FAIL: When I got a student, I provided him with a clear description of what I wanted him to do (description below), yet several times he was unsure of what the simple instructions meant, so he had to call over his instructor. The sad thing is that the instructor was also fairly clueless. He keeps insisting on ignoring my instructions and doing only what he knows. My hair is naturally curly when the length is greater than 1.25 inches, yet he treated my hair like it was straight. It's appalling that students aren't properly taught the difference in curly vs. straight hair, so I'll never go back and tell everyone not to go here. FAIL: The student also decided to shorten my beard that naturally blends into my hair without asking me. I asked what he was doing without my consent and he said, "Oh, OK" Analysis: The students ARE CLEARLY NOT taught to keep their workspace clean, the difference between curly and straight hair, or that you should always ask the customer if the directions they're going in are right. My instructions: "Keep the top around ¾ to 1 inch to control the curl. Use scissors only on the sides -- don't shorten them, just remove bulk. Blend the sides into the top softly with scissors, no thinning shears."

I have thought about becoming a permanent cosmetic artist for a while but kept pushing it off. Well…read moreafter having a baby I knew I didn't want to go back to doing hair and standing on my feet for 10hour days. So I started searching microblading schools and I search alot of schools! FINALLY after a month of deciding I went with microblading Academy because I really did feel drawn to it and wanted to practice on the most models. Being a cosmetologist I knew that education was important but hands-on experience was the most important. Microblading Academy gave me that hands-on experience, I attended the San Diego class and had Josh and Jovi as my mentors. Josh was very upbeat with motivating me and really was helpful with being open to asking my questions, he also a hairstylist. He makes the practice Strokes look so easy!! He's a very sweet soul and when I doubted myself he reassured me. Jovi was very informative with helping me microblad my model and stood by my side to make sure I did a good job. I was nervous, usually things came easy to me and she made sure I felt comfortable with every stroke and color on the two models. She has a girl boss vibe that is continuously sweet. I got to practice on two models from start to finish and each model had comepltly opposite skin tones. I really appreciated working on two different skin types and brows.... it was very important to me that I got the most hands-on experience. During my class, I noticed a returning student coming in to sit inn for a refresher. That really stuck out to me that the company was nice enough to let the returning student sit in on the class again. In total the classes is 10 hours.. I recommend getting a great night sleep, don't lose sleep over being excited for the class like I did & (also being a new mommy did not help) just get your rest so you can be focused and Collective! The first part of the class, you are practicing on fake skin, going over stroke theory and asking questions. Second half is practicing on models. Of course it comes with a kit and also a theory booklet you can read when you return home. Upon returning home I had so much questions and excitement . Josh and Jovi where so nice to answer some questions the very next day. I do believe I will take the refresher class just so that I can feel more comfortable taking clients because just from posting my student work on social media I have had 6 people reach out to me for their eyebrows, I have never seen a response to a service so fast before! I cannot wait to keep practicing and becoming better with my Strokes. A good tip, Amazon sells practice skin! Go for it!! Our instructor, Michael Liganor is phenomenal and I kept thinking how blessed we were to have him. I told him I learned so much just on my first day of lectures. He definitely could get picked up to be a Medical Director or some other fancy title of a hospital but he was here.... With us! Blessed! The school makes it easy to sign up and get paperwork done. They also offer students of the school discounted classes so take advantage! Tiffany, Sun and Michael are super effective communicators and are very helpful and can answer all your questions about CNA, or any of the many classes they offer. TIP: if you can take the BLS class at the school it is cheaper.

Bit of a lash extension novice here! I honestly didn't even know this was a thing until this…read moresummer. As someone who's pretty much given up on self-applied false lashes, having individual lashes applied onto my natural ones sounded really promising and intriguing, especially to last for weeks. I had 2 weddings 2 weeks apart so figured it was the perfect opp to spurge. At the time I booked (early Oct), they had an end of summer promo for a full set at $99 - what a steal. It was with a particular lash artist (Sammie) - I learned there are different levels/prices of who you see. Honestly, the tiers, the paying vs getting a membership, the commitment to touch-ups during a certain time or the price basically gets close to another full set... it can turn into a money pit. In order to maintain the look - you are paying several hundreds a month. But if you don't bat an eye to that, all good. I can see why it cost so much as they are meticulously applying these individual lashes for over 2 hours for a full application. The attention to detail is crazy. As others stated, it's pretty relaxing...once I got over the initial eye muscle reaction to my eyes being taped shut. The end result was truly beautiful (see photo of me a day later preparing for my first wedding). I decided at the end of the visit to book a touch-up but two weeks put me right on the 2nd wedding so I was forced to book only a week and a few days, which felt kinda crappy to pay for a 2-week touchup early at $89, so I delayed it to be a bit after 2 weeks and was jumped up to the 3-week pricing at $108...I know I got a promo but paying more for the touch-up than the full-set was a hard pill to swallow. Then I did something stupid. Again, novice...and they don't exactly prompt you on any aftercare / avoidances. Well, I bake sourdough... I got to close to the 500 degree oven and destroyed most of my lashes in only like 3 days after that appointment. High heat will sear off and turn the lashes into split ends. I had no idea what happened when I finally saw myself in the mirror and called the next day to come in. They guarantee the lash work for a few days for a complimentary "fix appt" but when Sammie saw me so knew it was heat damage. So guess what? I had to pay for a "1-week touchup," she only had an hour and it was rushed. Not her fault, this was my fault and I paid another $79 plus tip for it only 3 days later. And so ended my lash extension life. I just let them all grow/fall out, which is a ugly process. This is setup for you becoming a lifer as you do look amazing. But you can see how it adds up. I think committing to the 6-month membership could be cool. Its an expensive up front cost. And you really want to be doing it BEFORE to get any service. You can't decided to get the membership after already booking a regular appoint. So definitely review their services ahead otherwise you'll be like me just throwing your credit card around like crazy, haha. End of story...they do good work here. Its pricey but thats just what this stuff costs. I like this KM location because it has a lot and plenty of parking. PS I didnt get any champagne offered to me..must be a member thing.
