I don't so none of that pertains to me. I stopped in for another purpose and found they have ATM machine as well. If you want cash back be prepared to spend $2.99 for a transaction to get cash back from the ATM machine. That said you have a pretty good variety of snacks. They also have some breakfast items and other items. A lot of smaller sized items like sour cream and other things that you might need at the last minute. The store is very clean and very well organized. It looks brand new inside like it should as it's just remodeled. I was fine with everything and would have given them 5 stars... except for one thing. What I'm about to share, I've more recently seen repeatedly at different businesses. I think it's something that needs to be brought forward. Our nation is no longer making pennies. There is not a system in place to compensate for the shortage. So what is happening with retail businesses is happening at The Liquor Barn as well. When the tax, (for instance my tax was four cents) requires a penny back to the customer the stores aren't carrying pennies. That could be because they're not available. But when ends up happening is the store keeps the extra penny. Now that might not seem like a lot and that might not seem like a problem for a lot of people. But if I was a penny short, what would they do for that? With lots and lots of customers coming through, probably not as many cash customers as debit or credit customers, those pennies add up. To me, if your total sale is this certain amount including tax and this amount of change and a business should have the capacity and the ability to give back the correct change. The problem right now is the nation hasn't adjusted the issue with pennies. So the stores are having to do that. Multiple times now, at different businesses, the person at the register does not refund the extra penny or pennies due to the customer and never says a word to the customer. They just say thank you and they let the customer walk out the door without the change they should be getting. It's ignored. That happened here. I asked where my change was. I had to call it out. I was told they didn't have it. Okay... if you don't have it.... Tell the customer! Don't just ignore it and hope it is not noticed. Because that is theft. I took back my nickel and searched for my own change because they didn't have any pennies. After I called it out he was going to just credit me the .04 cents and give me my nickel back. I didn't want that either. An honest sale is honest on both sides. It's a responsibility to carry pennies in your cash drawer. If you don't have them, put a note up that exact Pennie's are needed. Honestly goes both ways. I understand we have a shortage. But when this comes up, you don't just take the extra money close the drawer and don't tell your customer that you can't refund them the rest of the money that's due to them. It's not the amount. It's the principle. That's a problem at this place. I'm just warning you and I want to let you know to be watchful any place you go these days because this is happening a lot of places. We need to be consumers who are watchful of our money. Even a penny adds up overtime. This is a nice business in a small community. It's important to be honest if you want to establish trust with your customers. Outside of this I was happy with my transaction

My marinated tri-tips are better, in my opinion. But I went in a few days looking for a nice Porterhouse steak, and they had them! I purchased a 1.8 pound porterhouse and grilled it. They have a great kick start drink selection . The bananas are really good here. They are 50 cents and you get a good banana for the price. The Corner Stop Shop reminds me of the corner bodegas in Manhattan when I used to live NYC. The only thing different is that the store has yet to be packed to the ceiling with offerings as they just opened this week. Unfortunately the alcohol permit doesn't go through until the end of the month so I couldn't grab a six pack of my new fave chelada beer. The moment you walk in, there is a smiling face there to greet you and efficiently ring your purchases up. Awesome dance music plays in the background as you figure out what snack is going to ruin your diet. The owners are homegrown - they have been a part of the San Jose scene for years (as I understand it, they also run Spartan Gas on the outskirts of Japantown), which makes this place a legit. While I was in the store, there was a steady flow of traffic of folks who I could tell were construction workers, truckers, and other local industrial district "flavor." This small, local business knows what the hard working blue collar workers and Spartan fans want when they get the munchies between work and after a football game. The owners tell me that they're hoping to add in lottery tickets too, which I am excited about because that's the only way I'm gonna get rich in this economy. Might as well support this righteous establishment in the process. Swing on through to satisfy a snack craving, get some good service, rehydrate, or enjoy the bumping music. On the corner of 7th and Phelan, parking is plentiful. Any reason is a good reason to stop by the Corner Stop Shop.
