Our six-year-old was tired and grouchy on our last full day in Paris, recovering from a stomach bug…read morethat had taken him out for a good chunk of our trip. We'd had grand plans to go see Notre-Dame and the Louvre and spend time at the Tuileries, but we threw that all out and settled on one easy outing: a quick trip on the Metro to see the Palais-Royal. The Palais-Royal isn't a royal palace in the same way as, say, Versailles. It's much smaller, built for Cardinal Richelieu in the 1630s, and you can't go in and gawk at all the bedrooms, as the buildings are currently in use by the French government. Instead, you can hang out in the courtyard, which serves as a park. (There are some shops and restaurants and I'm sure you can go in the buildings, but the courtyard seems to be the most salient public-facing part.) The Palais is in the middle of Paris, right next to the Louvre. We took Line 1 for one stop to get there, and that ended up being a highlight of the trip for our two boys (the 1 is fully electric, so it has no driver and you can look right out the front while you ride). Just a tip for any other parents trying to entertain young children. I was hoping our kids would run around the courtyard, but our poor ailing son didn't have the energy. It was still a great place to visit. The courtyard was striking, the 17th-century architecture enhanced by one of the coolest public artworks I've ever seen. This was a Daniel Buren installation consisting of dozens of column of varying heights, painted in black and white stripes, a modern sculptural project sponsored by the Ministry of Culture (housed at the Palais-Royal) in the 1980s. I am sure this is famous on Instagram, as it's very distinct and photogenic, as well as interactive. My three-year-old ran around playing among the columns, which also served as seats for the rest of us. There was a cool pair of fountains on another side of the courtyard, by sculptor Pol Bury, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture at the same time as the columns. I didn't know about Palais-Royal before this trip to Paris, and I would've checked it out years ago if I had. It's an easy stop if you're going to the Louvre, and well worth seeing all on its own.

I think someone told me, this used to be a parking lot (car park)... and someone creative turned it into an iconic "IG" spot! Crowded, yes. Seems to be the trend in Paris... lol even in off peak season, so be patient and wait your turn to take your spot... my sister and I waited for the school kids to leave and grabbed a row that was semi empty, so we can take a less crowded photo. After a morning exploring the Louvre, my boyfriend and I headed to the Rue Montorgueil for either a…read moresnack or a meal. I learned about Rue Montorgueil on YouTube as a great market to explore. I got to live out my dreams exploring the local market and eat fresh fruits. Rue Montorgueil has been a street market area since the middle ages, and most of the shops here have been opened for generations. There are bakeries, butcheries, cheese shops, and of course groceries. This iconic street was immortalized in art when Claude Monet's painting of Rue Montorgueil. This area is a great experience of a real Parisian community, away from the more tourist traps. If you are looking for a spot to eat in the area, I recommend really looking at the menus to see if there is something you like, and also to doublecheck the price. We noticed that the prices were more on the edge locations and was more reasonable in the middle of the street. I had the best meal of my time in Paris at Au Rocher de Cancale in the heart of Rue Montorgueil. I'll expand on that in a separate review.

Thus, the greenway to the Southwest of the canals (Square Federick Lemaire) was closed (probably to keep people out during the night time). But the canal is well lit, and there were plenty of young and old men having a good time, smoking and drinking. On the eastern side of the canal, there are quite a few nice shops, and people were still shopping. On the western side is more industrial shops, with us walking past multiple home improvement shops focusing on flooring and tiles. We were not able see any of the locks in action, but were able to cross the bridges back and forth and take some nice pictures. it's definitely worth a stop if in the area, and i understand why it would be so beautiful in the spring for a leisurely walk in the daytime.

I've been trying to get to Canal Saint Martin since 2019 and every trip since has ended in…read moredisappointment. I was very determined not to let our visit to Canal Saint Martin go down the drain. I didn't want to take a riverboat cruise but simply grab a baguette sandwich and sit at one of the benches and enjoy the view. While Canal Saint Martin was very agréable, the Paris weather was not. Periods of rain made our picnic idea a soaking mess but we happened to catch a riverboat going up through the locks. Did you know ? Construction of the canal was ordered by Napoleon I in 1802 and construction took place until 1825, funded by a new tax on wine. The neighborhood was friendly and the views were stunning. We had a great time enjoying the sights even with the Paris rain. Best part of Canal Saint Martin is that it's free. There's no admission ticket or reservation to make. To get there via metro the 8 line takes you to République and from there it's a short walk.

There were multiple tours going on in different languages at the same time but each group went to different sections. So your group might pass another group but you were not together. Our group was about 20 people. When you are facing the opera you go to the left and security about half way down the opera lets you in. Then you check in and wait in a rotunda area. After waiting for probably 15-20 our tour started. They take you to most of the areas and it's semi private. One of the highlights of our trip!

Wow what a beauty of a building!!…read more I cannot emphasize enough how much you should go visit this place Specifically you should book the mystery tour held at 5pm which boasts a behind the scenes look at the Paris Opera House and its beautiful Grand Foyer(note- you may recognize the famous steps from Emily in Paris ) It's a group tour - but it's after hours so it's definitely limited people and less tourists then during the day and I loved it- The guides were great , you get an ear piece to listen to in multiple languages I would love to come back and see an actual show someday

The Bridge of Love?…read more My partner and I went to Paris for vacation. And while there, he proposed. It was so sweet. The Eiffel Tower in the background and everything! We wanted to go to Le Pont des Arts to add a love lock.... But we were too scared lol As we know you are not supposed to do that anymore. And let's be real here; my fiancé could not survive in jail lol Heck, I don't know how I would do in French jail lolol We decided to play it safe (in another country and all) and admire the bridge from a far. I knew if we got close, I would be tempted to break the rules lol It is a beautiful bridge. We passed right by it on the way to the Louvre. It's a famous bridge that you must at least see. If you have more will power than me, then you can walk on it lol

You can no longer place locks on the bridge, which I understand since it was causing structural…read moreissues. They put glass on the sides so people don't try anything but that made it lose all its appeal. It was interesting though to see all the other places on this bridge people try to place their locks, like lampposts, on the construction fence, etc. It seems the new 'it' place to put your love locks on is over in Montmartre at the Basilica du Sacre Couer.

It sits in the middle of 12 converging avenues, and is situated at the intersections of 3 arrondissments. The tomb of the unknown soldier and the eternal place can be found in the center of the arc. Entrance lines for tickets and then entrance to climb the stairs to the top were quite long when we visited in Feb 2026 (sure wasn't like this 20 years ago!) And while the view of the city and the l'etiole is great, its not worth wasting the day waiting in line. Stroll down the Champs Elysees and admire this iconic street while heading to Place de la Concorde.
