Be very cautious with Stonecrest Apartments! When I asked…read morebefore applying if the price listed included everything except electric, I was told yes. The apartment price was $1,125, but later I was told it's actually $150-$175 more for water, sewage, trash, cable, and internet. I applied for an apartment on July 3, 2025. My application listed the price as $1,275. That same day, I received several emails about my application moving forward. I even got an invitation to activate an online portal for payments, auto-pay, and maintenance requests. After registering, the portal immediately asked for a $200 holding fee. I paid it, believing this meant I was approved and the apartment was being held for me. I even emailed Kolton saying I'd be in on July 10 with my information. But when I showed up, he told me I wasn't approved yet, had no record of approval, and didn't know why I was asked for the $200. I asked for my $200 back. He said he'd call corporate. Days went by with no update. I called corporate myself, leaving three voicemails with three different people -- no one answered or called me back. I even left a message on their website with no response. Finally, on August 7 -- 35 days after applying and 28 days after speaking to Kolton -- he called to say I was approved. By then, I had already made other housing arrangements (as anyone knows, you can't wait over a month to hear back when moving -- most leases give 30 days). I told Kolton again I wanted my $200 back because they were not holding an apartment for me. He insisted it was non-refundable and said I could "try calling corporate" myself -- even though I'd already done that. This $200 "holding fee" is misleading at best and feels like fraud. You can't make someone wait over a month for approval, keep their money, and expect them not to find another place to live. Any ethical and reasonable landlord would understand this. Unfortunately, that was not the case with Kolton, Stonecrest Apartments, or Soundview Equities. Misleading, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable.

My family and I lived at Shadow Ridge for 4 years in the Hazelwood unit. While our experience was…read moremostly okay, there were significant management and maintenance issues. The management team took every opportunity to not be in the office, just about every holiday results in them not being there. Turnover happened pretty often and we became accustomed to new staff working there every 3 months. You'll hear the "I just started here, so I don't know" line over and over again. They like to resolve things by leaving passive aggressive letters on doors. When we had complaints they would send letter. If the issue persisted they sent another letter. If we asked if there was more they could do they'd say "Let me get back to you," and hope you would forget. They are there to rent more apartments out, once you sign that lease the effort drops to damn near zero. Maintenance when I first lived in this community was great. They were quick to solve our issues and were pretty communicative throughout the process. If I submitted a request I usually had it resolved within a day or two. With staff turnover that quality of service went down rather quickly. In my last year living here, I just accepted that I have to learn to fix things myself because they weren't going to properly fix anything. As for the apartment itself, the work they put in is to create a good initial impression. That impression goes away quickly when you start living here. Light switches are at least 20 years old, they squeak and some show signs of rust and corrosion. The toilets barely flush and the water pressure in general is weak all around the apartment. The windows might as well be open with how much air they let through. The A/C barely worked and would struggle to cool our apartment down under 74 degrees. As far as sound, it's about what you'd expect. The only thing I will note is that any conversations/noise in the hallway are a bit louder than you'd expect. Birds and bugs love Love LOVE this community. Our building was adjacent to the forest and I had a tree in front of my balcony. Every spring & summer I dealt with birds nesting in the crevices on our balcony and had to make an active effort to deter them. Bugs find their way into the apartment all the time and usually come through the poorly insulated windows or the vents. I didn't personally have this problem but people on the top floor have talked about rodents in the ceiling. You can ask maintenance to come help but they aren't really going to do much about it. One of the bigger problems my wife and I had was smells. If someone smokes on your side of the building, you are going to have to get used to the smell coming through to your apartment. We've had cigarette smokers on the floor below us and ended up having to purchase a couple air purifiers to get the cigarette smell out of our apartment. Above us we had people who smoked weed and that smell would come through to our apartment as well. We presented the problem to management and their solution was to send letters. As you may have guessed it never got resolved. When my wife and I purchased our home I decided to initiate the move out process. They informed me someone would come inspect the apartment in 3 days (two months prior to my move out date). With a month and half left on my lease I'd say the apartment was pretty much unused and I used the remainder of the time to clean, patch holes in the wall and do my best to make sure the apartment looked as good as it did when I moved in. I turned my keys in on the final week of my lease and it was pretty unceremonious. The woman at the front desk said "ok thanks," and that was it. Fast forward a month later and I find out I was charged for the carpet, but even better I only found out because I looked for the information myself. Don't live here, it is not worth dealing with the people who run this community. And even if you can tolerate them, they'll be replaced with worse people in the next year.

Tony K. did a couple of…read morehandyman jobs like replacing toilet ring, tightening front door closing, and hot water tank replacement. Every task had to be re-fixed by a professional. Please don't pay him before the job is done. We allowed him to talk us into allowing him to replace our vinyl siding at a home remodel that we're planning on moving into. He assured us that it would be him and a guy or two. Tony said he would be there everyday. He never would show up to the hpuse except to pay the two hispanic guys. The guys ended up using white caulk and taking the clear caulk, that we purchased for the project. It was brought Tony's attention and he lied and said in a couple of hours the white caulk will turn clear. It was taken from the job site. We actually purchased the multiple tubes of clear caulk, ourselves, along with all of the needed supplies. It looks awful. We'll end up having to rip up the caulk and replace it all with clear caulk. Tony begged and begged us to pay him half and total cost everyday even though we bought all the materials amd the job was not complete. We finally paid Tony after his pity speech. The siding job is still not finished. He still refuses to finish the siding, in writing. We're still debating what next steps we'll take. Please do not trust Tony Kaelin, Anthony Kaelin, Kaelin Property Solutions (card he gave us).
