Gorgeous park in Sevilla!…read more This park is home to the famous Plaza de Espana pavillion as well as numerous other statues, water fountains, and other pavillions. The mujedar pavillion is quite striking. Worth walking through the whole park.

From the river, walk straight across the park to the plaza, or catch one of the many horse carriages giving 30-minute tours. Shady, with numerous paths criss-crossing the park, there are flowers, benches, toilets, and carts selling water bottles, hats, fans, and trinkets. Busy with families on weekends, one end is filled with the archaelogy museum, while the palace is on the other. Many buildings from the 1929 expo still line the park.

The gardens were named after famed Sevillian painter, Bartolomé Murillo, in 1918. Along the garden path, Paseo de Catalina de Ribera (named after the founder of the Hospital de las Cinco Llagas), you will find the biggest Magnolia tree you have ever seen. I could sit and look at it all day. GORGEOUS! (There is also a monumental Liana tree deeper in the garden.) An impressive statue dedicated to Christopher Columbus sits along the Paseo de Catalina de Ribera. These gardens border the southern edge of the Barrio de Santa Cruz, making for a beautiful entry into this old historic quarter. There are bike rentals at the southern end of the Paseo de Catalina de Ribera. The gardens are formal in design, and very flat of terrain, thus they are easily walkable, and accessible to disabled persons.
