Do yourself a favor and do not eat here. Full stop, move on. We stopped in for lunch on a Wednesday…read moreat noon and the fact that it was absolutely deserted should have tipped us, but we were hungry, on a schedule, and I was determined not to leave Harlingen without having some authentic Mexican food. Sadly, this was NOT that. One slow server and one cook were the only other people in this large establishment, festooned with multicolored Mylar shaped balloons hanging from the ceiling. A large sign by the door offers catering. 8-/ The chips and salsa were delivered first and being hungry, I dove in. It was kind of like diving into the shallow end and stopping quickly. The chips were quite stale and the "salsa" served in a little pitcher was thin, pinkish in color, and hot. Yes, it was spicy but it was also served HOT. Is that a thing down here? We looked at the menu, full of typical fare, and - still hoping for a good experience - ordered lunch specials. My brother and I had the two enchiladas with a crunchy beef taco, refried beans, rice, while our other brother ordered the beef burrito. I also asked the server to bring us some fresh chips. She disappeared behind a door and came out a few minutes later bearing a basket of hot chips. I bit into one and realized they were still stale, she had just heated them up. No thanks. When our food arrived, all three dishes looked pretty much the same, but it's the flavor that counts, right? I took a bite of the puddle of refried beans, which were quite salty and the consistency of baby food. I tried my enchilada - which I discovered was a cheese enchilada - and it was okay but required a knife to cut. The tortilla was tough. The inside cheese was like a sauce that had been painted onto the tortilla. The rice was just orange-colored rice and the crunchy beef taco was unseasoned ground beef in a (probably) store-bought taco shell. I heard from locals this place is pretty busy at night although at noon on a weekday we did not see another soul.

I was in the area for the holidays as my partner's family is from the Valley. I don't know much about the area but felt like we were in a good location for everything that we needed. It was super accessible to the airport, an HEB, a Starbucks and an Orangetheory Fitness. When I didn't want to leave the hotel because it was raining or didn't want to make the same mistake of driving in the wrong direction on a one way street (yikes), I didn't need to. The on-site gym was open 24 hours and had a treadmill, an elliptical machines, weights, water, and towels. The on-site and complimentary breakfast and coffee was decent (tortillas would have been nice though). And I even noticed on my room fridge a sign that said the would pick up some groceries for me if I needed. I don't know if the grocery service is true of all Residence Inn's but if not, it aligns with my experience here with the staff that was super friendly and accommodating.

So on a trip to Harlingen I checked into the Residence Inn right next to the Bass Pro Shops. Not only was the location a plus, due to Bass Pro shops being on the same parking lot, the hotel is much newer and in much better condition than the Hilton I normally stay in. Everything was high quality from my check in experience, the evening reception with food beer and wine, to the workout room which had not only treadmills but free weights as well. This far outshined the Hampton Inn that I normally stay in on Ed Carey Drive. This is a really nice hotel at a reasonable price and I would recommend to anyone: clean, quiet, comfortable, and very dark window shades to be able to sleep at night as well as in a very quiet location.

Although this is a new hotel and in great condition, it is one of the worst hotels I have stayed in…read morein years. I travel weekly for work and the people that work here are some of the rudest I have come across. There was 1 lady that worked on the night of 5/7/25 that was friendly, but everyone else during my stay was unnecessarily rude. Some I witnessed being rude to other guests. I landed in Harlingen, exhausted and went to the hotel before check in to see if they had a room ready. If not, I would have just worked in the main area. I was given attitude from the moment I walked in. I explained that I knew it was before the official check in but just wanted to see if they had any rooms ready. At 1st the lady kept looking at papers and ignored me. After several minutes standing there I finally asked if she had a room or not. She then got me checked in. I did not receive a bottle of water or anything at check in as I usually do. I don't have them clean my room so I often need refills of stuff. Anytime I asked for something like a towel or toilet paper I had to explain I did not need my room cleaned, just a refill. The breakfast ladies like to sit or stand by the trash cans and gossip with the morning front desk lady. At 7:30 in the morning, nothing is refilled and when a child made a mess they made no effort to clean it. One breakfast lady likes to order the other around very rudely as well. Not sure why there are 2 at this hotel when 1 does nothing but sit and gossip. It's extremely unprofessional to see and hear them when trying to get and eat breakfast. I ended up taking it back to my room when I saw them there. At one point when I was asking for a washcloth another guest was asking for a bottle of water that she should have gotten at check in. The lady looked her up and told her she wasn't platinum level so she could not get one. There was definitely a better way to handle that. There were multiple people in the lobby and I felt bad for her. Another guest and I looked at each other with understanding that it was wrong. Too much to talk about so I will end here. If you like being treated like crap, this is the place for you.

Excellent hotel in the Harlingen region. Has four floors. Large flat screen TV in all the rooms. I got a room with only a standup shower but comfortably could fit two people. Complimentary breakfast Monday through Friday from 6am-9am and Saturday and Sunday 630am-930am. Has the usual things such as eggs, potatoes, self-made waffles, yogurt, toast/bagels, and juices. Free WiFi that was good speed throughout the facility. Pool is supposedly heated, but it was still really cold and we had to leave within a few minutes of being in the water.
