For the past few months I've been hunting for a wooden box - and as luck would have it, Mr A spotted just what I was after in here, for a fiver. One quick visit later and it's on my fireplace. Most of the stock in here is kinda on the moderately priced side for a second hand shop, but it's worth a peruse.

I was in the area so made a point of calling in to see what stock they had in. It's not often that l see a modern well stocked & organised charity well this shop this one of those What did they have? There was rails of modern & vintage clothing with window displays that where thought out most items where vintage - retro & collectable small selection of jewellery in two display cabinets. There are shelves around the shop some had women's bags others had modern items but everything seemed like quality, there was no tacky ornaments or what l see as junk. Expensive? Well not really I've been to some charity shops and found others that I've been to very expensive and can source items that they sell cheaper brand new. The prices here where pretty good. I managed to pick up some collectable pint glasses at £1 each l also found a game controller for £4.99. This Bernardo's charity shop is a pretty good one and if you are looking for some good vintage items you would love this shop. Definitely be back.

I soon discovered their retro section, which is filled with gorgeous vintage gowns, coats, hats and scarves, all at amazing prices compared with city centre vintage vendors. My proud purchases include a coral pleated dress and a pretty, floaty floral summer dress, at a total of just £10 for both. Bargain! There is also a good selection of linens, tablecloths and blankets in here and there are probably plenty of bargains to be had if you have an eye for that sort of thing. A very lovely little charity shop that boasts much more than meets the eye.

The usual array of clothes, shoes and crockery greets you at the door, but at the back lies a small, but ever-increasing Retro section - no doubt to cater for the students flooding the Dennistoun area in recent years. The most recent result of my foraging in here was a Billy Connoly video, a Stereophonics video, a Chick Flick book and Jane Austen's Emma, all for £1.90! As ma maw says, where would you be going? You can't get cheaper anywhere and it's all for charity, so what's not to like??

How wrong I was. There is nothing else like the sense of satisfaction that comes from a lovely little charity shop find, and this certain Barnardo's shop is where my love affair with charity shops and vintage clothing began. One of Dennistoun's longest running charity shops, this is a great place to pick up some fashionable finds at a fraction of the high street price tag. As the number of students in the area has increased over the years, so has the quality of charity shop donations. Here you can find some clothing with character and some really great books (recipe and novel) from just £1. I still enjoy the big swirly donation box that spins your coins around before dropping them in, as I did when I was dragged here as a kid. Now I absolutely love charity shops, and this is one of high quality, albeit not always the cheapest, but for a very good cause.
