My parents were coming to meet me in Brockville and I refused to let them stay here because, y'know, it's a motel. I figured it would be mildly skin-crawling for those who are of the germ-conscious variety. It was booked for me for work by a young 20-something guy who chose it based on the availability of waffles in the free breakfast.
I was so, so so wrong. Turns out the Travelodge they were staying in was antiquated and tacky. This place, however - recently renovated, with wood (or wood-looking) floors, the rooms are incredibly clean and well-maintained, with a terrific housekeeping staff (I left them a note when I lost something; came back a few hours later to a return note and the lost item) who are even intuitive. I sleep with my foot elevated and leave a pillow at the bottom of my bed - the housekeepers even realized after a day that I was doing it on purpose and made the bed around it that way.
The fridge, freezer and microwave are also so clean they appear to be brand new.
The sound proofing is amazing for a motel; I never heard one thing from my neighbours in the four nights I was there.
A few downsides:
- The breakfast. The muffins are mass-produced in individual plastic sleeves, so there is no pretense that they are remotely fresh. There's no protein, just bread (mostly white), some fruit, waffles, cereal and yoghurt. It's not bad, and quite good for a motel, but there had to be a cloud to the silver lining.
- One of the staff was very genial and friendly, but had some foot-in-mouth disease that led to a few sexist comments I could'a done without hearing.
