I was a little wary about calling Paul O'Brien Roofing after reading some mixed reviews on several " tradesmen " based testimonial sights however it seems most negative feedback reviews are from years ago and I can honestly say I am so pleased that I decided to give them a chance. Wayne the surveyor arrived in time ( to the minute) and was absolutely fantastic. I showed him the areas of ceil where water stains have appeared due to roof leaks. Wayne inspected the roof and then explained the problems he'd found and showed me photos he'd taken and gave me a very detailed report and options for the necessary repairs. after giving the go ahead a lovely girl from their office phoned me to arrange a date for the works. We needed some work done on our roof and saw them work on a nearby house and liked what we saw. After phoning them, a man came to the house and climbed up to check out the suspected trouble spots. One area we though we had problems with was fine and he explained why and showed me that work in that area was unnecessary (which impressed me since an unscrupulous person would have added this to the work just to get more money). He checked the main area, outlined what needed to be done, and we received a quote within 24 hours. The scaffolders set up the scaffolding a week in advance and everything was ready for the men when they came to do the work. All they asked for was 2 buckets of water and a socket to plug in an extension cord and they were finised in a few hours. They explained what was done and totally cleaned up any areas that got dirty both front and back of the house. I would be very happy to recommend their work to anyone who needs roofing done. They specialise in older buildings and have been doing work on various listed buildings in the Bristol area. And, they do commercial as well as residential sites. read more

Avoid at all costs! The scaffolding was a week late in being erected, the work itself was delayed three times, and now they won't take the scaffolding down. The job itself took a day and a half and the scaffolding has been here over a month and counting. They ignore emails, don't give any definitive dates if you call them and claim to contact you about changes when they haven't. Next time I will use a reputable firm!!! read more

They booked the work, erected the scaffolding and then called the day before the start date to postpone by another week. Leaving the scaffolding up concerned us for security reasons. They arrived for the 1st day but never showed up on the next. This went on for a week while I was calling in the morning and afternoon each day but never had a call returned. They then sent someone round who had no idea about the job (he hadn't seen the structural survey etc). I had to print that out and go over all the details again and waste more time. They then did a pretty poor job on the actual work and left filthy footprints all over the upstairs landing - even though we left the hoover out) and left, having returned the tiles badly (there is now daylight visible through the roof). They invoiced us and we decided to sit on it (as they had messed us about so much) but within a week, they called threatening to take us to court!! Clearly, their time is more precious than ours!! This week, months after we thought the job was over, the boarding they put up on the initial bit of work fell off and where they were supposed to have replaced it, they simply nailed some new stuff into the rotten wood!! I would absolutely never recommend these builders to anyone. In fact I proactively discourage people from contacting them. read more

Very disappointed with work they did a few years back. We wen't that impressed with the work or the workmen originally. But now I find that, whilst Paul O'Brien claimed that we were covered by an extended (10 year) warranty, in fact we are not. Paul O'Brien failed to file the necessary paperwork leaving us with an expensive problem and outside the more limited standard warranty period. read more

Absolutely appalling customer service. The work was so bad I had to pay somebody else to come and repair it. Avoid at all costs.

Worst company I've ever had to deal with. Late turning up (by 4 days) and never called. Then turned up for one day and failed to turn up the following 2. Again with no phone calls. Finally when the job was done they failed to pick up the scaffolding on 3 separate occasions. Again no phone calls. I complained and tried to get compensation. They refused. Finally they came onto my property through my back garage unannounced and took the scaffolding without saying anything. When I asked them who they were they gave me fake names, a fake company and fake phone number. Again I complained, again no compensation. They failed all over and were rude while doing it. Don't use them whatever you do. read more
