This place is poorly managed and run. We were just there on a weekday afternoon to get rice. They had blocked the aisle that has the rice with a large pallet on one side in a way that we could not access the rice. We walked around to the other side to get rice. One of their employees snapped his fingers at us from behind and yelled "ehh ehhh get out GET OUT" and made us get out and blocked the other side with another large pallet. I asked how we can access the rice? He looked right at me and completely ignored me. I asked to speak to the manager. Cashier pointed out the guy that was the manager. When I went to talk to him, the "Manager" looked at the floor the entire time I talked to him, did not apologize and just said 'yea yea yea". Zero eye contact, zero acknowledgement that they are blocking off access to entire aisles full of rice and flour in the MIDDLE OF THE DAY when the store is OPEN FOR BUSINESS. Zero question on what it is that I am looking for, zero offer to help me grab the rice I wanted. Beyond extremely rude. Wow. Do better. Patidar is MUCH BETTER service as is the Star Bazaar in Somerset. I buy several hundred dollars worth of Indian groceries every month. This place just lost my business. read more

First timer . Just like Costco or Walmart , Patel shops look almost similar in different locations , which makes it easy to search for products . It's almost a replica of Edison patels. Nice and fresh chapatis, theplas etc etc. veggies are fresh and good. Almost have all Indian groceries. Sweets, dahi, juices etc. billing could be better , but u can't expect much than this .. parking is crazy . Overall a good experience.. read more

For a long while, Patel Cash and Carry was the only Indian grocery store in the area. With the South Asian population rapidly growing in the 2000s, one Indian grocery store wasn't enough. A second store - Patidar opened up in the past decade. While many may outright jump ship from here to there, others - like my family - find the benefit of visiting both grocery stores. You'll now understand why. For one, the inventory at Patel Cash and Carry is sometimes different than at Patidar. One good example is that you won't find the Swab Bombay Sandwich Spread at Patidar, but you'll find it at Patel. Same can be the case for certain veggies and fruits, where it may be better at one store over the other. Sometimes, that is simply due to the batch. In the last year or two, this grocery store did a slight remodel where it opened up the right side section a bit (the area where you pick up the veggies, garnishes, fruits, etc.) One nice addition is a kitchen in the back right corner. There you can pick up fresh roti, refreshments, and samosas. These are the big, restaurant-style samosas. I highly recommend them, but mainly the original one (wasn't a huge fan of the paneer samosas or other variations). My family still prefers Patidar mainly because of familiarity of items in the aisles and it's less congested. Patel can get quite congested in the aisles as that's also where you end up staying in line. In COVID-19 times, that isn't always ideal. Second issue sometimes is trying to find parking here, but that's another story. But if you're looking to buy groceries, this may be a place to consider (along with Patidar). read more

With super-fresh produce, affordable prices, and specialty products, Patel's Cash & Carry is one of my first stops for groceries. I can always get fresh spinach, green beans, fruit, and the cheapest milk around. They also obviously carry a large range of spices, bulk nuts, special flours, and spice mixes. My favorite canned mango purees and juices come from here. Frozen chiken tikka masala, paneer, ghee, and kulfi too! I can always pick up enough basics for my kitchen here, so don't let the name keep you from checking things out. While the location may not be as shrink wrapped and neat at the Stop and Shop down the street, I'm going to tell you its because we don't WANT it that way. I WANT the ability to pick the best green beans instead of picking up a pre-wrapped bag. I WANT to snap off the freshest knobs of ginger and be able to smell my apples. I haven't had issues with expiring pre-packaged food, but I will admit I don't buy it often. Don't forget to buy a small fresh samosa for snacking as you pack groceries on your way out. read more

We have been shopping at this place for ~10 years and generally we have had good experience but lately over the last 6 months to an year we have not been happy with shopping here. Main reason - freshness of vegetables is not same as before . To the point that even the tomatoes sometimes are mushy and we think that they "freeze" or store the tomatoes in very cold temperature. - service is also not same as before. Before if veggies were not good on the table, if we asked them to bring better ones they would now couple of times I got an answer that all the ones at the back are the same I wonder if they have lost their mission and just trying to make money rather than provide fresh produce to their customers Hence, now we have started shopping at the Patel brothers in East Windsor (Rt 571) read more

I just wanted to share with you all a problem that I faced today here. Today at Patels Cash and Carry store in North Brunswick, NJ, I saw a store personal punching holes in all the plastic bags containing various food items. When I asked him to not do it, he said that they do it to increase storage space. His supervisor then asked him to not do it. After coming back home, I called the store owner/manager, Mr. Paresh. Instead of accepting his mistake, he argued giving the same reason of extending storage. When told that it's not right, he told me to do whatever I can do. So far I have lodged a complaint with FDA but I think it will help if more and more consumers call and tell him that it's not an ethical practice. His number is +1(732)-821-0667 One more complaint is that they shut down/slowdown the refrigerator cooling system during summer to save on electricity bill. I joined one of my friends on a shopping to Patel's Cash and Carry and I gotta say, if you're looking for ethnic supermarkets, this place is really fun :) As usual, they have a wide assortment of produce and their selection of curries, beans, and rices can't be beat... at least I don't think they can. While I can't pronounce half the things I saw there, I did manage to snag myself some great snack mix (Madras Mix) Its kinda like Indian Chex Mix but with spices and stuff... mmmmmm... Dirt cheap too! I think a 1 pound bag came out to be $2 or something. I also managed to get myself some sohanpapdi (I think thats what it was called) which basically tastes like dried condensed milk... I believe I got something else but I can't remember at the moment... all in all, fun place to visit if you're looking for things you've probably never seen before. read more

Consistency is the name of the game when your game is fresh produce and Desi groceries, And Patel Brothers hits the spot just about right. Although the produce can do more variety but yet what the do carry is always fresh. Talk about desi snacks, pickles, pulses, grains, FROZEN FISH yes they got it all. A stroll though the snack aisles is sure to give you nostalgic memories from childhood. Pros: One Stop Shop for all your next home cooked Indian Food. Cons: The place is ALWAYS crowded. Understandably, it is very difficult times for the store owners and managers to continue to provide variety of quality products. Patel Brothers owners and employees are doing as best as possible job to continue to serve the community. I have seen the employees to continuously work hard to keep the shelves full while keeping the store clean constantly. The cashiers are often times very helpful. My heart goes out to employees who are working hard under constant threat of virus. Great job as we all know how important it is for all of us to have easy access to our favorite indian grocery and food items. read more

I disagree with Amu N. The produce here has always appeared to be as fresh as any other store if not fresher. I have never seen any chewed through vegetables or fruits. Nor have I ever bought any expired products either. However I have only been going here since 2011 maybe improvements were made since 2010. I do agree that the floor does seem a bit dirty but nothing is kept on the floor anyway. That being said this place has everything you might need for Indian food. Amazing prices as well as great selection. They have a large variety of frozen foods as well as different rices. This place is always a good change of pace from the Stop & Shop down the street. I got a cart full of groceries here for 25 bucks! Can't be beat! read more

Stopped in to get tea and they offer a nice selection of organic tea. Got lemongrass along with masala chai. Good for colds and an rich in antioxidants. The mugwas selection is rich in selections. Also picked up ready wrapped pan mouth freshner. This is a must for cigar smokers. Snacks are out of this world. Good thing @ this place all the girls @ the counter speak English & are ready to help. I come here cause it's closer to my house. But it's just as good as going to edison. read more

You pretty much get every thing for your indian kitchen here. I love this place it is one point to finish my weekend shopping. Also you have two restaurants next to this place. 1. Abhiruchi and 2. BEWARE!!!! They sell a lot of expired food.. And they charge you different price at the Register than what is marked by the product / produce .. When I pointed out that they have different price the staff was very rude .. they went and took the price tag out from the isle while one was yelling with me... the staff has no manners are absolutely rude and instead of talking nice and accepting blame they asked me to pay the price that they charged at the register!!! And I have been a customer there since they opened !! I'd rather take my business to a store where they will at least respect their customers!!!! This place is dirty as it can be. The above reviewer has no clue. He though it was fun. I have been to this more than 100 times ( sorry it took me this long to realize) to get indian groceries and every time I have realized how much these Indian food stores care less about hygiene.the floors are so dirty especially near the ice cream section. You will find expired food for months and probably years kept on the shelf. One such thing is prawns pickle I got in may 2010, this was expired in march 2010, well I returned it and not to my surprise it went back to the shelf and this is Aug 2010 and it's still on shelf. You will see rotten stuff in the frozen section too. Chapatis are one such. Be very very careful. Vegetables and fruits are like refurbished hence they are cheap. You will see egg plants , tomatoes, beans ( just to name a few) are like bitten and thrown by a animal before being sold at this store.my guess is they are the second ( or third grade) quality vegetables from the farm. We Indian people love our food and get sucked into "all Indian stuff under one roof concept". I am going to stop going to this store at least for vegetables. I am surprised the food inspectors have not cracked down on this scam.Would suggest go to farmer's market for veggies instead. read more

Yesterday I purchased a packet of Indian sweets and all pieces had fungus. I already ate one and had stomach problem. My wife found fungus in her piece. When I went there tonight, they including the main person said - they can not do anything. I said I will report to the consumer report and health department.They said go ahead and they did not exchange the item or did not take return even. I am looking for justice... This is USA.
