That's where the Catamount Travel Center Cherokee Exxon in Whittier comes in. We stopped in to do exactly that: take a break from the road, restock supplies, and give our legs a reminder that they still worked. Mission accomplished. The store was relatively clean, well organized, and stocked with a good variety of snacks, drinks, and travel essentials. Even better, the prices were surprisingly reasonable compared to many convenience stores that seem to believe being located near a highway automatically qualifies them to charge airport pricing. One pleasant surprise was the selection of local wines. It's always nice when a travel center offers something that reflects the local area rather than the exact same inventory you can find at every interstate exit from Florida to Alaska. The staff was efficient, everything moved smoothly, and we were back on the road without any drama, confusion, or frustration. And honestly, that's a bigger compliment than it might sound. Travel centers aren't always trying to create unforgettable experiences. Their job is to provide convenience, and this one lived up to its name. Did it knock my socks off? No. Did I leave telling everyone I know about the life-changing convenience store experience I just had? Also no. But it was clean, reasonably priced, well stocked, and did exactly what I needed it to do. I spent most of the visit debating whether this was a three-star stop or a four-star stop. If Yelp allowed half stars, this would probably land somewhere in the middle. But today I'm feeling generous. Four stars. Because sometimes competence deserves a little extra credit.

The brisket and pulled pork were the same champion BBQ. They also make a hash brown casserole and their own baked beans that can stand on there own. Oh and just wait for breakfast! The breakfast bowl with homemade biscuits, eggs, sausage gravy would delight anyone!

I'm not sure if the Asian worker was the owner or not, but he was there each time that I was there. He wasn't very friendly. But hey, get your beer, gas and snacks and go. Side note: who was the lady who "blessed" my husband when he sneezed? Apparently is a local thing to say "you're so handsome" instead of "bless you". Weird.

I am a sucker for a clean convenience store bathroom. The two clerks were very friendly and even told me they had just mopped the bathroom so to be careful. They were both busy about cleaning the store which was already pretty clean. The gas is decently priced for being so far from a major city and the parking lot was well lit and clean. The female owner is from India and she is personable, kind, and attentive. The rest of the staff is great. If you vape, they have a huge selection of many brands (I have not found cheaper Elf Bars anywhere in the surrounding area). They also sell bulk kratom, and it's quite decent kratom - I have switched from buying it online and look forward now to a half hour drive each way to get it from here & hopefully run into the owner. There is a plentiful selection of legal cannabinoids as well here. Prices are so reasonable. The only drawback to the place is there is no public restroom (this is my only sorrow about this spot because after driving that far, I usually need to use one). Gas prices also beat out the surrounding area. I will keep going way out of my way to go there just because I enjoy it so much. It's so interesting to me that someone could come so far to end up in a little obscure place like that, and make something so enjoyable out of a gas station pit stop.

RESTROOMS are very clean and not broken down. They are expanding the food options but I'm sure you'll find something to naw on . Try the big Hot Dogs, Chili Sauce, and condiments. You won't be sorry.
