It is just like any public pool. Locker rooms. Pay at the door. Life jackets to borrow! The water feels fantastic. We went for our son (who was 5 at the time), but he went down the big slide once and refused to again. But I went down it nearly half a dozen times and had THE TIME OF MY LIFE! I have NEVER went down a giant water slide - always too self-conscious as a kid. If you go, whoever you are, let yourself have fun! For thousands of years, the Lakota Sioux prized the natural warm water springs, the "Minnekahta," in this valley. In 1890, local businessman Fred Evans built Evans Plunge over the site of numerous sparkling springs and one mammoth spring of mineral water and made Evans Plunge the Black Hills' oldest attraction - older than Mt. Rushmore or Crazy Horse.

The staff was helpful and we had a good time overall. They have a kitchen (it looked closed, but…read morewill cook anything on the menu if you ask), gym, and spa. The fee for the pool was reasonable and also covers access to the hot tubs (one was down when we were there) and saunas. People of all ages were there. There are ring you can use to swing across the pool and a few slides: kid size, a very fast slide, and one that has many turns. We went in the winter time, so the outdoor section was closed. I suspect the place is a lot more fun in the summer. If you happen to stop by Hot Springs, it's an interesting place to check out. They had a AAA discount. Be sure to bring your own towels and swimsuits. I did have a minor issue with one of the lockers not working (took my quarters but wouldn't lock), but I was able to resolve it easily at the front desk.

What a wonderful and relaxing experience. After deciding to head to Hot Springs we found great…read morereviews for Moccasin Springs. I would caution that this facility is not designed for anyone requiring disabled access to the pools - many stairs. We lucked out calling and getting of the last two reservations for a two hour hot springs soak. The reservation includes access to a sauna, lockers and private bathroom / showers. There are options for additional massage services also with reservations. Towel and robe rentals are also available but you can bring your own. We arrived early and enjoyed a light/healthy brunch before our hot spring access. We were warmly welcomed and provided for some simple guidelines for the phone free / adult only spa. Once inside and changed there are access to six pools with varying temperatures. After two hours in the mineral waters you are amazingly relaxed and skin is smooth as silk. I would definitely go out of my way to come back. Passing through the quaint town that showcases the sandstone buildings allows for other food options and a walk through the park. Awesome experience!

Five-Star Bliss at Nature's Bathtub: (aka Moccasin Springs) Don't Listen to the Soapy-Karens!…read more Let me start by saying: if you're looking for a sterile, chlorinated Jacuzzi at a strip mall with fluorescent lights and piped-in Enya, this ain't your spa. But if you want to soak in real, wild, mineral-rich heaven -- where the Earth herself cradles you in a 104°F geothermal hug -- then welcome to paradise at Moccasin Springs in stunning Hot Springs, South Dakota! Now, before we dive (soak?) into this, let's address some of the ridiculous reviews. You know the ones. The "eww, there's stuff in the water" crowd. The ones who expect a hot spring fed directly from the Earth's crust to be as clear as an Evian bottle. Spoiler alert: nature has texture, people! Yes, there are things floating in the water -- because this isn't a hotel fountain -- it's a living, breathing, healing geothermal miracle. The so-called "things" are natural -- think minerals, soft strands of algae, and delicate bits of moss (in fact, some people make incredible wall art with them, so be sure to be on the lookout while you're soaking). You're not bathing in grossness -- you're steeping in ancient Earth magic. You are the tea. Let's talk the incredible ambiance. Picture this: mist curling off the surface like a spell, leaves swaying above you, and the faint smell of the earth's core whispering, "this is legit." Your stress evaporates. Your pores sing. Your city thoughts fall off like dead skin (and, yes, they have exfoliating rocks for that too). The water feels like it's charged with something ancient. You emerge transformed, like a salamander that has rethought its life. Meanwhile, Brenda from L.A. is still on Yelp, angrily typing, "Why is it green???" Because it's real, Brenda. Because nature isn't filtered through a Brita. Moccasin Springs is literal stunning, soul-soaking, mossy magic. Owner Kara Hagen has lovingly created a truly magical slice of heaven on earth. If you want to be reborn in geothermal ecstasy, come here. Just don't forget your towel, your positive zen, and maybe your loudest (whispered) "ahhhhhhh." Five stars all the way! Will soak my existential dread away in this meticulously crafted spa again and again and again! PS -- 1) While at the spa be sure to eat at the Dragonfly Restaurant. The food is literally some of the very best in the area (as is server extraordinaire Molly)! and 2) While in town be sure to check out the amazing wares at Chautauqua Artisan Market on N. River St. - also NOTHING you'd find in a strip mall!!
