I go into this pawn shop on the rare occasion to browse around. Though rarely to purchase anything as there is rarely anything worth purchasing. It's not exactly the most well kept and visually appealing pawn shop nor do they typically have anything of real value that's not overly outdated. Nonetheless desperate times,
I went in today to buy an Xbox one for my son. To fill one of his requests for a holiday gift. Now this pandemic has affected many of us, making it much more difficult to be able to provide the normal standard we try to uphold for our children. But out of desperation this pawn shop seems to be a last resort.
As I walk into the store I'm immediately greeted by a very rude and abrasive employee. He immediately begins to raise his voice as he tells me I need to wear a mask. Before I can even reply to inform him of a medical exemption he tells me that I need to get out of his store. I tried once again to inform him of my exemption he continued to tell me that unless I had papers to excuse me he would not serve me and I needed to exit his store. Now, I have pulmonary hypertension, which makes it very difficult for me to breathe in general. As I would prefer to wear a mask due to my higher risk of fatality from this virus my doctor suggested that if I'm going to be moving around a lot it is not recommended. Unfortunately, regardless of my many attempts to explain my situation without getting too personal (as I am not very comfortable revealing this type of information) this man begins to insult me calling me names and assuming my political affiliation. He threatens to remove me from his store if I do not leave. So I request contact information for someone with more authority than him. Hoping that I can get this resolved and purchase this gift for my son. He goes on to tell me that he is not allowed to give out that information and that I should leave now before he makes me. Adding on the the now physical threats. At this point I am beyond winded trying to explain myself and struggling so I decide to just leave.
This is not a store I would recommend in the first place. However this current interaction has only amplified my opinion. Unless you are as desperate as I was and willing to forgo a potential interaction like this, I would not suggest it. Especially if you have any sort of medical issues as they directly discriminate against us.
Also I contacted EZ pawn in Indianapolis and they will not refuse service even for people with medical issues. read more
