I've spent over 2 grand on my dog the past 2 months because he is old, diabetic, and very arthritic. He's in a hospice type situation. As a Vet Tech who was, not too recently, out of the field, I can tell you that Veterinary hospitals who won't "act as a pharmacy" (meaning they won't sell the food without me paying for an exam as well) have money as their top concern and not animal welfare.

Unfortunately Lucy is a curious pup so we've had a few visits. Every time the Dr's and staff are AMAZING! They great us both with a smile, Lucy always gets lots of treats and the best treatment. They are very comforting when the visit is less than routine and never have a problem with the 18963 questions I always have. They've helped me gain confidence in clipping Lucys nails and all of her other hygiene procedures and they always make sure Lucys comfortable. The compassion is very apparent at this place and I really appreciate knowing that the staff loves what they do and who they work with. They moved into their new building recently and it really is a top quality establishment. It's nice that the Doctors invested in a space that makes their staff happy to go above and beyond. They were not allowing more than one person in with their animals and at one point we had to wait in the car. I know some might find that annoying but I appreciate that they are taking every step to make sure everyone is safe. SVAH will make you feel like family and we're happy we found them!

We had had an excellent vet in Hendersonville who retired. Turns out, Dr. B.Otto Sharp had interned with that now-retired vet! So, I, or my immediate family, has probably been to this practice 15 times since December! My trip today is worthy to note. My friend's 2 1/2 year old Grand Champion West Highland White Terrier delivered 2 puppies on Sunday night. One is robust and normal. The other, more like failure-to-thrive. The puppies will be 4 days old tonight. On Tuesday night, we started tube feeding the small one. We were concerned he might now have pneumonia from that. He had little strength. Was he neurologically all right? The staff at Swannanoa Valley Animal Hospital is exceptionally compassionate, kind, caring. Hope answered my phone call yesterday, when I cancelled a morning worked-in visit with Dr. Sharp. I said I did not need it. Concerned of course about taking a tiny puppy anywhere. Hope suggested I reschedule for this morning, to be worked-in, and call to cancel if not needed. I did take the mom and 2 puppies this morning. I requested that the mom not be allowed on the floor at any point, and that Dr. Sharp be the first one to handle the puppies. Taylor was the fine tech., then joined by Jessica. Kind, proficient. We had very good news from Dr.Sharp. He has supplied what my friend and I may need to care for this little puppy, who does not have pneumonia, and has a fighting chance. He's quite dehydrated, and D. Sharp directed subcutaneous fluids. This was done before my very eyes. My greater group of West Highland White Terriers has also been pleased with Dr. Howie. I have not yet met Dr. Scott. The clinic has such a calm, welcoming atmosphere--it puts both pets and owners at ease. We finally feel confident and comfortable knowing our dogs are in the best possible hands. We have a new puppy and have been around 3 times so far. We also have an adult male dog, and a cat that we are looking forward to bringing for their annuals when it's time. Out of the 3 times we've been so far, 2 of the times they've been 20-30 mins behind schedule. However, all times we've been it's around 4pm on a Friday so it makes sense why they'd be behind. We noticed one of our dogs were limping and had a swollen paw so I took him to Bonnie Brae. Being from out of state we were nervous to go to a different vet. They were so kind on the phone and immediately figured us into their busy schedule. The hospital makes you wait in your car and then call or text to check in. Once a room is available they bring you in. If you are not vaccinated they require you to wear a mask. Dr. Buchanan saw my dog and all my worries melted away. He is extremely intelligent and kind. He even got down on the ground and sat with my dog while he was checking his foot. I had lots of questions and he easily answered them. He gave me the information for an emergency after hours vet if needed as well. Overall the staff here is impeccable and truly want the best for your animal. They are all very friendly and eager to help.

This office was able to fit my animals in no problem. I brought them in and I was shocked at how well they were doing when picking them up. I've had pets done in the past and they were very groggy and out of it the rest of the night. The vet did a great job! The incisions were clean and smaller than I've ever seen. They had no bruising like some have had from other places. Plus they don't try to push other services on you. The stitches came out 2 weeks later and everything was great and it didn't take long to get it done, plus it was included with the procedure. I would highly recommend this office to bring your pets if you don't want to deal with a pushy office.
