They all have a similar "no nonsense" attitude, and they want you to succeed. I lost 170 lbs with my sleeve after my surgery almost 3 years ago, and have been in maintenance for about a year and a half. The center gives you all the post-op success tools you could possibly need - including weekly support groups whenever you need them and post-op visits for a year. When I started seeing Barry as I stated before I didn't know what to expect. I have still seen him almost weekly since my first review. He has helped me through loss, family issues, personal anxieties, as well as the stress of a wedding!! He was there prior to the proposal through the planning and even was a guest at the wedding. The days where I felt like I couldn't even bear it, I'd find myself calling him and asking him to fit me in which he always did. He got me to this point. Happily married now almost two weeks with the tips and methods to keep me calm through everything. He is without a doubt someone who I couldn't thank enough. The best part is that now when I am panicked I can imagine our sessions. For example, I am not a fan of the ocean. The other day my husband and I agreed to snorkel even though I was terrified. I could feel my heart racing my breathing as well. I was struggling in the water not enjoying any moment of it. I took a minute and used the techniques he taught me to calm myself down. When I opened my eyes everything had changed. I was calm. I was able to stop and appreciate all the beauty I was seeing. Even if you go for 5 sessions, it's something you take with you. I owe him a lot and trust me even two years later I plan to continue this journey with him helping make my life and my mind a better version of me than I ever thought possible! Barry took the time to set expectations. We discussed my issues and he had some really insightful advice. Afterwards we did a hypnosis session. It was very thought provoking and I thought about the exercise for days after. That's pretty much how each session goes. I went for weight loss. I started at 245 lbs and am now 208 lbs. That pretty much speaks for itself. Barry is amazing and I would highly recommend him to anyone and everyone. It's absolutely worth every penny!! And the best part? The NP who visited with me was rushed and not helpful. At the end of the appointment, I left knowing no more about the procedure than what I had already learned from the information on their website and the research I had done myself on the internet and by talking with others who have had the procedure. No medical treatment was provided during the consultation other than a weigh-in and a blood pressure reading with an electronic cuff. The NP also told me that I could expect to lose about 70 pounds with constant exercise and strict dietary guidelines. This was a weight-loss I knew I could expect to have without the surgical procedure, so I decided not to proceed with surgical treatment. I received a bill for their "services" about a month later. This bill was for the full amount of the visit ($311). They had billed my insurance for "obesity" treatment, which my insurance does not cover. I attempted to call their billing office twice. The first time I called I was on hold for 45 minutes, during which time no one picked up the phone. The second time, I remained on hold for over 20 minutes before I gave up. I called the doctors' office and spoke to someone (Donna?) who handles their billing. I explained my situation, emphasized that I was not proceeding with treatment, and asked if there was some way that my bill could be reduced. She said that there was nothing she could do and told me to call my insurance company (which I had already done). I then mailed a letter to both the doctors' office and the billing company asking them to please code my visit as diabetes treatment, which my insurance will pay for. I received no response, only another bill. So I called the office again, and spoke with the office manager. She agreed to talk to the NP about recoding my visit and resubmitting my claim to my insurance company. She told me she would return my call with a resolution by the end of the next day of business. Over a week later, I still have not received a return call. If you choose to have bariatric surgery, and you want a caring, responsive medical team, don't go to this office.

From the beginning, the level of care has been exceptional. Every representative I've spoken to has treated me with the absolute best care from the ER to billing and every department in between. The consistency of professionalism and compassion across the board has truly stood out. During my stay in the Round Wing over the Christmas holiday on the 6th floor, my main nurses were absolutely amazing. They were attentive, compassionate, and went above and beyond during a very difficult time. Even when I had a small issue, it was handled quickly and professionally the supervisor had it addressed by the next morning without hesitation. That level of responsiveness and patient-centered care made a lasting impression. Every department I've interacted with has been organized, knowledgeable, and committed to doing things right. I'm grateful for the continued care I've received and will continue making the 2-hour drive each way to be treated at Vanderbilt because of the trust I have in their teams and the quality of care they provide.
