If your in Florence you have to stop by for a great authentic Italy. This is our second time stopping in at La Bottega del Chianti and we weren't disappointed. He recommended a meat and cheese board with some vino that was absolutely divine. I don't think I've ever had such a delicious and fresh off the bone charcuterie as I did today. He sat with us while we snacked sharing with us his family history and 3 generations of business, since 1924. Such a kind soul. I hope his business lasts lifetimes more. It truly is such a special place. Can't wait to get back. Highly recommend. No crowds either.

The family/staff that owns the market and restaurant was so sweet. We stopped by for a lunch and ordered anything they recommended. They were extremely attentive and wanted us to have the best experience. We had the Ribollita and their charcuterie board for 2. It was such a treat! I've never had Ribollita before then, but it tasted so fresh and homey. It was as if a family had invited you to their home for a meal. The eating space is a tiny, so if you find an open table definitely try to grab a bite there! The walls are also littered with post it notes from customers who have had the pleasure of eating there. To be transparent, one of the things that drew me to La Strega was the name, I wanted to see what was so witchy about this gelato - and of course the positive reviews helped. The gelateria itself was lovely - soft music playing with intricate decor and a good amount of space. There were a few chairs and stools in case you wanted to sit and enjoy, though they were a little awkwardly placed. There were several flavors of gelato as expected - instead of being on display they were in tubs covered in lids. I heard that's the "proper" way to store gelato as it remains fresher, though the jury is still out for me on that one. Anyway, I got the smallest cup size where I was able to choose two flavors - so I went with the cream and the chestnut. The gelato was really good - creamy with great flavor. Service was great, and overall this was a solid gelateria - La Strega is definitely worth stopping into when in Firenze.

The store is conveniently located about a block from the back corner of the Duomo- so easy to find and return to often in travels around Florence. The staff were very helpful and suggested a few things I hadn't thought of. What I liked was they left me alone to discover on my own and did not hover but were kind and attentive. I highly recommend Pegna if you're craving something nostalgic or even something special. They had the best selection of over 30 stores I visited, and carry brands from elsewhere where in Europe that I could not find anywhere else in a 6 mile radius.
