If it were possible to give a zero-star rating, I would have. My mother had a stroke and after…read morethree weeks in acute rehab she was moved to this place. She has memory issues and doesn't remember that her left side no longer works. I had gone over all my concerns with the Director of Admissions, including her being a high fall risk. Apparently the State of Texas doesn't "allow" skilled nursing facilities or nursing homes to use bed rails on their beds. Mom wasn't there four hours before I got a call that she had fallen out of bed and was going to the hospital! She spent five days there before being released to another facility. I called the Medicare Patient Advocate and reported the situation and accident. When I got a call back from them, they told me that two different people in management said that they had not been told she was a fall risk. Probably due to the fact that I had never heard of either person, let alone spoken to them. Just know that if you are seeking a facility, beware of this one. They lie by omission and will lie to your face.

Sad to write this review. My mom had to go over for skilled nursing a couple of times in years past…read moreand they did a good job. But recently another family member was there and it's really gone downhill (they were bought out by Touchstone Communities, so I don't know if that has to do with it or not). There is NO real physical therapy going on, so the patient just gets weaker and weaker. They seem to treat everyone as if they were dementia patients and mostly ignore them. There were just few good staff members. Interesting, some of the temporary staff (and they have a lot of them now) were the most considerate. I think their goal is to just warehouse people and collect the insurance. What REALLY made me mad is they didn't tell me until the day before that Medicare would no longer pay 100% and we would have to pay $200 out of pocket PER DAY. So we had to scramble to find another place. I've since heard that I'm not the only person that happened to!

I have a relative and know of others living here. First the food quality is mediocre at best. It fluctuates as they tend to cycle thru chefs. Secondly, don't ask them to go out of their way on anything, especially the entitlement Becky in charge of the transportation. They are supposed to provide transportation to doctor's appointments and the like, but often times leave elderly people, sometimes on portable oxygen, waiting for 30 -45 minutes or longer. If they need a wheelchair or some other reasonable accommodation, don't expect it without a fight. Customer service is not their specialty, but attitude that you owe them is. Then at the end of the year instead of the company paying their employees a Christmas bonus, they squeeze the residents for it. We're not talking $100 - $250. They "suggest" $2 -$3 a day. That's $730 - $1,095 per unit, they have 190 units, so they can rake in over $200,000 extra that they don't tell you about when you move in. They just say "oh there's no tipping!" I guess until the end of the year. If you're loved ones use oxygen, just also be aware they do NOT have any back up generators, so the next time there is a hurricane, (and one will surely come, and when it's mercilessly hot too), they will be left sweltering in the dangerous heat with no AC. The ground floor also flooded during Harvey, which knocked out most of their amenities for quite some time. Don't be fooled by the grand lobby, the service here does not live up to what you might expect at first blush.

The recently remodeled décor is beautiful, warm and inviting and they offer every level of care from independent living cottages and apartments to assisted living, memory care and even skilled nursing. The professional and knowledgeable office staff, the fun and creative activities directors, the friendly and accommodating dining team, the nurturing caregivers, the helpful and responsive maintenance teams, the kind and thoughtful onsite pastor, the proactive and caring nurse navigator, the beauty shop gals, the helpful drivers and everyone in between, the VGF staff truly cares about each resident and makes everyone feel right at home!

He needs both rehab for the broken arm, and general strengthening and balance improvement--and we believe he is in the right place to get this care. Liz navigated the admission/approval process to get him admitted on short notice after we did not move foreword with another SNF due to concerns he would not be safe there. Liz has continuously checked in to make sure everything is going well. The physical therapists and occupational therapists have been patient and kind, and our loved one has been very happy with the meals. The staff has been willing to work with our family to try to fine-tune insulin dosing, given some issues with high blood sugars. After our brief and very negative experience with the other SNF, we are glad we landed here, and grateful for the kindness and care our loved one is receiving.
