Heaven for beach-lovers. If you're not one of them but still enjoy looking at the ocean and the beach, then walking along this Paseo is a great thing to do. The promenade follows most of the beach. It's big, it's wide. Enough space for everybody. Dogs on the promande are allowed - as opposed to the beach. Along the promenade you'll find countless cafés and restaurants. Most offering similar menus. For true spanish culinary experiences I'd recommend the old town though. But to have a drink and watch the world go by it's fine. Some shops, ice cream shops, beach gear rentals and public toilets can be found as well. It's just a nice and relaxing thing to do, strolling up and down the Paseo. To the west you could actually follow the road on a footpath along the ocean until Getaria. Surely something we'll do when back one day.

Let them know in advance if you have allergies or dietary restrictions. They have a recorded boat tour in several languages, which was professionally done by an historian. You will learn so much in such a beautiful relaxing day! And the owners know so much about their area and help along the way. They were so kind and let my 10 year old son stand in the captain's chair. He had the best time. After a month of being in Europe, two days that were his favorite. This was one of them. There is only room for a max of 12 people, so consider this a semi private yacht experience. Very clean, very well done. Great value for money.

Out of the 4 beaches around Donosti, this one is the one that has the tallest waves and…read moresurf...therefore, it is here that you can see the surfers ride the waves and enjoy hanging ten. The water was a bit cold and the weather was kind of cool while I was visiting, so many of the surfers had wet suits. There are stations for lifeguards and first aid that are open based on the season and a set schedule. Many restaurants, cafes and shops are located right across the beach.

And it's a really nice place to just chill and watch surfers surf! There are designated areas when people can go in the water and play. The lifeguards try and ensure that people aren't getting too close to the high waves and surfers. In terms of the surf, the waves are pretty decent. You'll usually come across knee high to waist high waves (at least that's what is was when I was there). This is a great place for beginner/intermediate surfers to improve their skill level! Beware though, the waves come in very quickly, one after the other. This made me a little exhausted because every time I surfed a wave, it would take me a while to get back to the "safe spot" or the break (I am not the strongest swimmer or most skilled surfer). You'll see many of the more skilled surfers drop out of a wave to avoid coming to close to the shore, if this makes sense. For the 1st timers, if you stay near the left side of the beach, the waves are ankle to knee high! Great place to learn, you'll see all the surf schools out here too!

On our way to La Rioja we came to Zumaia for a few hours. Mostly because we wanted to check on this…read morefamous (now even more so) beach. It is an impressive sight and well worth a drive. And especially after Game Of Thrones the popularity for sure really took off. There is no parking here, your best bet is to park by the "Txomin Agirre Kalea" street by the river. Plenty of metered parking. And it's only an easy 10' stroll to this beach. The beach itself is a dark-sand beach. But it's not the beach that makes most people come here. It's the amazing rock formations and cliffs. Some rocks stand out like razors and the cliffs do look like they've been carved. But it's all mother nature and that makes it even more amazing. This is where some famous scenes from Dragonstone (GoT) were filmed. And it's interesting how easy it is to access for the public. And free....and no restrictions (except no pets). On the left side of the beach there are several caves. It's a bit wet on the way, but you can get there with sneakers even. On the right side are the razor-shaped formations and also the impressive cliffs. Be careful where to access, because it's swampy and you might bury your feet in it (like me). On the very right are some small stairs, the best way to access this area. It's really a great place to stroll along the beach. Great views. And less visitors than you might think. Especially if you walk along the beach on the right, then there are less and less people....the further you go. Impressive place. One of the best we've visited on this Road Trip.

Best sunset views!!!…read more Oh so many evenings/ afternoons and sunsets walked happened here during my recent trip to San Sebastian!! This place is magical!!! it's the trees! The beach! The gorgeous ocean! It is beautiful! You can walk down to the beach during the day ( low tide, spring) and just walk! Nap! Or sit by one of the trees and people watch. it's always so busy! So lively! Live music! Skaters! Old couples! kids! So cute! And it's a huge park right in the middle of the city!! Museum is right there! Tapas bar down the block! Everything is great! Also helped that I stayed right across the cross street from here. In and out of the hotel and viola! Awaits this beautiful massive park! A must if you are visiting!!

Plaza Gipuzkoa, located in the center of San Sebastián, is one of the most emblematic places of the…read morecity. There are beautiful sculptures, plenty of benches to sit, it also includes a complex meteorological temple, a large white marble hour table and a huge clock made of flowers of various colors. The meteorological clock dates back from 1879 and it has inscriptions along its marble column. In them there are a whole series of readings such as the average atmospheric pressure; the distance of San Sebastián with respect to the Equator; the longitude of San Sebastián counted from the meridian of Madrid, of San Fernando and of Paris (at that time many people continued to use meridians other than Greenwich as a reference); the average temperature in the shade according to the seasons (which differ greatly from the current ones due to the methods of measurement and climate change); the maximum average annual temperature of the Sun (a data that was stopped being measured at the end of the 19th century); the decline of the magnetic needle in San Sebastián; the average vertical height of the water that falls in San Sebastián; the latitude of Pau and its average temperature. Such a great scientific piece for those into weather and technology. The beautiful gardens and paths located in the center of the square are a meeting and resting place for the residents of San Sebastián, many of whom, love feeding the two resident swans who spend time in the main pond. In front of the park we can admire the headquarters of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa. Throughout the year, the square serves as a setting for the celebration of various events. In the summer, for example, book fairs are held and children's attractions are set up. During Christmas time, beautiful decorations adorn this green space. I loved walking around and relaxing in here. Only two blocks from the Old Town.
