K9 Acres Off-Leash Dog Park - Pull up a chair in the shade and watch your pups tucker themselves out! Like your own giant backyard!

We Paid for the permit, read all the rules, waited patiently in the car for the training section, did everything by the book. My dogs not aggressive at all, they was excited to go and meet other dogs (I have two standard poodles a 3 year old and 1 year old). Then this old dude pulled up with his husky and mutt, he saw us getting out the car, my dogs was on leashed when he decided to let his aggressive dog out of the car off leashed and attack mine, drew blood! Caused a gash on her back. Incompetent, ignorant, irresponsible, illiterate human being caused pain to my dog! We will be back and I hope and pray I see him again so I can sue him for the damages he caused. I hope the city put that aggressive dog down before that dog cause serious injury! My dog now in shock and in pain. Sometimes it's not you, but other irresponsible people! Now we got a problem.

I looked up this dog park when I first I decided to move to the area and we immediately made it…read moreinto our personal backyard. It's a HUGE fenced in space, divided into three sections - training, small dogs, and general. Plenty of space to play together or branch off by yourself. There is a gravel path that goes around the entire play area where human parents usually just walk laps to keep up with their fur babies. I've noticed about as much forgotten/missed poops as I have at other parks, but the backdrop of this one is so soothing. It's tucked back in Squaw Creek Park by the driving range, surrounded by wild grass and a community garden plot. The park is maintained by CR Parks and K9COLA, which hosts small events at the parks every so often (Halloween treat hunts?!)

Ames Dog Park - Get your dog park permit for $45 at city hall like I did today! Worth every penny.

What it has: Double gates Two large dog sections (big/all and small) Water fountains (3 of them w/ multiple spouts) Benches Shade And all grass (except for walk ways) Parking is crazy easy One Port-o-potty in parking lot Provisions for composting dog waste ..... great dogs, great people! Rules are enforced between the people and animal control who show up within minutes. What I would fix. First front gate has a big gap and my dog got out on my second visit, second lock the gate between the small section and the large dog section. My dog almost got out and into the large dig section when I did not want to commit to 8 acres of time and fun. There is zero reason to not walk around if you want to switch sections, and double gates should always be in place before someone comes or goes. Comment. Where I'm front you have to get a dog license and go get it you prove you have current rabies vaccinations. Here you only do that to use the dog park. This leaves much of the city not covered for rabies, no income to that dept, and stress to dog park staff to enforce the required permit to use the park. If I were the city I would investigate how the majority of other parks do it. Amazing place! I was very pleased with it.

The trees provide good shade in the summer. And I love that there's even an option on this side of town. But this park is too small. They have a little bit of equipment in each yard plus a bench or two and a trail looping through the trees in the main yard. I never see water out there, but the waste bags are usually stocked. Be aware that you park at the Boyson Rd Cedar Trail trailhead and have to cross the bike path to get back to the dog park. This could be stressful for some dogs when traffic is higher in the summer. It's truly just not enjoyable for me or my dog if there's more than one or two other people in the main yard. More often than not, humans and dogs end up clustering and clogging right by the entrance. This tends to result in doggie shenanigans and not enough actual running and playing. I've noticed that the humans tend to be less attentive or responsive to their dogs too, making it extra unpleasant. (Akin to letting your human toddler punch and scream at other children in the park so you can be on your phone and blowing off their parents when they tell you to watch your kid.) With more spacious options to choose from, I don't bother with this park. Unless it's an off time of day, the crowds that come here are just not worth it.

Very small, and not much grass. Giant wood chips make it very difficult to pick up dog waste, and…read morethe trash receptacle (only saw one) is tiny. Nice fencing and large trees. Walked the path once which took about 2 minutes and my dog headed for the gate, which he never does at Cheyenne or K9 Acres. Lots of nice benches.
