As of this review, Dr. Tan has 4.5 stars. That's a bit of a problem…read more Why? Because I can just about guarantee that anyone expecting a 4.5 star physician experience is going to be disappointed here. Dr. Tan has a small strip mall office with no staff. He collects blood by himself. He greets you at the door and charges your credit card. He texts you back personally on your cell phone. All of that is wonderful and I can fully appreciate the benefits of having an accessible physician. For that I grant him a few stars. Where this practice falls short is in organization and quality. The office is cluttered and dirty (well, probably because he has no staff to maintain it, but still). If you search his medical license with the state of California you will see that it was suspended at one point. Man did his time and got it back. Fine. I'm all for second chances. During our appointment, there was a solar eclipse. Dr. Tan went outside to observe the eclipse, looked directly at the sun with no protective eyewear, and recoiled, exclaiming "ahh, it burns! Don't do that!" This, I believe, is reflective of the office. Eager and charming, but quixotic and maybe hapless. I did not get the sense that I was being treated by a proficient professional up-to-date on the latest research and practices. That's something that's important to me. Thus I would not entrust my complete health and well-being to Dr. Tan, especially if I had anything complicated going on. But I would be happy to go here for a flu. The man will go out of his way to fit you in, and he will be happy you came to see him.

I found this urgent care facility about 2 years ago and my first experience was great. Not a long…read morewait and the doctor was empathetic and listened to my concerns. However, my last 3 visits to this location - two for urgent care and once for a general check up were not great and I will be looking elsewhere for care now. On my most recent visit, I had cold symptoms, was asked to wait outside and they tested me for Covid, which came out positive. I was told I could not be seen in person and someone would reach out that day to do a virtual appointment. I was never contacted and by the next day my symptoms had become more severe. I called the office again, spoke with the doctor and then the meds she called in were sent to the wrong pharmacy. In June, I came to quickcare for a high fever for over 5 days that I couldn't control and upper respiratory symptoms. The nurse taking my vitals used a forehead thermometer and said my temperature was normal. I knew that wasn't correct, she tested again with the same result. When I saw the doctor she was pretty dismissive and only agreed to a chest x-ray and breathing treatment after hearing me cough. While doing the breathing treatment, she came back in and saw that I physically did not look well. She retested my temperature (I asked her to) and I was nearly 103. She then was much kinder and I received proper treatment. In probably the worst experience, I came to their office for an overall health exam with their general practitioner. Essentially, I have a mental disorder that cause me to do some repetitive behaviors. I explained to the doctor and he asked me to hold out my hand and then he proceeded to slap it and told me to "not do that anymore." He did this again at the end of the visit. Overall, the wait times are minimal, however, you need to be ready to advocate for yourself and risk things being overlooked. I understand the medical industry is strained. I've worked in medical before myself. However, these behaviors and oversights can't be overlooked.

Within about 15 to 20 minutes I was done with all the preliminary paperwork as I was here for a physical and this was the first time seeing her as she was my new primary physician. It's a choice I'm sure I will not come to regret. The offices and different rooms were clean, well kept and super organized. She went ahead and did what a doctor has to do when giving a physical, set me up for a future date and four different referrals for varying preventative measures-and of course paperwork to get to a lab to have those tests done as well. Come to your doctor with details and questions, concerns about medications, family history and health goals, and realize that many of them on your side. (This info helps to weed out the bad practitioners, and after YEARS in her care, I believe Dr. Rieux is GOLDEN.)

The convenience is all for UCLA. They will charge you for an in-office visit. Additionally, if the video call is 5 minutes, they will also use a 20-29 minute in office visit code, which is their minimum charge per the billing rep. Potentially understandable if a semi-complex medical question and semi-complex medical files. That means if you have an HDHP that is $500 for a 5min phone call to ask if a common medication may be right for you. I emailed to ask for advice and they say, oh ok, let's get a video appointment. Did I know I will be charged? Yes. Did I think it would be more like $200? Yes. Was it? No. No matter how many times I asked them if this was correct after I got the bill. Did I pay it? Unfortunately, yes. Lesson learned and hopefully this review is a lesson for UCLA office to make it very clear to advise patients that a Video Visit will be charged as an in-office visit. At least offer the cheaper phone call consult. Also, 500 for an in office visit is also exorbitant. Anyways... PS. Also, beware of hidden charges for an annual visit. They tried to charge $100 for a portion of the annual screening that should havr been covered under preventive care or something they did not do (extra consultation). They force you to spend an hour with billing to get them to waive it and you have to research and explain why they made a mistake.
