This is the place to visit…read more Oddly enough, right next the the Westside BMW dealership (they share parking) and smack bang in the middle of Darra's industrial area, this place has been around since I've been in Brisbane. There is a crazy range of bromeliads (a whole tent full) and overhanging, underhanging and side hanging plants to choose from, there's a wider range of hedge plants, flowering plants and a pretty good range of fruit trees as well (these will set you back about $30). There is also a restaurant called Verdant which serve a pretty good salmon main and the service is pretty good. The coffee's aren't bad as well, but it would be an idea to book as it does get pretty busy. What I love about this place is the giftshop. It isn't just a gift shop that sells the weird stuff you put in your house and garden, it is an excellent place to shop for gifts or whatnot for your kids as well. It has a pretty decent kids section, where there are cute baby onesies with crazy logos on them, kiddie gardening gloves, kiddie cook books, book dividers, very cute bath toys, and stuffed toys. Even kiddie books! Such a good array, you will always find something here for your green thumbed little man or lady. Make them assist you in the garden with style! On the flipside, I also bought a $5 outside broom here from Italy, great broom, still have it! The plants here are a little dearer than your cornerstore garden centre, but they have a pretty wide range as well.

Garden Way is a lovely, peaceful place that provides all those things, and I suppose it can thank it's out of the way location for the lack of crowds. The location does mean most Brisbanites would only go there when that's the sole purpose of their trip, but the good news is you can kill a lot of time here so it's worth the drive. The homewares part is really beautiful, with gorgeous decor, divine smelling moisturisers and various little bits and pieces. The nursery is not quite as big as some of the others in Brisbane, but it is decent enough with a good range of plants, pots of all shapes and sizes, and decorative features for the garden. The restaurant section is nestled in between the nursery and the homewares section, and they serve delicious and unique quality meals, drinks and desserts. This is a place I often visit with the numerous generations of females in my family, for a bit of a wistful shop and a tasty meal.

You might think that such convenience would come at a price, but from my own experience the prices are competitive with the mega hardwares. This garden centre is heaven for newbie or season gardeners with plants for all occasions within. We were easily able to seek advice from the staff about the condition of our Fiddle Leaf Fig and purchase pots, fertiliser and all other contraptions to give it a new lease on life. They even had a Monstera (google Swiss Cheese Plant) which I've been hunting for quite some time. The prices are not too dissimilar to Bunnings but the quality appears to be higher and the service received was easily over and above what I've experienced at other garden centres. You'll be drawn in like a bee to pollen. Outside of being an extremely pretty nursery, it's also got some very cool plants that are considered a bit of a rare find in these metropolitan parts. Amid their fruit and veggie section was a small pineapple plant. Now, I'm a bit of a gardening nut, and I haven't seen any pineapple plants for sale anywhere in Brisbane. When asking the owner as to why this is the case, he replied with "well, I guess it's just easy to buy a pineapple from the store, and then if you want another pineapple, you can just cut off it's head and put it in the ground, and it'll grow. There's no real need to sell them as plants". But he still does, and I think it's great. He's also got infant versions of iconic trees like white jacarandas and yellow flame trees. Rosalie Village Garden is so crammed with plants it looks a bit like a jungle. If you can find the owner through the greenery, just ask him what you're looking for, because he's far better equipped to help you out in an efficient manner. Even if you're not a green thumb, I'm sure most people would appreciate this tucked away humble little haven on an otherwise high end cosmopolitan strip.

There is something very homely about this gardening nursery. Without sounding too corny, the plants look happy and alive here. Although it may not be very large, there is a large selection of plants here. I am not an expert in gardening but from what I noticed there was a good range of flower pots, herbs, vegetable gardening equipment and garden decorations. It would be easy for a place so small with such a range to become cluttered but surprisingly everything the place is well organised. At the moment, they have really cute small sized Xmas (pine) trees which are an excellent size for many of the homes in the area since Rosalie has many apartment buildings. 'Rosalie Village Garden' is the answers to anyone with a green thumb living who do not want to drive 20-30 minutes outbound to buy their plants and gardening goods.

But this little pet food store is well worth the visit. Although I probably would enjoy the smells of roast chicken over the whiffy dog food smells, I'm sure Fido would disagree. Pet Food Today sells a lot of Kangaroo pet treats, which is both nutritious for your pet and low in fat. There are also lots of beef , pork and chicken treats. The store is owned by a lovely couple who seem to know everything under the sun about pet food and what's best for you dog. Be sure to ask their advice for what is best for your pet, they will talk your ear off! It's also extremely affordable - a bag full of cartilage pieces (that are like a pig's ear, which dog's can't seem to get enough of) for only $3 and a bag full of various treats (including jerky meat and Roo tendons) for $4.50. This will keep a small-medium sized dog happy for weeks. All the jerky meats are air dried, with no salt or anything bad for your pet. Their signature product is BARF - a natural dog food that is "Biologically Appropriate Raw Food". Pick some up for your puppy and he'll be happy to eat BARF! You can also order the products on their website if you can't make it to the shop.

You don't have to be a gardener to enjoy this place. Yes, they have a lot of bargain plants for sale but it's just like visiting a botanical garden. The plants are not your standard garden centre range but are cultivated exoticas - once I even saw a thousand dollar Gingko Biloba tree! The owners are clearly artists because they have giant ceramic sculptures incorporated into the landscape. Some are kitschy, some are a bit naughty but all show the owners have a sense of humour. And just when you think things can't get any odder, you run into their collection of beautiful pheasants. I told my sister about this place and she took her two kids. My nephew had a ball running around the maze like set up, weaving between trees, ducking under giant ferns, not knowing what plant, animal or sculpture will pop up around the corner. I could spend hours exploring this place and the owners are so good natured, they probably wouldn't mind. NB: This nursery is a bit hard to find. There is a sign on Beaudesert Road but it comes up very quickly so you may find yourself doing several u-turns. There's plenty of parking on site though once you eventually find it.

No question is too dumb and their advise is based on years of experience.....they can show you their results e.g. lotus plants which I have killed MANY...now flowering and strong and healthy. I recently took a friend from interstate to the "quirky nursery" and with over 30 years of running an orchard, working in a nursery and cultivating all sorts of amazing plants herself), she loved TempleX . She was excited to find such a huge variety of plants (some she had not seen for years) and found the owners to be very open and lovely people. Other friends (more local) have also found the place to be a treasure and not one negative comment! I just wish they had a coffee shop are there are some lovely spots to sit. This venue is ideal for children too with fish, poultry and lots of trees. There is also a snake story, and the owners are very good with visiting children. But one of the big attractions is the funky art ...odd bits of driftwood, statues and plants have been turned into art! Great place and take your friends too, they'll love it!

They have hermit crabs!!! They have hermit crab and bug set ups (even more than the other pet stores)!! They even have cool (healthy looking) guppy fish. Oh and chickens!!! They have a chicken coup with little chicks you can buy and raise so you can have your own fresh eggs for those who like to pretend you are farm-living-city-dwelling folk. Not many of you out there, but you know who you are! "I have chickens" is not a good ice breaker at a party, but there is enough interest to make you sound a little bit above normal, and possibly cool. Who am I kidding, i just want to pat those little suckers forever. But sadly, we all know they poo. And it takes a lot of effort and responsibility to raise these chicks into mature chickens to cook or lay eggs. Staff here are friendly and happy to babble with you about whatever strange habit and animal you have, which is a good thing in a pet store. The store is spacious, clean and organised, I'll be back for more bones for my dog.
