    Spirit Halloween

    Spirit Halloween

THIS IS FOR SPIRIT CHRISTMAS!…read more it overwhelming smelled of cinnamon pine cones. There were a ton of interactive displays which my kids loved. They also got to mail a letter to Santa. I'm not sure what I was expecting but this was like a Christmas store and Spencer's had a child. The ugly sweaters were awesome!

I'll give you this: Spirit Halloween is a decent place to go in a pinch. Case in point: with two…read moreHalloween parties coming up in one weekend last month, I was able to snag the accessories for a devil costume here - no fuss, no waiting, no worrying that any mailed items wouldn't get to me in time. But Spirit is not my first choice for Halloween costume shopping by any means. I do give the chain props for being able to put together so many functioning pop-up stores so quickly every year. But the products they offer just don't impress me that much. In my opinion, things tend to be unnecessarily overpriced given the quality of the products being sold. There isn't a ton of originality to be found, either, so if you're the creative type you may be disappointed by Spirit's offerings. Another big problem with Spirit - well, this Spirit - is the lack of organization. There wasn't any overhead labeling that I or my partner could see, so we literally walked through the entire store to figure out what was available. Not only is this inconvenient, but considering how some people like to include sex(y) elements in their Halloween costume, this could be bothersome at best for some people. Case in point: there was a costume entitled "Skeleboner" (which I am NOT posting the picture for) hanging in a row of other ridiculous "sexy" themed costumes. No labels, no warnings, no nothing to let shoppers know "hey the risqué costumes are hanging up here". And this is in a store full of kids costumes, so it's not unreasonable to imagine a kid running down that aisle without supervision. Just, ew. So again, meh. Spirit Halloween will get the job done in a pinch, but their store layout needs some work to make shopping easier. Plus their merchandise is pretty average at best (and frankly, offensive at worst). It's worth taking the time to find alternative purchases if you can.

My Favorite Sweet Shoppe - What I bought

An employee was busy serving another customer but soon after served me. She made friendly conversation. Here are my reviews for what I bought: S'more - 5 stars - I liked the chocolate, marshmallows, and graham cracker of this s'more. Raspberry chocolates - 5 stars - I liked the strong flavor of raspberries in the center of the milk chocolate. Strawberry chocolates - 4 stars - I liked the milk chocolate but thought that the strawberry could taste differently. Chocolate-covered cherries - 5 stars - These cherries and milk chocolate met my expectations and tasted very good. Gummy flower bouquet - 4.5 stars - This flower bouquet was constructed from many pieces of gummies, and I thought that it looked so pretty. The gummies were slightly hard and chewy but tasted good. Mountain Magic - 5 stars - Chunks contained marshmallows, rice, and peanut butter. I definitely taste the peanut butter and really enjoyed it. Peppermint-chocolate marshmallow - 4 stars - A large marshmallow was covered in milk chocolate and covered in peppermint pieces. One without peppermint would have fit my personal preferences better. Hot-cocoa spoon - 4.5 stars - A plastic spoon contained chocolate, marshmallows, and sparkles. I put it in hot milk to melt it. The hot chocolate tasted good. Sugarfina Sparkling Rose Bears - 5 stars - Gummy bears had a slight flavor of rose wine. Chocolate-covered pretzels - 5 stars - Chocolate-covered pretzels are one of my favorites. One pretzel was covered in milk chocolate, and the other pretzel was covered in white chocolate. Buckeyes - 3.5 stars - These buckeyes had tasty milk chocolate but needed a stronger flavor of peanut butter. The employee could not give me either a printed or emailed receipt. My husband paid and said that the total cost was ~$60.

The woman working that day was very friendly, not overbearing, and willing to provide suggestions and recommendations where needed. They offer free samples of their mountain crunch (?) that was light, crunchy, and peanut butter-y. She said it's one of their top sellers and I can understand why. I got an assortment of chocolates from the bulk case ($32/lb) and a few Easter items. I ended up totaling somewhere around $30. The chocolate was fresh and each piece that I had the pleasure of sampling was delicious. If I need a gift or just a mid-day pick me up, I wouldn't hesitate to stop in here.

For example, the stuffed animals are basically the same ones at Walmart or Target; the chocolates are the same ones you can find at Giant Eagle; and so on. They do have a decent selection of greeting cards to browse, but I personally prefer to shop for stationery at stores like Kards Unlimited or Wildcard (which offer more unique and even quirky options). I guess it's nice to have this place as option if you can't drive to those other stores, though. It's a shame since I remember enjoying browsing here in years past. Now though, it feels like their stock is very "same old same old" compared to other places. I can't say anything is cheaper here than it is elsewhere, either. So I don't go out of my way to shop here anymore.

We just stopped in to check on the latest release of their Christmas decoration sets (Snowmen set…read moreof '18) and happened to find the complete set for $129 (including the light up trees) as well as an ornament to complete our Star Wars set. Well; we forgot to bring in our coupons or rewards certificates and thought to ask one of the four women behind the counter if they happened to have any coupons or if they could hold the items for us. One of the women (dirty blonde hair, didn't catch her name if she was wearing a name tag), was counting monies in one of the registers (we arrived at 8:15pm, and they don't close until 9 also) rudely said to my husband something along the lines of "She can help you over there." I then stepped over to ask him what the answer was when she then turned to me and snipped our "This register's closed, she can help you over there!" I replied "I'm with him." To which she replied again: "I know! This register is closed someone will help you over there." I didn't recall asking her if her register was open, or even for her to help me; I don't ever recall being treated so rudely when spending close to $200 on frivolous things that I can get online as well. The woman that stepped over to wait on us was relatively nicer than the first; and made small talk to try and smooth over the rude lady's attitude. But it was to no avail to us. We checked out, and promptly left the store feeling like we nothing but a pain in their rear ends for wanting to spend money. This wasn't the first time I left this store feeling this way either.
