Dreadful experiences in that Library. People in filthy clothes stretched out over several seats seemingly in a drunken stupor. Glares and glances and tight facial expressions from the library clerks. Dreadful. Libraries should have remained libraries. Not drop in centres

This is the general library at the University and it's pretty good as far as university libraries…read morego. I always found the interloans staff (the ones who help you to get your hands on a specific obscure journal article that your whole year will end up being a failure without) a little brusque and intimidating, but the rest of the staff were generally quite approachable and very helpful. The staff on the issues desk where you check your books out often seem to be undergrads who are more asleep than awake, but hey, I guess it's not the most exciting job in the world. The best thing about the library is how easy it is to find a really quiet desk to study at, and the proximity of a stretch of lawn to recover on, and the food court just across the road.

I have spent countless hours burrowed in the library researching and can quite honestly say I would have been lost without it. I know the library may seem daunting if you're a new student or have never been shown how to use the system, but it's actually pretty simple and is totally worth asking the librarians for help - that is what they're there for and it will save you hours of painful researching! Tip: You don't have to be an Auckland Uni student to use this library. Anyone can walk in and look up books or use their desks as a quiet space to study, you just won't be able to hire anything.

Anyone can come in and use a computer and the Internet; bookings are essential though. The librarians are the best thing about this little Warkworth asset; they are super helpful, resourceful and will always go out of their way to help

I appreciate that my child gets the freedom to walk around a kids zone, and have time outside inside of a library which is not common. Stunning panorama if your in the need of some time out or inspiration while you write or read or study, on the upstairs level. Leys institute is a fantastic library that I have visited numerous times, including today!…read more They have free Wi-Fi, 6 computers that you can book in advance or walk-in and utilise, modern photocopier/printer, fax facility, self book check-out, children's separate library, extensive fiction/non-fiction sections, magazines, CDs, DVDs etc to hire/loan! Hot books for $5 a week, latest (international) magazines $2 per week! Lots of chairs, tables, bathroom amenities upstairs. Community notice board overloaded with what's on, in reception. If you can't find your book: librarians are happy to order it in for you,(from another library) no charge!

Located…read morewithin the glorious confines of the Ley's Institute, this library is small but perfectly formed, They have a great selection of all my favourite graphic novels and the librarians are very friendly and the self-checkout machine works. Those are pretty much the only three things that matter to me when I'm evaluating a library and trying to figure out what score to give it in a five star system. The whole Ley's Institute is a fairly impressive architectural marvel in itself. It's just a really nice place to read and browse for books in.

St Helier's is a cute little library, it's like something out of a storybook…read more I always think of the St Helier's library as a 'ladies' library' - although I'm not quite sure what that means. I think it means it's just very pleasant. It's tidy and quiet inside and the seletion of books, as for all public libraries, is selected to suit the community it serves - so if you can imagine what the ladies (and gents) of St Helier's would most like to read, then that's what they have. The childrens' section is particularly cute (although very small), and they have lots of nice displays. There's also a good community noticeboard and they hold bookclubs there too.

I once set up at one of these window seats, only to have to move about 10 minutes later due to an ant problem! Epsom has a neatly spaced out library with very helpful staff members. Their friendly advice and knowledge of the other library branches is an excellent benefit. The sunny bay windows with private chairs and power points are perfect for the solitary study of the studious. And there are no near-by bars to distract you. Actually there isn't much near by so have a coffee before you arrive. It's no flowery, latte-art city library. Epsom has a good, standard, silent library that only misses the long wooden tables and green desk lamps.

This is my local library and one of my favourite places. It is as kid-friendly as could be and I…read morelove that I can walk in here with my kids and we each go our own way before meeting up later. I still have moments of amazement where I'm like "books for free!!!!!". It's one of the great pleasures of civilised life to have access to more books than you could ever read in a lifetime and best of all, it costs nothing! The librarians here are particularly helpful and one in particular always goes out of her way to make recommendations to my 11 year old daughter which I am so appreciative of. I will say though that there are a couple of (male) part timers here who are grumpiness personified. Yeah we know libraries are cool and yes, you must be very cool to work in one but let's not forget, it's still a customer service job. Like I said, the ladies are all lovely so go figure.
