I hate to write this review because Dr. Wang himself is amazing. We saw him for almost 4 years, and he was thorough, sweet, personable, and always seemed to genuinely care about my babies. We grew to really like the medical assistant as well. She has a very thick accent and is very straightforward, but also very kind once you get to know her better. Unfortunately the front receptionist is extremely rude and caused us to switch pediatricians. My first son was born at Sutter and saw Dr. Wang for almost 4 years. He always had insurance through my husband who works for the federal government. Fast forward to 2021 and we had our second son, who was born at Kaiser (where my insurance was through) and immediately followed up with Dr. Wang after he was discharged. My youngest son saw Dr. Wang a handful of times over a couple months for shots and other visits. My husband's employer took a couple of months to process the paperwork to add my youngest son onto his insurance (go figure, it is the federal government). Dr. Wang's receptionist called us constantly asking us to add my son to our insurance so they could process the billing and I always told her the same thing - what my husbands employer was telling us - that it took up to three months for them to process the paperwork and as soon as it's processed, they would process and pay all outstanding bills. The receptionist began getting extremely nasty, telling us we couldn't come in for the shots my son was due for unless we paid all the outstanding bills out of our own pocket. She called constantly, weekly, maybe more, seriously stressing us out. I spent so much of my maternity leave calling my husband's HR dept, the insurance company, and the nasty receptionist who was downright rude. The thing that really upset me was that my oldest son was on the same insurance and all his bills were paid no problem, so she knew the insurance would be fine as soon as the paperwork was processed. This didn't deter her from being an absolute nightmare to speak and work with. Dr. Wang is a gem of a human. His staff unfortunately has caused us, along with many others according to these reviews, to switch providers. I can only hope he reads this Yelp and realize he needs to make some changes to his front office staff. read more

Dr. Paul Wang and his late father (Dr. Peter Wang) before him have treated my four kids for over 16 years. They have always been welcoming, willing to listen and available when we needed to schedule an appointment on short notice. Dr. Paul Wang is patient and thoughtful during examination and conservative with his treatments which we appreciate. I see negative comments regarding his staff, but I've never encountered any issues. His mother still works in his office. To some she might be hard to understand with a heavy Chinese accent, but she's kind, thorough and knowledgeable. The office is not fancy or high tech, but what matters the most to us is his treatment of our family. The primary sadness for us is that we are about to "age out" of pediatrics! I would never come back to this clinic again, this afternoon, I drove my daughter to go there for school admission health exam and tried to convert her foreign immunization records into California yellow card, but a very old nurse with weird accent refused to take her in, just because we are new immigrants (SSN is still underway), I said I was willing to pay cash, and she said no clinic would accept new patient without insurance during the pandemic, and she even suggested me to call every number in the phone book to find out if we are lucky to find one can take cash and new patient. I felt very offensive... I strongly don't recommend anybody to go visit this irresponsible and no compassion clinic. read more

I'm so torn about this office. I absolutely love Dr. Wang and his MA. They are kind, gentle people that clearly care about the children. The 2 of them are always quick with a smile and a lollipop. The shots are fast and they try the best they can to distract. They also are very accommodating and welcoming. The front desk woman is a completely different story. She is rude, unhelpful, the first to say no to obvious questions she is not educated enough to answer and disrespectful. Communication with the receptionists is TERRIBLE. She can't explain anything and nothing makes sense about what insurance they take. Also, they will drop you if you miss your first appointment- even if it was an emergency. So sad they treat parents this way. The dr himself is amazing, his office staff is something else. After a misunderstanding regarding a payment we were discharged as patients and when I asked to speak with the dr or a manager to figure it out I was told that wasn't how it worked and no one would be calling me back. Part of care is working through Misunderstandings. His staff is young and has zero customer service skills. Dr. Paul Wang is a great doctor who I would highly recommend to family & friends. His office staff? A whole other story. Olivia is the rudest office employee I have ever had to deal with. I have worked retail management customer service my entire career and would never speak to customers the way she spoke to me today. She definitely needs customer service & phone etiquette training. Her mistake should never be pushed onto a patient - especially a new mother. Because of her actions, I am still deciding if my two children will be returning to this office. Dr. Wang and his staff are ABSOLUTELY wonderful! I love love love this practice and frequently refer my friends looking for a pediatrician for their children to him! If he took adults I would switch over myself! My daughter and son have both went to him since they were in the hospital at their birth and we've been very pleased with his practice over the years. His staff always gets back to me quickly, and they always squeeze us in that day, if needed. I have never had the receptionist turn me away when my children were ill because Dr Wang is "too busy"- not once. I have had friends with horror stories about their dr being too booked or busy to see their young children, but never with Dr Wang! Even if he's got a full schedule, if your child is sick and needs to be seen, he will see you. I have called him over the years after-hours and have received his answering service and he calls back quickly and is always kind and understanding, even when I've woken him up or disturbed his dinner. He is patient and kind in all situations. Dr. Wang understands the importance of a mother's intuition, and he trusts what your gut with your kid, he never makes you feel silly or stupid for asking a question. My kids adore going to visit him, which says a LOT about his interaction with them! As for the previous reviewer referencing a receptionist named Tiffany, I have went to this doctor for over 6 years and they have had the same staff the entire time, and no Tiffany. Dr. Wang is awesome. We met him at the hospital after I delivered, we loved how he treated our daughter and asked if we could have him as her pediatrician. Of course he said yes. His office is a 30 minute drive from our house with tons of pediatricians around us to choose from, but we love his expertise and gentleness with our baby girl. Being first time parents we are very picky with any professional that will be around our daughter. My husband and I chose not to vaccinate our daughter and he did not pressure us into vaccinating which I found really surprising (in a good way). Most doctors would look at us like crazy people for choosing not to, but this is our child and our choice. Dr. Wang kindly said "ok we will see you in two months for her check up". Dr. Wang's office is like stepping back in time, but only in the best ways. It is a family practice in every sense of the word. He is an old-school one man practice (since his father, Dr. Peter Wang, passed away a few years ago), and his mother is one of his patient assistants. My son (born 2008) has been with Dr. Wang since birth. Dr. Paul Wang is an amazing doctor. He's younger (maybe early 40s) and very knowledgable. He gives it to you straight, and doesn't try to be over-cautious by doling out unneeded meds "just in case". But he also does not dismiss your concerns. He listens, gives you his knowledgeable perspective, then guides you in the decision-making process. He makes sure you have input in the process. Dr. Wang is also very caring. When my son had a medical condition arise earlier this year, Dr. Wang personally called me every three days to ensure my son was on-track for recovery. Whenever we have an after hours problem (though we try NOT to call after hours unless we need to!), his answering service has contacted him and he has personally called us within 15-30 minutes tops every time. For urgent same-day appointments, we have always been accommodated. The ONLY negative to his practice is the way the practice is run (the flip-side of the aforementioned old-school practice!). They have no email or online presence. No electronic access to your child's medical records, etc. The don't accept any form of electronic payment. I have had to mail in a check after EVERY single visit since 2008, as I never, ever remember to bring my dusty old checkbook! The last time I was in the waiting room, I heard a TYPEWRITER clacking!! Like I said, old-school. Luckily Dr. Wang isn't old-school, just the way his mother seems to run his practice. A few last things... There is usually a 5-30 minute wait to see Dr. Wang at appointment time, but since you always see him personally, this is understandable, and I will gladly live with a small wait. His mother is a doll and very sweet, but she has a heavy accent (Dr. Wang has no accent), so you just need to listen carefully to understand her sometimes. Not a big deal to me, but if you are hearing impaired (as my mother found out when accompanying me on a visit) it may take effort to comprehend what she is telling you. I am grateful that there are practices like Dr. Wang's still available in today's impersonal mega-practice era. I wish he saw adults too ;-). read more

It saddens me to leave such a terrible review about a Dr. who I have spoken so highly of since my children's birth. My three children who are 11,11, & 9 have all been in the care of Dr. Wang since birth and we originally crossed paths because he was the pediatrician making rounds at Mercy San Juan after the birth of my twins. I loved him from day one and was so happy to find that was accepting new patients. This review has nothing to do the the doctor himself and everything to do with his front desk staff! I will spare you the details and drama but can say that I am absolutely appalled by the treatment I have received by the receptionist and office manager! I have reached out numerous times to try and speak directly with the doctor about my concerns and have been denied any access whatsoever. I sit here and wonder if he has any idea how poorly his office staff is treating patients and parents? What a shame and how embarrassing for Dr. Wang. I called to be set up as a new patient for my little one and had some questions. Unfortunately, the young lady that answered rudely cut me off and was not helpful at all. Called back to get more info and another woman answered and seemed to care less and in a rush to hang up. It's very strange and I have never been treated so poorly by a medical office. Seems everyone has the same problem with front office staff and NOT the doctor. Dr. Wang is amazing. His mother, Mrs. Wang, works there with him. She is nice, but she has a very thick accent. I have the hardest time understanding accents, but here's the thing -- Dr. Wang himself doesn't have an accent and he does EVERYTHING. The only thing the nurses do is take temperatures and weight. Mrs. Wang seems to like to give some advice as well, but I know if I miss something, it doesn't really matter as Dr. Wang will go over everything with me anyway. Mrs. Wang's accent is the one complaint I hear the most, so wanted to address that first. She really is a sweet lady once you get to know her. There is sometimes a wait to be seen, but it is worth it as he never makes you feel rushed and will ask you if you have anymore questions. He explains things well, has a laid-back and gentle demeanor, and knows how to talk to kids. He gives the shots himself, he makes the phone calls himself, he is old-fashioned in doing things himself and really getting to know the kids and family. But, he is modern in that he is young, fresh and up to date. He is the best of both worlds. My husband has said, "If he were my doctor, I'd actually go to the doctor." I have called Dr. Wang on holidays, he calls me back himself in about 15 minutes. I have called and gotten in on Christmas Eve, where everything was fine, but he encouraged me to call anytime if I needed to, then called me on the day after Christmas to make sure everything was still fine. (I was a new mom and my 3 week old daughter sounded hoarse and I was a bit reactionary). He almost always follows up if I am extra worried about something. He is the best doctor I have ever seen. I know I can rely on him to be there whenever I need my kids' doctor's advice or help and that is so very reassuring. read more

I met Dr. Paul Wang at the hospital. I thought he was kind and my overall feeling was quite positive so I made a follow up appointment. His office was small and I couldn't understand 3 words per sentence the nurse was saying. Her accent was very hard to understand. She was not gentle with my baby when weighing him. I moved here from Texas 3 years ago and my two kids were born there. It has been 7 years so I have to re-learn newborn care and things are a bit different in California. My obgyn visits were delayed until 10 weeks whereas in Texas it is 6 weeks so for some reason I thought the first appt here was at 1 month and it was normal for CA. Mr. Wang was not kind. In fact, he was rather rude and made me feel like a terrible mother. My baby had lost 9 oz and is one month old. I am breastfeeding him and the questions directed at me were one right after another. He had me on edge and I was even stuttering I was so taken back. Example: It was time for my baby to eat and I said "It looks like he's hungry. Dr Wang asked what time he ate last. I said 12:30 and he said yeah its 3:00, no kidding. Earlier in the conversation he asked me how I was feeling him and I said both, pumping and breastfeeding.Later, he asked what type of formula I'm feeding him. I said I'm not giving him formula. He said I thought he said you were feeding him both. So I had to correct him. The way he approached me was as if I am purposefully harming my baby. Like he was trying to catch me in a lie. I came home crying and have thought of nothing since. I wanted to go back in there and confront him, but he had a waiting room full of patients and I waited for 30 minutes so I would have probably waited again. There was a mother and her baby out front because there weren't enough seats in their very small waiting room. read more

Dr. Wang is amazing. My son has been in his care since just after birth. He's been so warm, and comforting! Not only for my son, but also myself and his father. As first time parents, it can be very scary when something is wrong with your baby. Dr. Wang never made us feel like we were paranoid, or over-zealous. We love Dr. Wang. He has been amazing with our son. I gave birth at 11:15 at night and based on some of my friends references chose Dr. Wang to be my sons pediatrician without meeting him first. My husband said he heard the nurse talking to Dr. Wang right after I delivered and he was there at 6:00 am the next morning. I've had to call him after hours and he always calls me back himself. There is not an "on-call" doctor that I've ever talked to before. It makes me more at ease to talk to someone who actually knows my sons history. He is always very sweet and gentle with him. My son calls him Doc McStuffins and adores him. Doc Wang's mom is as sweet as can be. From experience with working with him, I know that Dr. Wang loves being a pediatrician. All of the parents always compliment how great he is and how much they love him. Sure the office is a little small, but that's how all of the offices in these buildings are. It shouldn't matter the size of the office, what people should be concentrating on is the way the office runs and how well Dr. Wang does his job. The front office works very hard while continuing to do the best they can, no matter the situation. And the nurse (Dr. Wang's mother) may have a thick asian accent but she's one of the people who practically started this practice so she deserves to be respected for how far she has brought this office. If I could give zero stars I would. My 6 year old son broke his arm and they refused to see him. We have had the same insurance for years and because of some mix up, they lost his file in the system and said he was not their patient. We called the insurance and confirmed that he was fully covered with this doctor. The rude front office staff said that they will clear it up but it will take a few days to get him back in the "system", which means my son would have to walk around for another week with a broken arm and no cast. I said I will pay cash, whatever it costs; I want my son to see his doctor and get help. "Sorry... we don't do that here." What kind of a doctor refuses to see an injured child who has just broken his arm? I called back and the front office answered the phone giggling and laughing. Completely unacceptable. Dr. Wang is the most compassionate; caring, honest Doctor I have ever met. I have had health problems myself for 15+years(half life) and never met a doctor that is remotely close to the caliber of doctor that Dr. Wang is.He has gone up and beyond from the moment we met him. Calling unannounced on his own time to follow up on our children's illness, multiple times. He answers any questions you may have; even answering brief maternity questions as my wife trusted his opinion much for then her delivering doctor. He is fantastic with our 3 yr old and newborn. He handles them as if they were his own. We recently were having to change our insurance and our priority of the policy change was to ensure our children got to stay within his practice. He is an independent doctor and the only physician that you will see. He has never cancelled or moved an appointment and has even fit our children in same day if he deems it necessary. If he is taking on new clients(I cannot believe he wouldn't be full) and you are looking for a pediatrician; I would recommend Dr. Wang without any hesitation and I say this knowing what great care your child will receive from him. He is a true rare gem in the ever changing medical world. I look forward the the years ahead and sleep much better having a diagnosis from his when our children have an illness.
