be taking care of me. The two nurses had amazing bedside manners, started my medical treatment right away, ensured that I was aware of what was happening and kept the mood light which was much appreciated. As with his coworkers, Mickey did an amazing job. He also ensured I was always aware of what was happening and made sure I was comfortable during my six hour stay in the ER. Having experienced SMH and Richmond Hospital, I can honestly that the staff at Peace Arch Hospital are on a total different level. Keep up the great work! read more

Recently I was admitted to the Emergency Room at Peace Arch Hospital and was extremely impressed with the efficiency and friendliness of the staff, especially Nurse Mickey. I went to the emergency at 11pm due to extreme pain in my eye from some bleach product squirting into it from a dishwater pod - the pain was excruciating and I could not open either eye due to the pain - I was moved to 3 separate areas over a 3 to 4 hr period and on several occasions approached the nurses desk in the zone begging for some pain relief. The only thing offered was 2 Tylenol - as I had taken 2 very strong Tylenol before coming in I proceeded to tell them that it didn't touch the extreme pain - although I begged on several occasions for something for the pain nothing was offered as well as no one looked at my eye to see what damage was done - eventually someone put some numbing drop into my eye which immediately relieved the pain - this was not done ,however, because of my asking for pain relief it was done so that they could get my eye open in order to irrigate it - this about 3 to 4 hrs into my stay - the numbing drop wore off shortly after the irrigation and the pain came back full force - I begged them to put some more in so that I could continue to wait for the doctor to see me - they didn't do this , instead they put me in the eye examining room to continue waiting for the doctor - finally after about 5 hrs the doctor saw me - the burn was a good size across the cornea - I was sent home with some ung to put in the eye until I could see the opthomologist in the morning - I was not given any pain medication to get me thru until I could see the specialist. I don't understand why patients should be left in excruciating pain while waiting the many hours to see the doctor - I also was surprised that no one was concerned enough about a serious eye accident to even look at it until the doctor saw me 5 hrs later??? read more

THE WORST HOSPITAL IN ALL OF THE WORLD! I brought my partner to emerge who broke his finger. The triage nurse LYNN was absolutely OUTRAGEOUS!! Her behavior was so out of the ordinary it was almost hard to believe! My partner was sweating profusely and very nauseous(which he had explained many times to Lynn) due to pain and anxiety and she insisted he was overdosing??!! She also made a comment to my partner "UH GOD WHY ARE YOU SO SWEATY EW!!!!!" My jaw completely dropped in disbelief... And that's not all..... My partner stated he was feeling nauseous, and she grabbed a puke dish and very aggressively pushed it up onto his neck yelling "OH MY GOD DONT PUKE ON ME EW EW EW EWWWW!!!!!" Again, in disbelief and looking around at the other 10 people in the waiting room staring with their jaw dropped and eyes widened. Unbelievable........ We waited 8 hours in emerge for a broken knuckle bone, and were sent home with no indication of what the X-ray result was? And no pain medication. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AT THIS HOSPITAL. read more

I had to take my husband to the emergency as he was having trouble breathing as well as an intense cough that would not settle down. He was taken in immediately as it was so severe. Dr. Behboudi really took his time with all that was needed to assist with my husband's situation. Our nurse Heather as well as all staff members assisting with my husband were amazing. I have had four visits here over past 18 months t May 2015. I have had x-rays three times for various purposes and used the Lab for blood work twice. In all cases the wait times were less than 1/2 hour (mid days and mid week). Staff were consistently friendly and cheerful to me. It was not one off - it was consistent. So count me as a fan. read more

Worst ER ever!!! my daughter has had abdominal pain, nausea NYD, since 4:30 this morning, and this is her 2nd hospital today. She's been here since 12 noon ( now 6:30pm) and has yet to be seen by a doctor. She has waves of pain every twenty minutes that has her doubled over and nauseated! This is crazy- what's going on!!!! The triage nurse was rude to her, and when I asked the ER doctor if he would be seeing her- he said not MY patient!!! read more

My wife had a stroke and I called 911 within minutes of noticing her condition. Both the fire department and the ambulance paramedics were on their way as I was still on the phone. She had to be lifted onto a gurney and taken to Peace Arch Hospital. I followed and arrived a little later. She was already in a hospital bed in the ER being assessed and provided with excellent care by a number of nurses and interns. They got her a brain scan which indicated a leak on the left side of her brain. The doctors were carefully observing her vital signs and working on lowering her blood pressure and trying to reduce her nausea. She had another brain scan a few hours later to determine whether she should have to transferred to RCH. It had not increased or got worse. Apparently, they were already in contact with the neurosurgeons at RCH for their assessments of the scans. It was determined that she should be placed in the ICU unit at Peace Arch Hospital. While there she received very specific treatment for 4 days. During that time I observed a lot of improvement in her movements, speech and cognitive ability. She is now in the general ward and we are doing crosswords together. They are continuing to offer her special treatment and assessments in order to improve her ability to swallow, and getting out of bed,etc. All the nurses and doctors have been very efficient and kind to both her and me. I am so thankful that the staff at Peace Arch Hospital have saved her so that she can return to her former active life. read more

Peace arch doesn't even deserve one star. First my friend get jumps and they take so long for the ambulance to come that he dies from blood loss when his wounds were apparently save able. Then my friend has alcohol poisoning and they get her in the ambulance and just stay there in the car for 40 minutes, everyone in her family beats the god damn ambulance. Then my boyfriend goes on Christmas to get an X-ray for his broken hand and the wait is 6 hours so we leave so we can spend Christmas with our family , come back and the nurses just laugh in our faces at the fact that we left. And there's no fuckung free parking, machines don't take bills or debit only take coins and credit, so we had to park really far away and walk 10 minutes in the freezing cold when I have Goddamn pneumonia and that's not good for my health. This hospital is ridiculous. I've met some nice staff here but honestly they need to step the fuck up. read more
